    I come close to meeting your description.
    I'm 5'9" and started at 228 on Jan 12. Now weigh 199.

    I'm a bit bigger than that...5'9, 247. I started at 289 though back at the end of February. So yes it does work if you stick with it. The biggest thing for me was portion control. Once I started really sticking to serving sizes and watching my calorie intake it clicked. I have hit a plateau lately so I'm trying to switch it up to get back losing again. Good luck my friend!

    It really does work. Log in every day. Even the bad ones. Logging and reading others stories helps you stay motivated. There will be hard days and the first couple of weeks are definitely tough but don't give up. I've lost 31 lbs so far and I've never been able to do that before. Good luck!

    I am 6'0" tall. I was 264 pounds on March 29th. I am now 210 and down 6 inches in my waist. This app/ web site really helps you stay on track.

    I am taller than you at 6'4 but started at 225lbs. I have had great success withe the help of this site since I began in June. I am down over 30lbs and 1.5 pant sizes. Counting calories in and out has been the #1 thing that has helped me to lose the weight. Sticking to the calorie plan and exercising a lot is what has allowed me to lose over 30lbs so quickly.     I cleaned up my diet (no more soda, fried foods, or sugary foods).

    I started walking about 2 miles a day. I was dropping 15 pounds a month (eating 1200-1500 calories per day).

    I'm now 170 and still kicking *kitten*. I've graduated from walking to jogging and am training for a 10k. (I hate walking and running, but I have so much energy I have to burn it somewhere).

    As long as you stay motivated you'll succeed! The people here are great to lean on when you need help.

  • It helps tracking your food sooooo much. I started 195 thirty days ago and its taken me to 186 in 30 days. you have to find a workout routine and stick with it. Cardio after weights helps too.

    When i started this i was 268 lbs (April 2011) and i must say that keeping track of your calories is the way to go. Burning more calories than you consume per day is THE ONLY WAY to lose weight. Gimmicks, fads , etc. are nonsense and we all know it. stay away from processed foods and put in 30 min of exercise (of any kind) and you WILL see results. 237 lbs today (31 lbs in 4 months). it's hard to keep up the work i know but the results are amazing and you will love yourself more and more!! keep it up!

    6 ft started at 288lbs on March 3rd 2011, am now 223lbs. Combine keeping track of the calories with exercise and it works.

    I'm 5'10 and started here at 211, although I'm sure I weighed more before I started trying. I am down 17.5 pounds in 3 months. I feel like I could be doing better if I worked a little harder too. So yes, I would say this site works.

    started jan 7, 6'2, 240 now am just under 207. Definately works if you stick with it and don't lose faith. Even if you are not 100% perfect, you will make headway if you can change your habits and give it time.

    Looking to lose another 10 lbs or so.

    I am 5'10" and was 227 last spring when I started riding a bicycle. I got down to about 210 in the fall without really giving it a lot of thought. When the weather got cold, the riding slowed as I moved indoors on a trainer. It just was not as fun. Through the spring, due to lack of calorie tracking, my weight crept back up to 217.

    Three months ago I started tracking calories on MFC, and I have lost ~24 pounds. Here's why it works for me: Obviously, the key is more exercise, less calories. It ain't rocket science. To lose ~2 pounds/ week, I have to limit my calories to about 1500/day. If I don't exercise, 1500 feels like a pretty low amount. But if I throw in bike ride for an hour, I "buy" myself 1000 extra calories. If I can eat 2500 and still be at my calorie goal, I feel like I am eating about as much as I want to eat. If I ride for 2 hours (a quantity of work I have really only built up to recently) then I can eat 3500 calories if I want to, and still be at my target. I have not wanted to eat that much in the past 90 days.

    My weight is below 200 for the first time in recent memory, my college soccer playing weight (185) is within sight, and my suit size has gone from snug at 40 to an easy 36.

    So logging calories has been the key for me to seeing the link between exercise and food consumption.

    PLUS, by logging the food you eat, you also get the added benefit of actually seeing the calories attached to what you eat. This discipline has made junk food and calorie-dense crap seem much, MUCH less appealing to me. I have even cut way back on pasta, rice and bread, which used to be staples. I feel like I am eating all day. But I'm eating fruit and vegetables, instead of starchy junk.

    So, the answer is, IMHO, yeah, it works at first, and then success builds on success and then it works more.

    Saturday I rode 80 miles. It is a helluva lot easier climbing hills with 30 less pounds to carry.

    I'm 5'10", Started in March at 265lbs, Now at 222. This absolutely works IF you are honest with yourself and get help when you need it. I've logged on for 160 consecutive days and ~120 of them have been "Good", 35 have been *Meh*, and 5 have been "OMG WTF did I do?"

    Stick with it - get moving and extend your life.

    It DEFINITELY works. I'm 5'-10" and started 11 weeks at weighting 261. I'm 228 now, I feel great, button-down shirts aren't popping open and I'm never hungry. Do it -- you won't regret it!
