I watched Extreme Makeover weight loss edition and saw that Chris made that girl that was 445lbs do 20 drops to the floor and lift her weight back up. I decided hey i can do it also weighing 351 pounds only i did it on hard carpet. Well i realized half way through my left leg was getting sort of numb but i fought through it. I sat and watched the end of the show and now i can barely walk.. when i walk my knees are wobbling like they are gonna give out and i will fall. It's hard to bare any weight on my legs while walking without feeling like they will give out. What the heck did i do? Yikes!

You probably pinched a nerve. Too much impact for you at the time. Give it some time and it will be OK.

I don't think anyone's going to laugh at you!!! I'm not a doctor but it sounds like you've pushed your muscles to "muscle failure", a term used in the army to describe the feeling in your muscles when you just can't do ANY MORE!!! If the feeling persists then you should probably call your doctor!

I don't think anyone will laugh about this. If I were you and the pain persists for a few days or becomes unbearable I would call your doctor...Good luck...
  • Hmmm ... NOT FUNNY AT ALL.
The best advice I can give you is to call your doctor as soon as possible.
You don't want the situation to worsen, so better act on it.
    Good luck!

have you been exercising as of late?

If not, it's probably just because it was strenuous and you worked muscled you haven't in a while. Also, it could be a result of not warming up prior to doing it.

As long as you aren't numb and it's just a wobbly feeling, I'm sure you'll be fine. It might last a few days, too.

My goodness hun, you should be kinder to yourself! Yes, you probably pinched a nerve ... Next time you get the urge to watch these crazy people on tv do insane things in the name of weight loss, go take your babies for a walk. In the meantime, rest and if the pain persists, you might want to see a dr. Take care.

When I started exercising again, my first workout (30 Day shred) was HORRIBLE. My feet were falling asleep, tingling, sore, I could barely sit down to use the restroom or get back up because my legs hurt so so bad. I kept at my workouts every day and it gets better. Don't let that discourage you, it will get better. If it truly doesn't get better though after awhile, then I would call the doctor.

I watched that show as well and I wish I had did what you did. Instead I had a low-cal snack and made my hubby snuggle with me haha

I'm in agreement with the comment above ~ I did that once doing squats with weights. I pushed myself too far and could barely walk up the gym steps when I was done and then was VERY sore for the next few days ~ but it passed. Just relax and maybe do some easy stretching starting tomorrow - Ibuprofen and muscle cream will help too. Hope your feeling a little less wobbly real soon. :)

at the very least, I'd ice & rest it. take a hot soak & do some other exercise. if it's not better in a day or so, call the dr. Should ALWAYS warm up your muscles first, even just for walking or stairs
drink lots of water, eat high protein

Warmup muscles, stretch, exercise, cool down, stretch. Do these things in this order to prevent injuries. Be careful to listen to your body and only push to your limit. Know your limits. Good luck.

Sounds like muscle exhaustion. Take it easy, massage them or a warm bath if you think you need it, and see how you feel in the morning. You'll probably be fine, but if it hurts don't be afraid to go to a doctor. Note- if you do feel okay be on the lookout for DOMS (Delayed onset muscle soreness) to start up later in the day or maybe even the day after. It's a stretchy ache-not pain-that you get when you start using muscles more or in a different way. But it should be achy, not painful.

I have the same t-shirt. Sempre Fi!!! But yes, you will have lots of pain through this journey. Fight through it. It's wobbly today, wait until tomorrow. Whoooooooweeeeee! But He/She who endures, conquers! -Perseus-

It's cool, I give you credit for having guts and giving a try. Just don't do it again for a while.

It is probably a good idea to see a doctor. I really do not like that show because they do dangerous exercises for people who carry excessive weight. I remember one episode where they had someone over 300 lbs jumping on and off and box and I wanted to throw something at the television. Plyometric exercises are hard on the joints when you first start to do them because proper technique takes practice regardless of whether a professional is in the room.

If you have any swelling and you have not iced it already you should apply heat (ice is only immediately following an injury) to the affected areas and do some gentle stretching. If you feel any sharp pains stop immediately. There are several things that could be wrong, the most minor of which is muscle strain. If you didn't feel any sharp pains before the numbness it isn't likely that you tore anything. It's also possible that you strained something in your knee.

It's impossible to know without a physical examination so if it is still a problem in the morning I suggest visiting your doctor.

My leg isn't as bad as last night but definitely still isn't the same.... still feels like i could fall with putting weight on my leg especially the left one. I am also now having some tingling/numbness sensation from the leg down to the feet i think i definitely pinched a nerve or something. Thanks everyone for the opinions/thoughts.

Yup, probably a pinched nerve in your lower back. Give a day or two and see if it improves, unless you really are having a hard time getting around, then you may want to see a MD sooner. Most of the time this gets better in a day or two.

It's easy to say "well she's 445lb, so I can do it, too." She's doing it with a doctor around, you're not. Be careful and listen to your body, it doesn't lie to you!

I agree... It could be something more severe like a slipped disc so don't wait too long but another day or two probably won't hurt as long as you're not getting worse! Hopefully you'll keep feeling better as the week passes.

A bit off topic, but I noticed this was posted before it aired on tv for me. Is it a timezone difference, or have I been watching it on the wrong station (like how they air Dr. Phil at different times on different stations).

I'm only laughing because my sister and I did the same thing today on the mat at the gym after our workouts.... We were like, oh if she can do it at over 400 pounds we can do it.. So it could just as easily been me instead of you who hurt myself copying what I see on TV!

I have a tendency to over-do-it. I remember the first time I did the biggest loser workout I did it as hard as I could and did the whole thing... I was feeling great until that night when I couldn't even get up off a chair without my husband pulling me up.... then for the next week, I couldn't do anything without extreme muscle pain.. I had really damaged my muscles and I had to wait for them to heal before working out again.

I hope it's just your muscles which will heal with time and not something more serious. let us know how it goes.
