As a person that is allergic to glutens, I will tell you that what happens immediately following contamination certainly ISN'T hilarious. In fact, every glutening leads us closer to awful surgeries and cancers. So, try to remember that when you're yuckin' it up at your friend's expense.

    Sensitive about your allergy much?

I'm hearing Peter Griffin's voice, saying "You know what really grinds my gears....? Those really big signature blocks.... They're WAY too big...."

    Perfect!

Considering how serious it sounds, I would be too.

Yeah. I am. There are serious consequences attached to these kinds of allergies, and most people just don't understand.

    I have an eating disorder.
Trust me, I empathize no one understanding.

I don't think she was referring to the fact her friend could have serious health complications. I think she was referring to the terminology used. :]

Edit: my best friend is severely allergic to walnuts. Sometimes she'll say or do something referring to that that'll make me laugh. She knows I'm not making light of her allergy, she also knows I'm a giggly person by nature & she likes making me laugh. She also deals with things in way of laughter. I think you took that differently than she meant it.

    pwning??

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pwn

    Pwn
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For other uses, see PWN (disambiguation).

"Powned" redirects here. For the Dutch public broadcaster see PowNed.

    Page semi-protected

Pwn is a leetspeak slang term derived from the verb own,[1][2][3] as meaning to appropriate or to conquer to gain ownership. The term implies domination or humiliation of a rival,[4] used primarily in the Internet-based video game culture to taunt an opponent who has just been soundly defeated (e.g., "You just got pwned!").[5] It was popular among Counter-Strike gamers before spreading through the more general Internet world.[6] The past tense and past participle, pwned, may also be spelled pwnd (sometimes with an apostrophe before the d), pwnt, or powned.[citation needed]

In hacker jargon, pwn means to compromise or control, specifically another computer (server or PC), web site, gateway device, or application. It is synonymous with one of the definitions of hacking or cracking. The Pwnie Awards are awarded by a group of security researchers.[4]

Popularity of the term among teenagers rose in the mid-2000s, with the spread from the Internet written form to use in spoken language.[7]
    Etymology

The word pwn most likely came about as a common typo of the word "own" because the "p" and "o" keys are adjacent on a standard English keyboard.[7][8] A long debate on Urban Dictionary, however, suggests many derivations including "pawned" (a chess term for when a player is put in check by a pawn) and "permanently owned," an escalation of the term "owned."[9]
    Pronunciations

Because pwn is primarily used in written form, it has no single generally accepted pronunciation: renditions include /ˈoʊn/ ohn, /ˈpoʊn/ pohn, /pəʔˈoʊn/ pə'-ohn, /ˈpɔːn/ pawn, and /piːˈoʊn/ pee-ohn. Originally, pwn and its variants were pronounced /ˈoʊn/) in the same way as the verb own, the tail of the p being "silent". A notable usage of this pronunciation can be seen in the Internet distributed series Pure Pwnage (pronounced "pure ownage" /ˈpjʊər ˈoʊnɨdʒ/).[10]

Where speakers vocalize the p, pronunciations include pwen, "pwin", pawn, "pone", pun[11] and pwone.[12]

I agree. Huge signatures (and animated images) are obnoxious. Basically a lot of people are obnoxious.

I'd love to be able to "ban" other users so that I never have to see anything from them again. Those with huge signatures, those with bad attitudes, etc. Frankly that way people could also choose to ban me. I'm all for it.

LOL - first world problems :-)
Well, I suspect that the whole thread was "demi-troll" but the OP has posted…frequently.

To address your comment. I couldn't agree more. I'm a thankful American. Thankful that I live in the US 'cause I didn't move here 'til I was 24 years old and, on an almost daily basis, I am in awe of this country. I've traveled across it many times, raised a weapon to defend it, and enjoyed the fruits of the labor and genius of its Founders and defenders.

As much as the nation, as an entity, amazes me, the pettiness of some of its people, too, amazes me. Even though I make a good living, I am in awe of people who spend their money on Starbucks and, this will get a smile, bottled water. And complaining about someone's signature block? Well, I guess that some folks are fortunate that their lives are so dress right dress that they can take exception to a "large signature block".

    A site that I appreciate - http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/

An the expression that comes to mind is from a man who lived in Romania under Nicolae Ceaușescu. He said, paraphrasing badly, that having lived in Romania and suffering under a brutal dictatorship, he had very little compassion for the fears and complaints of people who had lived in the Free World.

We are on this site because our inability to control our appetite has lead us to unhealthy or deadly excess. Now that we've escaped slow suicide, we turn our attention to…signature blocks.

I have to agree that it is disheartening to view a topic that has just been created and it'a already at 7 pages not because of the comments being posted but because the pages are full of people's sigs. Now I know mine is toward the medium size and I was thinking about resizing my green monkeys banner. I have been to countless forums where we had a sig limit and if someone went over the limit they were given 3 warnings and then banned. However, if it's not in the rules then people can have as big of a sig as they want. I love a lot of people's sigs that are huge, but things can always been resized. Just my two cents :)

  • I don't have a problem with large blocks... Don't you have to scroll JUST as much when people quote multiple things? It's not a big deal haha just leave the thread if you don't want to see it!

Solution: Download the Web Developer Add-On for Firefox, and go to Web Developer > Images > Disable Images > External Site Images. This will block any images off-site (including ads!) which pretty much just leaves the trackers!

    block.png

(And yes, I do realize the irony of posting a large image to explain how to block large images! ;P)

:blushing: Thank you, "Strong is the new skinny" is my mantra.
And I was posting on another thread and the OP had a size-goal instead of a weight goal. She inspired me to change the way I look at weight loss! I feel less pressure to maintain a certain weight than I do a certain dress/pants size.
