Are String Bikinis Best for all Body Types?

Ah no! But on the other side of the coin if a person feels comfortable wearing them by all means just not around my family.0
-
A very loud NO
I'm reasonably fit and 32, and I am about ready to sport a one piece.
String bikinis are only flattering on about 25% of the female population, tops.0 -
String bikinis are not the most flattering for most female body types. I would say a 1 piece or tankini (or whatever they're called) or the ones with the little skirt things are the most flattering.
You really have to have a hot bod to look good in a string bikini.0 -
My wife says that string bikinis are the most flattering for all body types.
What do you think?
I can't tell if you don't post her pic in one.0 -
I don't think they look good on anyone. Just don't like them.
So, no, they are NOT flattering for all body types. At all.0 -
Oh this brings back memories.
I think string bikinies look really really nice on a curvy hourglass figure. I wore one once upon a time and loved the way my hips looked. Very very curvy.
One day I will wear one again!!!!0 -
NOOOOOOO! Nothing would ever convince me to wear a string bikini, nor would anyone else ever want to see me in one.0
-
I must respectfully disagree, though I saw a few women at the beach the other day who think that. They were wrong.0
-
Bit of nomenclature/ language issues here I think.
In the UK, a string would be a thong, ie that bit of dental floss that goes between your cheeks.
Is that what you mean by a string bikini?
I'll not post you pictures of men in string vests....0 -
of course they are! Everyone's doing it.0

It has a bit of a different definition in the US! lol
A string bikini here is basically a teeny-tiny bikini with strings that tie on the hips and relatively small breast coverage.0 -
How is "relatively small breast coverage" of any use to someone with size G boobs? Especially after 5 years of breastfeeding.
I repeat, a string bikini doesn't NOT flatter all body types. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it probably only flatters about 1% of bodies, and those are the ones that would probably look good in a bin bag.0 -

Just to throw this out there... let's not confuse what flatters a particular body type with what we personally like or dislike. Not being comfortable in something doesn't mean it's unflattering. I know people who insist on wearing certain styles/cuts because they feel better in them, even though the end up drawing attention to the worst part of their body.
Clearly the less fabric there is the more skin you're going to show, and thus the less you'll be able to hide. IMO, string bikinis are only good for about 1% of the people out there and are only good for relaxing in. I think a bikini top (whatever covers/supports you best AND that you're comfortable in) along with a swim skit/cover up/board shorts whatever is a good look for a lot of body types.0 -
The first time I ever wore one I felt a little silly, but that's all I wear now because I heard the same thing. And they're not too strict with the dress code at work so I wear it ever day.0

I was just explaining what it was. :-)
If I ever reach my goal weight, I'll probably be able to get away with a string bikini bottom, but I need some support up top.
A visual for the Brits:

WHAT? haha... the day I say that, I'm in huge denial, especially if that means I'd even dare try to wear one hahaha0

You are quite right.
But string bikinis still don't flatter 99% of the population.0 -

When my son was 5, he walked and talked and even got his own milk out of the refigerator....0 -

Define "string bikini"
Mine has strings that tie on both sides of the bottoms and the top ties around my neck and behind my back - covers all essential parts. I would count mine as a string bikini. I prefer that type bc I can tie it as loose or as tight as I need to make sure it DOES flatter my body. The ones with no adjustable sides leaves me either hanging out all over or squeezed out/stuffed in all over.
Nothing is going to flatter *every* body type.0 -

Not the same child. Dur. Various children, over 5 years.0 -

I was picturing Grown Ups when I read that.0 -
Well I think it depends. The bottoms in my pic are considered string bottoms, no? They tie on the sides. And the top that actually matches them, is a triangle top. I would consider that a string bikini. I think I look pretty good in it!
I don't have a huge set of knockers to be busting out of the top. When I see that, I don't think it's very flattering, but the men might! lol0 -
String bikini bottoms are the most flattering on me since I'm tall, all legs and my waist shape is flat but wider therefore the lower the bikini bottom and the narrower the side straps the more slimming it looks on me. I will ONLY wear this style bottom unless I am at a waterpark going on slides, then you are just asking for trouble, LOL!
Triangle string-bikini tops however I feel only look ok on people with small chests where they can properly fit into the cups. Even getting a larger size triangle top for larger busts results in unnatural squishing and shapes unless you have implants.
I like halter tops best with wide straps at the neck, thin on the back.0 -
I'd say no. There are plenty of women who shouldn't be wearing swimwear all together.0

I mean the kind that are adjustable with little bows on the side, typically from VS.0 -
I really don't want to see that much skin on anyone...unless I'm watching porn
I mostly agree with this! :laugh:0 -
