Had to change my final goal for my mental health while I go through yet ANOTHER diet change for this stupid depression. BUT, at least it went down a tad bit this time (-0.6 lb). The past few days I've actually been feeling pretty good about my body, so I was afraid to step on the scale for fear that it was going to depress me. But I'll take it.

Kids come home tomorrow and I am SOOOOO excited. 12 days without them has been rough. Might be part of the reason for the weight gain and silly eating. TIme to start training with my girl for our 5K.

Cathy - even an older picture is very inspiring. You look great there and it should inspire you because you know you CAN do this and are on the right track. Keep it going!

    morning...

darn scale was up a pound this morning...i really need to wean myself off daily scale weighing. i know it's my muscle holding water from my first outside run yesterday. i didn't drink enough water.

    zumba tonight, no running today.

    have a great day

I usually put mine at the back of the closet, or even out of the bathroom during the week so I am not tempted.

just did my weeding in the front yard. so nice to have cooler weather again. spent 2 hours, don't know what the calorie burn is on that. so will just keep it extra.

chris....glad to see you. this isn't a swimming challenge, it's just the name that was picked. we change the name every six weeks as to what is going on in that six weeks. since this one is the last of summer we choose swimming. you are more than welcome to stay. next challege we will have two lists. one for weight and one for measurments. so you can do either or. we are glad you are here.

off to rest and drink my second bottle of water. than get more.

So when I stopped eating wheat products the end of June to help with my depression, I thought surely I would lose weight. No cakes, no cookies, no breads. Then gained 5 lb. Not water either. Real fat weight, making all the new clothes I had bought pretty tight.

So then I did more research for not only my depression, but these recurrent cysts on my ovaries, and found that the protein in milk could be a contributing factor, so I decided to try and two week trial of cutting that out too (apparently it's an actual diet I didn't know about - Paleo "caveman diet") NOW surely I would lose weight, taking out the ice cream, the yogurt, and all that cheese.

So I did a search on this site for anyone else who had to stop these foods for medical reasons, and although they gave GREAT suggestions, most of them were not steadily losing weight. How is that possible!?!

Then I went into Whole Foods and discovered the reason. Almost their whole store is focused on "raw" food (vegan), gluten-free/dairy-free. I'm talking about pies, cakes, macaroons, breads. You name it, they have made it.

So the trick is in cutting these out AND losing weight, is not to use the substitutions. As I was explaining this to my husband (who by the way said he would try the no wheat/no dairy for two weeks, and has actually done 3 whole days), he said "calories in, calories out". Oh yeah. Duh.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my little epiphany.

lula....sounds like you might be over thinking things. i agree with hubby on this one. calorie in calorie out. i get asked at zumba almost every time..."how long you been doing this? how much weight have you lost." my response is every time....."if i stop shoveling in the crap in my mouth it would probably be great, it takes two, hand in hand." then they don't know what to say about that. just cause you go to a gym or take a class doesn't mean you are eating right. shanell has a friend who is a personal trainer, yet her girls and hubby are over weight. not just by a little. she doesn't cook, only processed foods and eats out. since she trains she maintains her weight. she's not real thin either. it burns off the crap she's eating. i strongly agree it's a marriage that has to work, exercise and eating right. eating right is really simple. sorry to go one. you have brought up a good topic. maybe we could include that next challenge to. every week bring up a topic to discuss for the week.

already did my c25k outside again. got back at 7:25. so glad it's already done now. i woke this morning with my butt cheeks really sore....stop laughing....now they are really sore after running. just don't want them to jiggle anymore.

nothing planned for today. may go the bread store. right now i need breakfast and a shower.

    have a great day.

Yay! Cathy, good job on the running!

Lulu, I have been working out 5 to 6 days a week now for about 4 to 5 weeks. Not a pound has shed from this body. It is hard. It is unmotivating. I hear ya. GGAAAAAHHHHH! But there must be something I am doing food wise that has got me locked in. I am not sure why my body loves 203 pounds so much.

I went back and found where I measured and wrote it down. I had lost it. I also measured and do you know that they are the exact same as 5 weeks ago:sad:

I feel so much better working out but I tell you what....this no change crap and gaining and losing the same 3 pounds over and over is for the birds. Meeting with the trainer tonight. Gonna have to step it up BIG TIME!

Hey Sixers. The wedding is in 2 days. I don't like the way I look or feel (sucks) - but I know I can change that, and I will... it just wont take 2 days... Going to see the doc soon, I think the stress from work is a real factor... but I think there may be something else (thyroid... or some allergy / intolerence) that is making me feel crappy... oh well.

Cathy - NICE work w/ the zumba and running...

Amy - YOU CAN DO THIS!

Lula - Just try to focus on calories and what makes you feel good... we need to make our own rules sometimes :) Keep it up!

Well, I am off for the weekend, so we will see what the scale brings on tuesday... it was up this morning... but i know it is water. Keep it up ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So how's this for a personal challenge. My kids came home from a 12 day trip in Alaska with their other father. So I had three siblings, their closest friends over to bake bacon/peanut butter cupcakes. Get this, you actually use 1/4 cup of bacon grease and 1/4 of butter, plus FIVE cups of PB. Calories for one is like 750 with topping. Anyway, I'm sitting there making it with the girls and guy with flour, cream cheese, milk all in front of me. The only thing I could eat would be the bacon and PB. So I planned ahead, bought two bags of grapes, froze them, and started munching. I of course had to do little taste testings here and there to decide on more PB or not, but all in all, I did pretty good. The whole reason this recipe even exists in my house is because bacon and PB are my absolute favorite foods. I did snatch half a piece of bacon and probably licked a spoon or two of PB. But afterward, I felt pretty good about my success. I have found that since letting go of the "weight loss" idea for now and just maintaining, I'm actually eating reasonable. For some reason, seeing on my diary screen that I can eat 1690 calories, and not 1200 or even 1400, I haven't gone over once, and many days are shy by 100. When it was 1200 to 1400, I would go over constantly, even with exercise calories. Now, I find that I can't even eat all my exercise calories, some days not even touching them. I believe it truly is a mental game sometimes that we have to play with ourselves to make this work. 90% will get you far.

Cathy - I like your words of encouragement. You are so right.

MLEme - Have a great time at the wedding! And also, sometimes doctors can't find anything conclusive, especially on "intolerances", so doing your own process of elimination is what you are left with.

amy_36 - Keep it going. Your body is probably just seeing how much perseverance you have and endurance. Eventually you will win the fight and your body will have to give in.

My baby boy came home sick. Hasn't really eaten for 5 days, and is underweight to start, so I am getting worried. But if I don't see improvement this morning, to the doctor he will go. Here is my rant: He was sick, throwing up in Alaska. He is a real trooper when sick, never complains. So they kept him in the camper and that was it. His step-mother gets sick, and immediately she runs to a Patient First. Um, hello!?! So my son comes home looking like death warmed over with a fever and not eating a single bite. Of course, this is also the same family that had him walking around with a broken finger for two days before I finally got him and took him to the emergency room and got it casted. GGGGGRRRRRHHHHHH!!!!!

Have a great day ladies. My babies are home, so I am a happy lady all in all.

lula.....glad your babies are home safe and sound.
    em....have a great weekend wedding.
kristen...are you running in this cooler weather?
amy... doing a great job on that c25k
    clair...how are you.
pregnant mommies...how are the sixer babies and you doing?
everyone else...hope you are all doing great.

AFM: well the scale is now up 2 more pounds. don't know whats going one. under calories. been doing some different exercising. i know in my mind that's why. just so frustrating. anyway, i am taking today off. my butt cheeks still hurt. i bent over to pick up a dog bone last night, and DH says" yes i see why they hurt. there is a huge muscle just under your butt cheek". i had on jammie shorts. i sure can't wait until the scale just drops when these muscle decide to release the water.

anyway, off to do some surfing and head out for some dinking around.

Here I am, back from my vacation.up north NO idea what weight gain I have from the last week, but I will know tomorrow. All I know is I have a really picky baby on my hands right now, who doesn't want me to eat meat! I don't really get sick from it (yet!) but I really have to force myself to eat it. Weirdness.

ok, what gives. i don't like having to figure out what is wrong to change things. this past week i started running, i started counting calories. i stopped counting my carbs. i have been burning at least 500 a day in exercise. i took one day off from eating and exercising, back at it. the scale is up 3 to 4 pounds since tuesday. so, going to finish out the week and than on tuesday i will go back to the carb counting and see what happens. i also haven't been drinking as much water. i drink about 6 glasses a day. not sure here. thanks guys for reading, it just helps me talk it through and maybe come up with a plan. thinking out loud here.

nothing planned for today. start cleaning out the pool, gym visit.

    hello Sixers,

Sorry for my lack of communication! I'm back now. going to start logging calories and exercise again as of next SUnday. I can't this week beccause I am juicing for 3 days and I have no idea how to log that and MFP will tell me off for eating too less calories anyway.

Got my friends wedding on Friday and have a dress I have borrowed that i must get into (have no alternative outfit so I have to get into it!) its fine but a little tight on the hips - i say 3lbs too tight?? we'll see.

Chipper - your weight may go up temporarily because your body is readjusting to the change. You've got to keep at it for at least 2 weeks and then your body will catch up beacuse it will realise you mean business.

Lula - how is your son doing now? Doesnt sound like he would have had much fun in alaska!? and well done with the bacon/PB cakes (Being from England......... they sounds REALLY WEIRD! - when you say bacon grease do you literally mean the fat off of bacon???)

    xx

Hey Cathy - that's why I always give myself two weeks on anything new because I think it takes your body at least a week to adjust. And I feel that by 14 days, I can honestly say I gave it a fair shot. You are doing great. Don't get too frustrated. Your energy with the running has inspired me, so keep it up :)

Actually, it's odd in the US as well. My best friend and I were sitting talking about our favorite foods (bacon and PB) and so I wondered if it could be put together. Found a recipe, and then tweaked it. I had a friend taste the cupcake the other day and looked at me with this surprised face and said "I'm confused", and she knew about the ingredients. From what I hear, they turned out better than the last ones.

Just came back from the beach. We had a great time with the kids. Now gotta get this week together for school starting next week. My baby boy was scaring me as I could not get him to eat anything. But finally on Saturday evening, after finally getting up halfway through the day to play on the beach, ate some Chinese food. Then yesterday asked me for pizza. But as soon as we hit the car to start our 3 hour drive home, he was fast asleep. Hopefully his body is catching up.

Going back to the beach with my best friend for a just girls weekend on September 17 and 18. So my goal til then is to maintain and to start a weigh toning program. Weights have always scared me. Not just the bulking, but the positions, etc. Also the weight rooms are filled with a bunch of big bulky guys, which is intimidating. But I'm gonna bite the bullet, at least for the next three weeks and see what happens. If I can't lose these last stubborn 7 or 8 lb of vanity weight that I want, then maybe I can at least make my body look like I did.

Clare - can't wait to hear how your slim down for next weekend's wedding goes.

    afternoon.....

started a great day, had a hiccup around 1. now getting myself back. the doctor had to numb my toe and take the thing off and send it off to find out what it is. he didn't like that it went away and is now back. since i take an aspirin every day it won't stop bleeding unless i stay off it and raised. do you know how hard that is to just lay on the couch with your foot up on the arm? it's hard when you have things to do. i have changed the bandage many times already and it just keeps bleeding. oh, well. i won't take an aspirin in the morning.

son was gone until 2. said the line is all laid, he guy was paid. inspector will be out tomorrow between 10-4. and when he gets the paperwork he should be able to get power on the next day. son only had 450 cash, didn't stop to get the rest of the estimate (550), so the guy took the 450 as paid in full. son had helped so much and son paid cash.

off to my couch again. had to get up and change the bandage again and the washer and dryer around.

will start new thread in a few
