I was going to post something like this the other day...but I obviously didn't.

Built to Spill (my favorite band ever)
    Arcade Fire
    Elbow
Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses
    Avett Brothers
    Josh Ritter
    Dispatch

Oh, I could go on and on. Check out this song though. Pure awesomeness.

Thanks for posting that link! Nevery heard of Built to Spill, but I dig em... You'd probably like pinback (if you don't already)
    http://youtu.be/59cQWw9ctOA

But seriously check out Avi Buffalo~ http://youtu.be/evu_MqAZpC0 - My fav line " you are tiny and your lips are like little pieces of bacon" haha~ of course it has to do with food!

I love Pinback. Built to Spill is a lot like Modest Mouse sometimes, but I think they are a lot more listenable. I also need to add Badly Drawn Boy, Lucero, Alexi Murdoch, Damien Rice, Broken Bells, Portugal the Man...

Haha my bf likes Lucero a lot so we got to see them at the Troubadour (sp?) which was cool since I'd never been there. They were playing with Drag the River (the beau's uber fav) Def. a fan of Broken Bells and Noah and the whale (that someone posted earlier). Yay so many fun bands to check out! See if this tickles your fancy http://youtu.be/fnTacC1qUmE.

Has anyone heard of The Shivers? I just found them last night and I AM IN LOVEEEE.
Also, you all should check out:

    www.voiceproject.org

It is a website that a bunch of awesome artists/bands do covers of songs by other awesome artists/bands i.e. Brett Dennen covering Citizen Cope, Deer Tick covering The Shivers, etc.

It's actually where I found out about The Shivers. Super great! :)

    Also my favourites;

Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Modest Mouse, Silversun Pickups and Yo La Tengo ^_^

Yo La Tengo! Haven't listened to them in a while! Saw them at the 40 Watt years back right when Electro-Pura came out. Butterglory was another favorite along that same time period....saw them at the Atomic Club at Athens.

My favorite is 100 Monkeys, they are very unique and crazy on stage when they do shows. Bleeding Horse Express, is another awesome band, from Canada. Not a Planet, is a local Kansas city band, I love them!

I really just love music! It don't matter who they are or how popular they are. Yesterday, at my local mall, some high school punks where walking around with a guitar saying, "play ya a song for a $1!" So after I see others rolling their eyes at them like "As if, Whatever...phift" I stepped up and gave them a dollar and listened, It was great fun, He played pretty well even :-)

YOu definitely are my people! I saw Superchunk three times...they put on a great show! I was also lucky enough to be in Athens during the Elephant 6 days and saw Neutral Milk, Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power, and Apples in Stereo at the 40 Watt a few times. A NMH/OTC concert was a spectacle to behold!!!

Oh how I loved Bright Eyes, back in the day...and Dashboard Confessional. Those 2 bands take me back to a verrrry special place in time. Speaking of, I need to download some of that so I can go back there anytime I am feeling nostalgic...

Great list, and I second the workout playlist request. Every time I see a workout playlist thread on here it's always full of metal responses, or stuff I really am not interested in. I had an excellent indie workout playlist a few years ago, but in between then and now my iTunes got wiped and I lost all my playlists. Ugh.

I never know what qualifies as indie or not, but here are some not-pop, rap, or rock-music bands & singers that I like:

    Regina Spektor

    Neutral Milk Hotel

Gotye (Does this count? I don't care.)

    Of Monsters & Men

    Radiohead

    Tom Waits

    Interpol

    The Kills

    Yeah Yeah Yeahs

    Young the Giant

    Snow Patrol

    Death Cab for Cutie

    The Black Keys

    Phoenix

    Interpol

    Radiohead

    Spoon

    The Decemberists

    Deftones

Dashboard Confessional (Judge me if you will)

The list goes on and then drifts into random places (class rock, punk, hip hop, etc) ... but that's the indie/broody/ folksie side of it

Also Jimmy Eat World... but going into hipster mode .... only their first two albums.... and mostly just the song "Ten"

not sure that counts as indie.. I just wanted to share

Gotye's a weird one to class. I consider him indie. Though his first single from his latest album is destroying the charts worldwide, right? SO WEIRD. And great!
