HOW DO YOU EXERCISE WHEN IT GETS COLD?

It's possible I may have to move from sunny Florida back to New Jersey. The last time I lived there I wasn't really exercising so I never thought about it. Now, I'm used to exercising year round outdoors. Other than the gym, what do you guys do to get enough exercise in the winter? Especially when gyms usually only allow 30 minute cardio sessions on the machines.

Welcome!

Thankfully, my main form of exercise is usually done indoors. I suppose one could skate on a frozen pond or lake, but those are in short supply here in the "south." I just head to the indoor rink.

I break out my cold weather exercise clothes. Nike makes some great thick dri-fit pants. I usually dress in layers if it is really cold.

Unless I'm running or riding a bike, all of my exercise is done at home, indoors, with the workout DVD of my choice. There's a million of them, so you can definitely find a few to suit you.

If you have cable, try ExerciseTV on-demand. Lots of free workout videos that you can do at home. They have new ones all the time so you won't get bored.

i dont know about you but I live in Illinois and we have very cold winters and I just bundle up and brave the cold and do my runs outside....When you have someone to do it with that holds you accountable that makes it easier. and the time also goes by much faster. Maybe you can get a friend and you both can do a walk or run outside.

I live in Minnesota so in the winter I usually go to the nearby gym, or do a bunch of my exercise dvd's at home. you can also add in little things like taking the stairs at work or school and do push ups and situps on a daily basis until you feel up to coming out of hibernation.

There are exercise DVDs for all tastes and fitness levels.

Netflix, Hulu.com. ExerciseTV.com (or comcast cable) are inexpensive (or in some cases free).

When I got sick of my treadmill - I started using "Walk at Home" DVDs (these can be challenging for walkers ,... not runners)

Find something you enjoy doing. Look at collagevideo.com for view clips & reviews (you can also see if a DVD requires equipment).
