why did you pick your goal weight

Just curious to see why people picked there goal weight.
For me it was to get out of the obese zone. I've been considered obese most of my life and just want to get to the overweight zone.

I'm with you! I just want to be considered healthy again. Not morbidly obese, not obese, not even overweight.
I have to admit, the clothes that are my size aren't the most flattering wither ... why do they think larger girls want to dress frumpy?? Drives me crazy!!0 -
I picked mine because it's the weight that I've been most of my adult up until about 5 years ago.0

Right now, I'm trying to get down to my pre-pregnancy weight. We'll see from there.0

For me it's to get into a level of high fitness and to slim down my childbearing hips (thanks mom).0

same reason here. I do hope to eventually get out of overweight and into normal (the very top of normal is about the best I figure I could hope for), but I plan on doing that much more slowly so I have plenty of time to get used to it.0

I picked mine because it was what I weighed when I got married, before babies !!!0

me too0 -
I picked mine as I spent the vast majority of my teens-early twenties fluctuating between 133/140lbs. I never felt small or fat or self concious as my weight fluctated up and down that 1/2 stone bar. I've been the same height since I was 13 so I thought that would be a good target.0

The BMI of my goal weight is the magic 22.0

I have done these little mini goals for the past 3 years. It better to make mini goals (10-15lbs bursts) at a time so the journey is shorter..Easier to look at 10-15 than 50-100 yea know what I mean?? Set mini goals...its much more tolerable..0

My first mini goal is to get out of the Obese zone and my second mini goal is to get out of the overweight zone. My big goal is 150lbs this is what I weighed when I got married and pregnant. I felt pretty good and I was pretty solid. When I make it there I may try to lose another 20lbs. But who knows... I'm not 18 anymore :-)0

OK, so no laughing.
I picked my goal weight of 265 because that is the top weight for an MMA heavyweight.
Being in an MMA fight is on my bucket list!0 -
I border on obese, even tho I'm a size 12. the WII tells me that I should weigh 129. I know my body and how I would look if I weighed that and it would be sickly. So I picked around 140. I feel like I could carry that well and not look awful, besides, my hubby doesn't like super thin women.0

I have a twin sister who looks fabulous at my goal weight. It's very motivating to have a 3-dimensional mirror showing you what you COULD look like! It also really sucks being the "chubby one".0

What they THINK is that we'll buy "anything"! IDIOTS!! hahaha.. I would just refuse to buy new clothes.. But now my old clothes are getting big and falling off, and yet i'm still holding off until I can find clothes that I really like.0 -

Ditto. Picked the weight I was for most of my life up until I starting getting close to 30 yrs old. Basically the weight I was in my early 20's.0

I picked my goal (140) because it's in the upper part of my healthy weight range & it is what I weighed before I got pregnant 7yrs (yikes) ago.0

That what I used to be my weight last year and years before it and I feel most happy in it. Plus I am working on lean muscles. Also you can check your frame size, because sometimes for people with large frame or small frame BMI gives wrong idea. There are plenty calculators online ( I used wrist , elbow + hip/stomach ratio and also your height one to find out I have rather small to extra small frame). My mom is the same height is me, but she has large frame! my sis has rather medium one, and he is even shorter then me ) we all weight differently!!0

I picked my goal based on what I weighed when I was in a wedding 6 or 7 years ago. There are lots of pictures so it's well documented and I looked and felt pretty good at the time. That being said, my goal still has me 20 lbs overweight so we'll see once I get there.0

My goal weight is the upper end of a healthy BMI for someone of my height and build.0

Mine is the weight I was in my late teens (I'm 22 so not that long ago) when I was a size 6. I went on birth control at 19 and packed on the pounds... I know some studies suggest there's no connection between hormonal birth control and weight gain, but my experience was that I skyrocketed from a 6 to a 12-14 without a significant change in eating habits.
My goal is a few pounds above what the BMI says would be healthy for me, but I don't think BMI is particularly reliable or meaningful.0 -
It's what I weighed 10 years ago and I thought I was over weight then. I want to get out of the obese section on BMI0
-
I picked mine because it seemed easy enough  I know skinny girls at my height with similar frames... They weigh 100-110lbs. They are thin but have very little muscle. So I figured I'd just add 15-20lbs to their weight = 126lbs.
Really, though, I don't focus on my goal weight; I know it's just a number at the end of the day. All I know is I want to be healthy, strong, and super toned all over.0 -
I picked mine, because that's where I was the happiest. I've gone below my goal weight before, and it just didn't look healthy on me, but what I've learned is that EVERY body is different. It totally trips me out how different women weighing in at the same weight CAN look so different! It's pretty amazing!0

I actually picked a goal weight based on getting out of the "overweight" category, but I have revised it based on a weight my doctor gave me. I had never discussed my goal weight with her when I started, but when I got closer, she asked me and then she did some calculations....9 more pounds. After 130 down, it is getting more and more difficult!0

My original goal weight was based on what I thought I could attain & maintain. As I got closer & realized I was feeling & looking better I decided to drop a little more to a healthier range (and have a buffer zone). And then I realized something else. I've lost 2" in my height (due to back damage/car accidents) and was no longer a 5'8" frame, meaning my "normal" weight was still overweight & would continue to add extra pressure where I least needed it causing my neck, back & hips to get thrown out of alignment along with my joints still aching. I changed my weight to what I feel will be more comfortable while still attainable & maintainable based on my current height: 5'6". And since I dropped below my original 150 mark goal I have not had my back or hips go out of alignment, my arthritis has improved & my joints don't "click & crack" as much. I focus more on strength, toning & firming my muscles & core which has got me better results than I had ever dreamed at my age!
I know this is a little more complex than your actual question: for me this was not a "lose weight look great" tactic, more a "lose weight & stop jeopardizing my health, life & well being". In case anyone is wondering, I refused surgery & pain killers & discovered that exercise & being healthy was a better option. (If I had of done surgery there was no guarantee of long-term benefits since I already had disk degeneration and anything they did would possibly have to be redone and may have left me in worse condition that I was to start with)0 -
my goal is "about" 10.5 stone , lowest ever been is 11 stone , and still needed to loose a bit then , so i will hit the 10.5 mark and play it by ear then0

I agree with most everyone about getting out of the Obese category on the BMI. I didn't realize it at the time but the weight I picked was the same weight I was when I was 12 years old.... based on my height.0
