My wife used to live in China, and once she ordered soup, and asked the guy what was in it, his reply; woof, woof. Gross! She thought maybe he was kidding, but who knows?

Raw sea urchin, BY FAR the grossest thing I have ever experienced. It was strongly fishy and consistency of pudding. I do love oysters, escargot, frog legs, American sushi. That being said, my adventurous stomach ends at French raw seafood.

My step-dad is quite the hunter, has a consulting agency booking hunts worldwide so I have tasted all kinds of interesting wild game. Venison burgers, deer jerky and elk steaks were normal to me growing up. Favorites include moose beef, wild boar, dall sheep from Alaska, mako shark.

I try to be food adventurous and on my own have become fond of fried calamari, eel and flying fish roe (although my sushi interest is very limited), fell in love with duck with pineapple in a red curry sauce at a local Thai place, and had an exboyfriend that used to age his own beef and make his own kimchi.

My bestie brought home an exotic dinner just the other night and we shared a Bison burger, Marinated Alligator Skewers Grilled and Served with Blackberry Lemon Lime Sauce and both were fabulous! She also had a scorpion for me to eat and I wasn't thrilled about that, but I did it. Actually putting it in my mouth was the hard part. It was crispy crunchy like a wheaty cracker and didn't have much taste. Cross that off the list!

Menudo is a cows stomach. It also has either a broth or red chile base. With onions and cilantro. Used to be my favorite food when I ate bad things. I live in New Mexico and it's a staple for a lot of people here. To the person who asked....I don't know how to do the highlight reply type of thing.

I've had quite a bit of the stuff that's been listed. lol

Gator was fine. Rattlesnake was a bit disappointing, but fine. Have had most of the game animals mentioned and have cooked some as well. Octopus is good. Love Calamari.

As far as craziest... probably a peanut butter sandwich since I'm horribly allergic. I was sick for about 6 weeks. I remember wheezing "It was worth it!" to anyone who would listen.

It was so NOT worth it. lol

Cuy - roasted guinea pig - whilst I was back packing in Peru. It was foul. Not fowl as in chicken. That I could have handled...

    wildebeest (beautiful delicate flavour)

    durian

dried lungs (of what I do not know, it was a bit like eating shoe leather)

bee larvae lightly fried in chilli and ginger - absolutely divine once you get past the putting maggots in your mouth.

I guess I have to come back and say that I lived in China- there are a lot of weird things to eat there. I finally just stopped asking
  • Well - i live in Asia so i get a whole host of crazy stuff on my plate at times.

    - Balut: a fertilized duck embryo that is boiled alive and eaten in the shell.

    - turtle hotpot (which the live turtle put into the boiling water at the table)

    - bulls penis (duh !! Didnt realise what it was till someone told me later)

    - plus the usual assortment of ducks tongues / chickens feet etc....

the turtle party instantly made me sad, hahaha!

Black Pudding (dried pigs blood) up in Scotland. Pretty common there.
Haggis (sheep's 'pluck' (heart, liver and lungs), minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally simmered in the animal's stomach) again in Scotland and pretty darn tasty.
    Pigs Trotters (feet).
    Lambs Brains (good on toast).
Monkey Heart (had that in Uganda).
Kudzu Jelly (from our local Farmers Market).
