Its hard to but after time you get used to it and know who you can talk with about your success and exercise and who is best to avoid the conversation with.
I have learnt that if I am offered a cake I say I'm not hungry or have just eaten or don't fancy it rather than saying I am on a diet. It saves the questions.
What you need to think about when you have critism from people is, what's their motive? Are they concerned jealous or just uneducated?
My own experience of this is from a jealously and uneducated side. My parents are Ironman triathletes and have always been extremely supportive of my weightloss and running. So has my SIL. MIL on the other hand never mentions anything! If she does, its normally because my partner has said 'hasn't Luna lost weight'. She is 252lb and 5ft 2. She deserpately needs to lose weight but says she always comes up with an excuse not too. Or says she is eating healthy and trying but as we know unless we track its not going to get done. I find it hard sometimes but I have learnt to let go.
Maybe write down positive throughts for yourself and positive responses to critism. Whenever you are feeling low, look at them, use what you have written down to respond to others. Over time it will become easier and easier to ignore and let go.

    Best wishes xxxx

OK, this is going to sound ridiculous....but how do you handle it when people start to tell you that you've lost too much weight? I feel great, stronger than I've ever felt. I love the way the exercise DVDs have changed my body, I have a nice muscle tone, even in my legs which have always been the hardest to shape up. I know its possible to be too thin but I am SURE that I am not there. I know what my face looks like when I get too thin and it doesn't look like that now. I feel fit and strong and happy about where I am. I am 48 years old, 5'3" tall and seem to have settled in between 118 and 120. How do I handle the critics? The people who tell me to stop the DVDs? The people who tell me to eat more? Truly, I am not looking to lose more, just looking for the right combo of eating and exercise to maintain my current weight and keep the great definition in my muscles that I've worked so hard for. Any words of wisdom?
Easy. If they aren't accredited in medical or fitness expertise, then their comments can't be taken as truth. Sounds snobbish, but some people think they can give advice on matters they have no background training in. Listen to the experts and not the critics.

First off congrats on losing weight and getting/keeping fit. That said I'll say this, based on your stats you sound healthy. If you really want to shut the critics up, I'd ask your Doctor the next time you see him/her what he/she thinks. If he/she says you're healthy then I'd tell the critics the Dr. says I'm find, my BMI is healthy, I feel good. How about you?

I would not know, never had anyone say that.

Of course, I dont understand at all why I would care if they did. If someone ever said that, I'd probably "handle it" by saying "Thanks!".
