The goal of this is to help people with some of your "ah ha!" moments...

I'll start:

1.) I didn't know how to measure portions on my plate (i.e. 1 oz of meat being close to the size of my palm).

I didn't know that it was ok (even ENCOURAGED) to eat your exercise calories back, or that you didn't have to feel hungry all day long.

I didn't know that so many people were in the same (sinking) boat.
I didn't know that 13 pounds could equal 17 inches.
I didn't know that I could feel strong
I didn't know that I could do a chin up

I didn't know that I could do this. (And so can all of you!)

I didn't know that "MFP already has a deficit set into your calories, so you need to eat your exercise calories."

    That P90X wouldn't kill me.

That there are so many rockin' people on this site!

I still don't know what NSV and TOM is. :grumble:

I didn't know how HORRIBLE my eating habits were until I started logging my food.

    I didn't know:
that there are so many calories in wine :-(
that there is good fat and bad fat
what NSV meant, but now I do, they are great!
that friends can be shy of saying 'you have lost weight' incase you think they are implying you were fat!
that I would love peanut butter on apple as a snack!
    that I could run
that my friends on this site are just so lovely

    Rock on everyone!

I had absolutely no idea how many calories I was eating per day. Some of the home cooked meals we used to make that I thought were pretty healthy, turns out they are not. They are loaded with calories, carbs, fat, sodium, etc. I have become so much more aware of how many calories different ingredients contain.

Also, eating back exercise calories. Still a hard one for me to let go of previous assumptions on this one.
  • I didn't know that I would meet so many amazing friends and that I would become addicted not only to MFP but to working out, it's all good:)

    I didn't know:
how HORRIBLE I was eating... probably close to 3000 cals every day, easily! I'm at 1300 now!
how much I miss my fried foods... but that will pass!
    the benefits of green tea
    what a NSV was
there was even a site like this! LOVE IT!!

Realized what bump meant, and that 1200 calories is a challenge to stay at without feeling hungry.

That at age 60, I could sling a kettlebell around, develop defined muscles in my arms, and love every minute of it! Thanks, MFP!!
