Government Contract
Okay, I am looking for a starting point and don't have a clue so I thought I would throw this out there. I'm sure some of you out there might be able to help me. I work for a small Metal Buildings Company. We usually build self storage facilities that are privately owned. Well, my boss is looking to drum up more work and she has asked me what we need to do to obtain government contracts. As I am new to this business I don't know where to begin. I have tried "googling" the topic but don't find what I need. Can anyone tell me how to get started or where to look to find out what the rules/regulations and requirements are for government contracts and how to go about obtaining them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

i can't say for sure in america (me not being in america) but i would expect your local government offices to have a procurement dept that specifically tenders for contracts. you could contact them and see if there is anything int he offing, they may also put you in contact with other companies or even if they have tenders that involve sub contracting work if your company cannot provide the scale they are looking for.0

This is actually my area of expertise...
Here are some basics..
Start with the SBA Small business Association... they can help walk you through the process. They actually have a certication process under the 8a program to help get contractors setup.
You will need to be registered with SAM.gov in order to be eligible to receive government contracts.
The government is mandated by law to do business with small businesses. It sets aside a certain number for small businesses and socioeconomic groups like ... Woman owned small business, Veteran owned small business, Minority owned, disadvantaged small business.
There are programs like 8a and hubzones that you should look into..all info can be found on SBA.GOV.
You might ask yourself "how do I know if we qualify as a small business ?" It goes by your NAICS code which you can Google and look up. Then use the NAICS and look on the SBA for the size standard to determine if you are considered a small business....you may be surprised at what you find...
You asked about regulations so I'll throw this out there...all government acquisitions are governed by the FAR "Federal Acquisition Regulation" ... its publicly available online and you can skim through it if you like but it's like reading any other law book... you'll go cross eyed after a page or two.0 -
