I just got home from a doctor's visit. It was my first time seeing this lady, and she was very, very rude. :explode: :grumble: :noway:  She really hurt my feelings. I never thought I was an emotional eater, but I guess I am because I got home and ate 700 calories in one sitting. I was alright for about an hour and half, but now I swear I'm hungry again. I just ate another 120 calories, 40 more and I'll be over my goal of 1200. I can't stop eating though. Please, please, please help.

What did she say to you?
Your not the first person I have heard complain about their doctor this week.0 -
Wish I could help but I eat when I'm tired, cold, pissed off at the world, bored and, occasionally, when I'm hungry!0
-
What has helped me with my emotional eating is not buying the crap I love to eat. I've stopped buying soda, cookies, candies, cakes...ect. It helps me when I feel that urge to binge. If it's not here, I can't eat it, right? It has been a god send.0

I have trouble with emotional eating as well. You need to get out of the house if you can't stop eating. Go for a walk or a drive. Get away from food until the urge to eat passes. Good luck!0

eat an apple if you must. if you're not hungry for an apple, then youre not hungry.0

Step slowly away from the food, go to your sink, splash cold water on your face. Still hungry? Slap your face. Isn't that what they did long ago when we got hysterical?
Seriously though, emotional eating is my downfall too. Maybe try a walk, a swim, retail therapy?0 -
You've lost 136 pounds! Tell your Doc to stuff it!0
-
What happened that made you so emotional and caused you to eat? Sometimes identifiying why you're hurt can help you tackle the emotional eating.0
-
Step away from the food! Back away from the kitchen! Take a walk. This way if you still feel like eating when you get back, you'll have more calories to spare! Hope you feel better a little later!0
-
Aww what happened!
How about you walk of some of that steam!!!!0 -
Drink a glass of water. I heard that often times people confuse hunger for thirst.0
-
Go for a walk! Get out of the house where there is no temptation and have some one-on-one time with yourself to really put things in perspective.
Sometimes, we lose all control and lose sight of what's going on when we're stressed.. It's good to move yourself away from food during these times.
As for your doctor: If I was in that situation, I'd probably change to someone else. Rudeness is NOT therapeutic!
Take it easy.. One bad day won't ruin you, but it's always good to learn from things you're not happy with. Not happy about binging? Try to find ways to avoid it in the future (or lessen the damage -- obviously it's not that easy to just not do it).
Hang in there!0 -
I wish your diary was open I can give you suggestions. You are probably not getting enough fiber and protein. You can easily eat 700 calories and still not be full so don't feel bad. Before MFP I'm sure I was clearing 1200-1500 calories in just one meal of junk. Now that I'm eating healthy and drink water all day I easily get fuller on a lot less. You have done amazing losing over 100lbs!! Don't let the haters get you down! :flowerforyou:0

That sucks! Even though it might be the last thing you feel like doing, go for a walk or do some other kind of exercise, take out your frustration and hurt by doing something physical. It'll feel better afterwards and will stop you eating. Housework can also work pretty well! Hope that helps.0

eat an apple if you must. if you're not hungry for an apple, then youre not hungry.
I going to remember that one. Thanks!0 -
Try drinking water and eating as many raw vegetables as you can get your hands on. Also, if you're trying to hold back tears or anything like that, maybe a little catharsis would do you good. AND finally when I'm upset I find that vigorous exercise is really helpful. If you have a treadmill or elliptical maybe 20 minutes of cardio would do you good.0

This is all MENTAL girl Take baby steps, find something else to do. Spend more time on MFP, read posts and success stories. Go for a walk, get away from everything. I've thrown a lot of food away this week. I feel bad about it because its a waste but it was bad for my kids.
You can do it! BELIEVE in yourself :flowerforyou:0 -
Don't let her ruin everything you have been working for..... She is an idiot, what the hell is her problem.
We all have to keep negative attitudes OUT of our lives while we make changes so I suggest you do not return to her.
You have lost 136lbs....remember that, you are strong. You can handle this.0 -
eat an apple if you must. if you're not hungry for an apple, then youre not hungry.
I like this, I think I need to carry an apple around and keep repeating that to myself when I want to eat junk!0 -
well .. you're not gonna like this.
I'd say IF you know you have no self control & you're going to 'comfort' yourself with food - THROW OUT ALL THE CRAP FOOD
throw it away - donate it - get it out of your house/reach
fill your fridge & pantry with healthy stuff AND snacks that way, when you DO binge, it won't be SO bad
consult a therapist about emotional eating if it's really a problem for you however ... I have discovered that strenuous exercise is also a good way to work thru emotions AND you feel better afterwards
do you have a good friend you can talk to BEFORE you eat your feelings? if not, we are here for you - this place is FABULOUS
Don't let that mean ol' dr or one binge get you down.
Feel better!0 -
wow what a meanie idk what she said to you but try to do something to get your mind off of what she said try reading a book or watching t.v. -if its not hunger than food won't make it better0
-
agree... drink some water or go for a walk.
walking helps relieve stress and the water is good for ya anyway and can
sometimes curb hunger.0 -
No matter what she said or did it's not worth it. Not everyone has a good bedside mannor. I remember once I went to a doctor and before he came into the exam room I heard him lift my file and actually say "oh great, it's the drama queen"
Now, in my defense, I'm not a drama queen, I'm just so tired of battling weight loss/gain and riding this roller coasterI just wanted him to hear me and my frustrations.
Needless to say, I changed doctors and filed a complaint.
Emotions can disguise themselves as hunger.
Just know you deserve better and don't let a Nobody take your willpower away
From what I see, you have done an amazing job so far!!0 -
I recognise this. When I have a stressed out day or something really difficult happens I seek refuge in food. It's almost a way of trying to smother the frustration/anger/pain/hurt with food. I also know that its a vicious cycle and makes me feel worse which makes me want to eat. I'm trying to tackle it by finding other things to do to take my mind off things. The worst thing is that your doctor probably has this effect on other people. Best revenge for an old cow like that is for you to find a different kind of way to treat yourself and tell her - in your head - to get stuffed.
Tomorrow's a new day. Start afresh and pay no attention to her. Focus on doing things that will make you feel good about yourself in the long term. We both know that over eating is a short term fix and a long term stick to beat yourself with. We're both worth more.0 -
Go for a walk. Take a deep breath. Whatever she said to are just words, and they hurt, but they can't hurt you the way that self-abuse can.
You deserve to feel good and love yourself for EVERYTHING you've accomplished.
Walk out of your house. Walk away from the guilt of your binge. Walk away from regret. It's not worth it and today is only one day! Let this slip be just that. A slip.
Go for a walk and get your heart beating. Feel your legs and arms move and remember what loving yourself feels like! You can't feel good and guilty at the same time, so one's gotta go!
You're getting there one step at a time. But get out and take some steps.
You're loved here for your whole being.0 -
You have lost 136 pounds! Let it go and chalk it up to the fact that your doctor is not the right one for you and is an idiot. Could she be jealous and feels like she has to put YOU down? Whatever the reason is, I would file a complaint. and find another doc ASAP! This is NOT a productive relationship for you. You ROCK at losing weight and getting healthy! Do not let her make you go nuts!0

If you are not eating the right things you will stay hungry. I know i have the same problems. Make sure you're not eating empty carbs like whites starchy foods or white suger. try to stay with fiber, whole grains, wheat pastas, and PROTEIN. And every ONCE in awhile it's ok to indulge. Just make sure you work out that day a little harder.0
-
Do you have a friend nearby who can accompany you on a walk/jog? Tell him/her everything, really let it out, cry, yell, whatever you need to do to release your anger and hurt feelings. If there's no one nearby whose available, maybe try writing a letter to this biotch doctor. I'm the sort of person who feels they need to take action when hurt or betrayed. Just writing an email or letter is enough to let my anger out. Be careful if you decide to send it, though!0

eat an apple if you must. if you're not hungry for an apple, then youre not hungry.
Don't have an apple, but I had some no-sugar-added apple sauce cups.... And yep I just ate one of those. No help.0 -

That is what I tell my daughter when she asks for a snack. If she refuses the apple then I say I guess you aren't really hungry. Now why can't I follow that advice! lol0
