People Complaining about how far the gym is...

Not everyone can afford the gas for that...If it comes to money being an issue, then if you care about your health you will work out at home or go jogging. In which case I understand what you're saying.
If people use it as an excuse to not exercise at all, then that's pretty lame. But for us people who don't have money to spare with the gas prices going up, it's totally understandable. And not everyone has time either. Tell this rant to new mothers who want to get rid of the baby weight. Maybe they can't afford a sitter, don't have a car, are single, etc. As for me, I make time where I can and work out at least 4 times a week, but I don't think I am making excuses by not having a car, a job, and am homebound taking care of my sister's baby. I hate when people rant about general situations because everyone has a unique situation.
Mainly my point was excuses made on why they can't live healthier.0 -
But complaining about gasmoney is also making an excuse. Its just about prioritaising. Its like saying you cant afford to eat healty. The question is can you afford not to? The people I see complaining about the healtier food beeing to expensive nine out of ten times smoke or go out to expensive clubs, drink or take a taxi. Funny how theres money for those things but not for the one thing that might make you live longer.
Not when you have enough money only for the electric, the rent, a phone and just enough food to live. People that can't afford to go to a gym can work out at home. That's a generalization. The people you're talking about are people who do things because it makes them look good. If they cared they'd quit smoking and buy better foods.0 -
I wish my gas was under $2.00... Hell, I wish it was under $3.00!0

They can always work out at home: doing pushups and jumping jacks require no special equipment.0

Ok but why pick the gym thats 10 miles away? cant be because its cheapier then anyone closer since you still need to pay for the gas? If theres a will theres a way.0

I don't go to a gym because there isn't one where I live. There isn't even a grocery store here, I have to drive 30 minutes for that. I do workout, just not at a gym.0

The key problem with theese people is that they only see the problem and obstacles and not the solutions.0

I never say, "I didn't work out because I couldn't get to the gym," but the gym being a 30 minute drive away is a pain in the bum.
And it's not that far, but with traffic and all, then using the locker room, it takes a solid half hour between when I leave the house and when I start exercising, and another half hour from when I stop exercising to when I get home again. I'm perfectly fine with spending an hour exercising daily, but when that ends up being two hours with drive time, that's more time than I'm willing to dedicate EVERY day. And I'm not going to bother driving to the gym unless I'm going to spend a minimum of an hour there.0 -
The problem is people thinking that people that have restrictions are just making excuses and are lazy. You just got to do your own thing, do your best at getting exercise when you can, eat as healthy as possible, and not worry what closed minded things people might say.0

And then there are those of us who don't have a car.
But whatever. I exercise on my own without a gym and I don't care what anyone thinks of that.0 -

There is that. I don't have a car, but there is a "aquatic and fitness center" 1.5 miles away from me. The membership is $37/month and it goes to the city Parks and Rec, so it's a good investment (plus, you can use the gym, pool, and take all the classes for no extra charges!). I walk there. I walk there to go swimming. I walk there to go to Zumba. If I'm extra sore, I'll take the bus there and walk home, or vice versa. I HAVE to walk there on Sundays, because there's no bus, or if I'm there in the evenings after the bus route has ended.
There was a kids' swimming class while I was there today. After I finished, one of the mothers approached me and said she was impressed by how many laps I had done (10). I was telling her how I'm trying to build up to being able to swim a mile no problem again, and she said "well, it's better than I do. All I've done is fold towels." I told her she should hop in sometime, that's it's a lot of fun. She just stared at me. You're already at the gym. Your kid is in a class. Why not do something while you're already there?! /rant
Edit: I'm so not judging, was just saying that there are those of us who have gyms within walking distance, and who can't really make excuses. Especially people who are already there. So please don't read my response as negative. I was going to post it anyway, just quoted yours because you said you also don't have a car :flowerforyou:0 -
