Looking for fellow dog owners

I was wondering if anyone has a dog that they would like to incorporate into their work out? I was thinking of starting a dog walkers club and we would walk our pups for at least 25 minutes a day. Then maybe we could add other things to make it more interesting.

Jada (my Beaglier) and I are in the process of C25K. We walk/run every night. She is 15 weeks so it wears her out which is a PLUS. I live in a small town but I would LOVE to find people in my area to do the same thing =)

    Count me in =)

My dog was part of my inspiration to get healthier. He had a vet visit in May and they said he was 3-5lbs overweight. Not horrible but I pretty decent percentage when he weighed 65lbs. It was bad enough that my laziness was hurting my health.

We've been doing C25K and then twice a week we go out and run/walk 4 miles without the program.

I'm down 19 lbs and as of his last appt Gizmo is down 4.5lb!. So he's at goal weight!

Next spring I'm going to buy a bike and the dog bike attachment to see if I can really wear him out!

Love to join! We have an older great dane/lab mix (Rupert) who cannot run but loves to walk and a 2yr doberman (Bella) who can run for miles and miles. I usually walk them for 30min in the mornings and then husband will take them out at night and takes Bella on his runs.

I LOVE cattle dogs!! We had one for 12 years and she was amazing!! After she passed away we got a puppy but she was killed when she was 8 months old by our neighbor. After that we decided to switch breeds due to our young children and now we have labs, but cattle dogs always hold a very special place in my heart!

I own a Lab/Pitt Mix who gets a 30-45minute walk each day, and he comes with hubby and I on the C25K runs we do as well.

I'm trying to subtly encourage my husband to start a C25K program. He used to run and loved it. We have a treadmill, but I thought it would be fun for him to take our Wilson along. He's mostly dachshund but we think a little schnauzer mixed in. His legs are a lot longer than pure dachshunds. And he runs super fast around the yard. He would love to go running with dad, at least while my husband builds back his endurance. But so far, my subtle efforts have not gotten very far.

Ha! Agreed. It makes me laugh that it sounds like a locomotive in here for 20min when we get back.

@voidingface - it's still way hot here too. We walk for sure bf 10am, bf 9am is better and around 8pm when the sun is going down. A couple of health tips for the furry ones in the heat:
Do not feed within an hour bf or after walking,
Take breaks in the shade - we have a grassy spot under an oak that they run for and lay down to wait for me when they are off leash,
If you have a safe area, letting them off leash also seems easier on them bc they can go at their own pace.

My dogs love to exercise with me.

They get so excited anytime I put on workout clothes.

I take them hiking, running, and even have a special leash that attaches to my bike

I always exercise with my dogs! I have a six year old Akita who is slow and a crazy GSD mix that is 1.5 years old! Because they are so different on their walks, they get seperate ones, which means I get twice the workout! Caden (my mix) is the reason I started running again. We are training her for Agility and Nose work, so she needs to be in shape as well as me!
  • Oh boy or should I say oh woof! This is better than I thought. Ok everyone just come in and say how long you walked and if you saw anything while walking your dogs. I guess we can keep this going until everyone gets bored with it.

Guess I should introduce myself, my name is Roxanne I live in Rochester, NY and I have a great hubby and a wonderful son. We also have 3 cats (Missy, Suzie and Cindy) and my little guy Sparky. He is going to be 2 years old, and he looooovvvveeeesssss his walk! He will whine if I'm moving too slowly to his way of thinking to get ready to walk, or if it's raining out and I really don't want to go. I end up going and praying that it dosen't rain any harder. As soon as I can figure out how to put up a picture of him, I'll post one.
  • You know if you can't walk because of the heat, just walk when you can. Wait until it's cooler, I know I have a little cavalier spaniel/bichon mix and even this morning he was panting. It was around 60 I guess, however the sun was very warm, I was trying to stay on the shady side of the streets, however a portion of the walk has no shade. We cut the walk short. I might take him out again when the sun sets.
  • I have a little Brussels Griffon, Max, who loves to walk. He gets so excited when I pick up his harness and then leaps off my lap and runs to the door as soon as it's off. We usually walk for at least 20 minutes, but I could pay attention more to how much we are doing and put in a solid 30 minutes. Unfortunately, I don't know how much of a work out it is. He's only 4 months old, so we're still working on good walking behaviors, like forward momentum and not stopping at every single light pole to see which dog was there last. I did start this new game where we run across intersections and he loves this, so I can probably be more consistent with that and get in some little bursts of speed.

Mine is a boxer mix and we usually walk 30-45 minutes in the morning and over an hour of walking or jogging in the evening. I get so much of my exercise with her. Plus, sometimes I also walk a friend's dog too.

I've got a big 16 month old pup so we walk a lot. Gotta wear him out to make sure he doesn't get bored and start destroying things. Even with all the walking we've gotten him a pack with a bit of weight that really helps tire him out.

The word which we dare not say (in my house); leash.

You will get clobbered if you do.
