Add me to the breast list... LOL!!!!

My husband wants to get a real tree. I remember when I was very little we had a real tree. I remember my mom forgot to water it and the needles started to fall off (before x-mas). I also remember going to K-mart with my dad and buying my mom a fake one for the next year (I finally tossed the old fake tree three years ago. (It looked pretty mangy after 25 plus years.) My hubby had a nice pre-lit one.

He always had the tradition when he was growing up of going with his dad to pick out a real one, chop it down, tie it to the roof of the car and pray it didn't fall off before they got home. Then they would put on x-mas music and trim and decorate the tree together as a family.

I am not ready for a real tree yet. I think the kids need to be a bit older first. I can't wait to try out his tradition and see how well it fits our family... I would like to have the littlest on be at least 3 if not 4 before we go au natural.

We put on the movie "White Christmas" while we decorate. We sing along with the songs and I recite certain parts word for word.... It is pretty funny.

I have never, and will never, have an artificial tree. I love that I can still find Christmas tree needles in the cracks at the wall in my living room. I love the smell. I love hunting for the perfect tree. I love dragging it home and decorating it. I love taking it down. I love seeing all the dead Christmas trees in the ditches, waiting for the garbage collectors to pick them up.

OMGosh, that is EXACTLY what we do
I've done it since I was a kid, but I've kept it up since my kid was born. We help her put on ornaments. She is dazzled by the lights and loves the ornaments. I can't imagine Christmas without all that jazz.

we're pretty close-- it's usually " It's a Wonderful Life," though-- we don't have White Christmas.

Cookies-- hot cocoa-- singing-- usually somebody yelling 'cause somebody stepped on a string of lights, but as long as Mommy doesn't get tense due to the chaos, which is a "tradition" in and of itself that she has finally conquered-- :embarassed: -- it is a lovely time.
  • We do a real tree...although after last year I am slightly tempted to get a fake one. Something went wrong with the whole drilled in the tree for the stand and it almost fell over 2 weeks before Christmas. I had to go beg for wood where they were building the newest houses in my development to prop the tree back up! It was crooked the rest of the season which just made me crazy!
That being said, I still want a real tree. I will not give up the tradition of untangling the lights, cursing at the lights, stringing them on the tree, and cursing at them again as they get tangled back up! I LOVE going out in the cold and finding the perfect tree, and I wouldn't trade that smell for anything in the world.

Sounds great, Marla!! We play Christmas songs while decorating, too. I'm going to have to pass on the cookies this year but I can squeeze in a sugar free hot cocoa for 25 calories!
  • Right now it is just me and bf in our place, so we didn't do a tree last year and probably won't do one this year either....

but I gotta say I'm a firm believer in the real ones. It is a lot more fun to go through all the trouble! It is tradition to watch the men in the family suffer trying to get the tree home!

    Only Real!

Maybe it's a product of where I live (Pac NW) but ...... I can't imagine having a fake tree. I look so forward to the adventure every year. driving up the mountain, hiking through the snow looking for the perfect (sad, charlie brown ) tree. Drinking wine and eating pears and brie up in the snow while we look. mmmmmm!

    I can't wait!

Our tree is always ugly, with some hideous bare patch or crooked tilt. But once the lights and decorations are on it... you dont' notice so much. And it feels more "real" to me that way.

This reminds me of my first Christmas living with my dad and stepmom...it was a big deal because I'd always wanted to move in with them but had to wait until I was old enough to decide custody.

    Anywho...

I BEGGED my dad to get a live tree because we'd always used this 30 year old plastic one at my mom's, and he finally gave in at the last minute. So we go to the tree yard and there's all of three trees left...one is a Charlie Brown thing with 3 branches, one is 18 feet tall, and the third...it was perfect. Pine-cone shape, full branches, nice and green.....well, on one side anyway. The other side was totally flat. It was also about 8 feet in diameter, and we knew it would be to big for the living room, but after more incessant begging we took it home. We faced the flat side away from the living room, and the other side fluffed out across the room so far it might as well have been sitting on the couch. We only had enough decorations for one side too. I loved that Christmas!

My most memorable christmas tree was in my 11th year.

My mom was very very ill, she was worried about feeding my brother and I, the last thing on her mind was a tree. A neighbor lady said she felt bad and told my mom she would bring us a tree. This is the woman who talked trash about my mom to all the other neighbors. Mom told her no thank you...but.....

Well this lady comes walking down the street for all to see, braggin on how she is helping the poor family with no money. I am not talking about a lovely green thing with lights.....It was silver with one of those lights that rotated....blue, then green, then red, then yellow I think. It was the grossest, funniest thing I have ever seen in my entire life.

My mom laughed and laughed and said she always knew this lady didnt like her!!!

Well, the next day some folks from a nearby church showed up with groceries, a big ham and presents for all.

I can still hear my mom laughing. We sat in front of that ugly tree eating ham and hot food for the first time in months.

Red, Green, Blue, Silver....Red, Green, Blue, Silver.

I may just buy one just like it this year!!

I have only ever had a fake tree. My husband is the same way, thank God, so we're going fake tree again this year!

Seems like way too much of a hassle.

Ezzie and I have found that a Frazier Fir is just about the bestest real tree out there! the needles don't drop very much, it doesn't need tons of water, the limbs support big ornaments, and it smells wonderful the entire time! We usually decorate with Christmas Carols playing, wearing our Santa Hats, and singing along too!

I always thought I'd caught a cold at Christmas until we got a fake tree and realized it was allergies.

I love my fake tree. I just pluck off the ornaments and stick it in a big plastic bag in the attic with the lights still on it for storage So easy!!
