This will be the first year going to TWO thanksgivings Last year my husband was out of town on a hunting trip so I was super sad and hungry. This year i'm going to eat whatever I want, at both houses not count calories, do my regular exercising but the big thing is stopping when I'm full not when I'm about to puke I'm so ready for some Ham and stuffing0

This is my first celiac Thanksgiving so it will involve a lot more veggies this time around and an alternate version of dressing, my scalloped potatoes (the recipe has yukon gold and sweet potatoes), pumpkin cheesecake, and I don't know what else. My husband comes home from a 2 month business trip the day before Thanksgiving so I want it to be memorable.0

Hm, I start christmas shopping in September and sometimes earlier depending on sales and the summer clearance items, so I don't think August is too early to think about Thanksgiving! I start thinking about what dessert I am going to make at least a month ahead of time and stock up on the ingredients for it and then for Christmas I do the same thing. I am a planner. I don't make the actual meal, my mom does that for thanksgiving, but for Christmas day when we have my husband's sister over and we have turkey and potatoes and other yummy foods (mostly sugar free and healthy due to her and hubby being diabetic) I buy stuff way ahead and freeze it, but I buy the potatoes just a couple days before, same with apples if I am making a pie. I plan to eat everything this year, and I have never ate a whole lot at once anyways so I will probably stick with the same portions. Can't wait now, my mouth is watering for my momma's home made stuffing!
I do lots of planning ahead, it makes everything way easier. I do plan my entire menu for the week, so it only makes sense that I plan ahead for special holidays. All my friends think i'm crazy for planning so far in advance, that's okay. They've accepted me for the crazy person that I am. lol0 -
I love black Friday shopping, so ill try to eat just turkey and a very low carbs stuffing that i always make (and its delicious), so im gonna eat low crab and control portions so ill have the energy and the enthusiasm to go try some clothes on, that's my plan0

Yeah, it's August and Yes, I've been thinking about Thanksgiving already. The reason being that I just register for my first half marathon, which I will be running on Thanksgiving day.
After I run 13.1 miles I intend to go home, spend time with family and friends, and eat whatever the heck I want, and then veg out on the couch watching football and I might even have a beer or two. On black Friday I shall return to my diet and resume my training. (Full marathon training starts right after Christmas!)
My journey to being fit & healthy kinda started last year right after Thanksgiving, because that's when I started the C25K program. I've only been paying strict attention to my diet for about 3 months now, and have had great results. I'm so excited to be running the half marathon so close to my 1 year running anniversary0 -
actually, I was at Walgreens last night and they already have the plastic orange pumpkins out.......you know the kind that illuminate Trick or Treat when you walk by em..........cool and lots of scarry masks.........Booo

Never too early to plan................Gobble gobble....................Lloyd0 -

This is my second Celiac Thanksgiving. I'm on a Paleo lifestyle plan. So, this Thanksgiving here is what I'll do: Rubbing my turkey with olive oil, sprinkling with salt and pepper, and placing a bunch of fresh thyme and lemon in the cavity. Roasting low and slow. (And I will be eating that skin. I eat chicken skin all the time, and I'm never gonna stop. hahaha) My sides will be a beautiful warm salad made of asparagus, red onions, red and yellow bell peppers over fresh baby spinach leaves. I will drizzle that with a dressing that I make with roasted garlic, apple cider vinegar, GOOD EVOO, honey and a gorgeous mustard. I will also be making up a gorgeous sweet potato dish that consists of: almond butter, sweet potatoes, coconut oil, cinnamon, and walnuts that were slightly candied in honey. That is so sweet that it is almost a dessert. BUT my dessert will probably be a gorgeous baked apple stuffed with a few gently cinnamon candied walnuts and maybe a finely minced date.
Edited to add: white wine. Yes, at least 2 glasses of white wine. :P
Who needs grains with a spread like that? :laugh:0 -

Your spread sounds wonderful! Great ideas for me to follow through with. I would love that sweet potato recipe if you don't mind sharing.0 -

Geez, you should be a food writer :-) That sounds amazing! Suggest soaking the date in coconut water overnight mmmm!0 -
I'm actually leaving for a cruise two days after Thanksgiving so I'm going to save my indulgence for then I will probably have a healthy amount of turkey, maybe a baked potato and some greens. Nothing too crazy.0

hahaha Thanks! I think that I used the word gorgeous two too many times, but I was in a rush. Soaking the date sounds like a great idea. I try to soak my nuts (giggle, but it's true!) to help digestibility. I bet dates would be great soaked, too.0 -
i hope it works out like easter did then i will not have to worry bout it. i ate way to much on easter and was upset that i would gain. my step dad and i have been on a diet for a while and he ate alot too so we went outside to talk away from everyone on the back porch cuz i was making plans with him to go to the gym. for this to help the story i am giving ages lol. i am 23 and my stepdad is in his early 40s, 42 or 43 lol. anyhow my brother (age 16) decided that he would help us out and he got my cousins who are sisters 16 and 12. they all came outside and we ended up playing tag for like 3hrs. they out run me and my stepdad, so we had to try to run faster we burned so many calories. so my hope is that since we will all be together for thanksgiving that we could all eat and fill up on whatever and then go do a fun activity outside to burn it all away..0

Here in England we don't celebrate Thanksgiving but I wish we did after reading this thread. It sounds amazing!0

It's not even September. I refuse to think about holidays until they're in season. Hallmark... I'm looking at you Halloween in August.0

It's an American holiday where we give thanks for three things; escaping the oppressive tyranny of the Great Empire, dental hygiene, and our greatest accomplishment on the world stage, getting David Beckham to play in the MLS.
Don't forget small pox for the Indians!0 -

Is it bad that I can't tell if you're being sarcastic about David Beckham? You're welcome to keep him!0 -

Stuffing my face until I go into a turkey coma......................
Oh, wait. That is what I did last year. This year probably eating again but not to the point where I am in a coma and my pants are unbuttoned and the muffin top is overflowing on top of the unbuttoned pants....0 -
I plan on eating until I can't walk. :glasses: then I'll have my husband bring me dessert.
To make it worse, the night before a big group of us get together and get completely hammered. :drinker: :drinker: Tradition -known as "thanksgiving eve insanity" - started 7 years ago when my brothers fiance broke up with him the day before and we drowned his sorrows in Bud Light. Since then, we've grown it to a pretty big invite list, now include tons of crappy bar-type food and a ridiculous amount of alcohol. Oh yeah, and before the turkey goes in the fridge for the night, we all slap him. now that I don't know why we do, but we do.   :laugh:0 -
I always fix the traditional stuff! Turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, lots and lots of desserts, etc.....
The one thing I do differently at my house when I host Thanksgiving is that I do not make everyone wait until after dinner to have dessert. I always fix the desserts the day before and let everyone get into them while waiting for dinner.
I think it is crazy to have all that food sitting around waiting until after a BIG meal when you are too full to enjoy it. So we just eat all day!
Last year after dinner my son and I went down to the high school track and ran intervals until I was sore! LOL0 -
I may make a chicken or just get a Sunbway turkey grinder.
For the first time in decades I will have no family or anywhere to go for Turkey day. My son is in college and wont be home for Thanksgiving. My wife is flying down to TX Thursday morning to be with the daughter who is due Dec 7 with granddaughter #2. I have no other family that is close enough to drive too.
I cannot get away due to a major (as in $1.2 billion dollar contract) that is due for Dec 15 so my team and I will be working partially on Thursday and then through that weekend.0 -
Yeah, I'm gonna eat. It's a holiday and it's not an everyday occurence. I can't imagine sitting in the corner eating the lean cuisine turkey meal while everyone else is eating the home cooked stuff.0
-
I eat a serving of mashed potatoes, and all the turkey and vegetables I can until I pass out.0
-
My wife is due to have a child.
congrats!
i have a buddy from school who had a daughter born on TG two years ago - her middle name is Macy for the parade! LOL0
