I call my oldest daughter! We just perk each other up. Of my 4 kids, she's the most like me and we have always had an extra bond. I love them all equally, don't get me wrong.0

I've struggled off and on with depression or years now... I used to turn to food, but since starting MFP I'm keep close tabs on my calorie intake. Now I turn to long walks at the park and other work outs, cleaning when I'm really pissed and can't sit still, hard core music and always my bff when I'm really in a bad slump. I still struggle and some days are harder than others. But I find the more I work out the longer I can keep it at bay.0

Find some people to be around. I'm less likely to binge with company, and my mood is likely to improve.0

Correct people's basic spelling errors0

Feeling depressed is the worst. Here are some ideas to help:
Talk to someone about your feelings.
Help someone else by volunteering.
Have lunch or coffee with a friend.
Go with someone to the movies or for coffee.
Call or email an old friend.
Go for a walk with a workout buddy (both the sun and the exercise help... as well as the company)
Schedule a weekly dinner date (gotta have something to look forward to)
Meet new people by taking an exercise class or joining a club.
Each a square of dark chocolate each day to help prevent it.0 -
Bubble bath, book, and wine....0

with my daily fitness routine and healthy eating I was able to kick my depression meds to the curb almost a year & a half ago. No need for them anymore. amazing how my daily dose of endorphins works as a mood regulator :happy:0

KICK THE CAT. Just kidding, I don't even own a cat...lol. But seriously, I've found that by helping someone else :flowerforyou: often times helps me out of my funk. Or after I've had my little pity party  that nobody wants to attend. I put on some nice music, burn incense, ran a bath, open a bottle of wine, and try to think about reasons for me not to be depressed. This doesn't always work and depending on the reasons for my depression, I go out and by myself something ridiculously outrageous! Maybe contact a few real friends, go bowling, go to the casino, dancing or rent a horror flick. One of those movies that messes with your mind, a psychological thriller... :noway: but not blood and guts...or a comedy. That will take my mind off of things for a bit watching somebody else battle their way out of a dilemma. Finally if none of the above works...make wild passionate love...let it be the wild kingdom up in there; hey it's a good workout! Hope you start feeling better. :flowerforyou:0

I stop being sad and start being awesome instead.
Haha..."How I Met Your Mother" fan huh? Go Barney!0 -
A very good friend told me about the Law Of Attraction....
Now I don't believe in all of it but it's certainly helped me through a depression stage and I gave used it purely as a base for any negative thoughts and a building block for my self esteem and confidence....
Google.....The Secret...... Slot of people will say it's a load if rubbish....
Seriously I don't believe in all of it BUT it truly has helped as a base line... The rest had been good old chats with my friends and being, feeling and acting positive even when things have gone wrong...
I spent 12 hrs just sobbing a good few nights ago for various reasons but the next day I intended to have a good day... I put a message in MFP saying I was in a cool mood and the rest if the day went great! Even when I could feel my panda eyes for most if that day from the previous night..
Basically.... Turn those down feelings....into positive ones!
Put doneusic on and relax.... New day tomorrow!0 -
There is a world of difference between being depressed and feeling a bit down. Really. Until you have had depression, you can't conceive of it.
So. When I am feeling a bit down I do exercise, go shopping, go out with friends and have a drink etc.
When I am depressed, when I have been depressed (I am not now, I was post-natally), I go and get professional help and medication.0 -
Eat.... don't do it0

Only recently cone out of the other side of it....
I've also used the Secret to help as well....0 -

I went through Post Traumatic Stress (which is basically a mixture of depression, anxiety and stress).
There is a huge difference between being depressed and just feeling down. I was on anti-depressants and having counselling sessions. I'm not going into the dark thoughts that went through my head during that period on this thread.
If you're just feeling down, do something fun.
If you really do have depression, speak to a professional (and do it soon).0 -
Bong hits and porn, totally. :happy:0

Well I have felt like this for the past 12 hours and I have been feeling sick and crying curled up in a ball. But I feel better now.0

Drive and sing along to the most angry metal music I can find..
I like The Prodigy.0 -
Ideally, the answer would be work out...run...exercise. But honestly, I love to grab the car keys and just drive. No destination...no plan-Just Drive! Find a nice scenic road and turn up the radio and enjoy the time alone.
Later, when my mood is better, I hit the gym and focus on the work out.
Hope this helps!0
