For anyone who has experience with this program....

Do you stick to the three day a week plan? If so, what do you do on the other 4 days for exercise?

Thanks.

  • Wow, my first post on the message board! I started C25K about a month ago. I did week 3 for about 2 weeks, and just now moved onto week 4. That being said, I also do it 5-6 days a week, with 1 DOR and 1 day of other activity. I'm interested to hear how everyone else does it.

Hi! I just started this Monday. I have done it before and had great success with it - by the end of the program, I was able to run 3 miles without stopping - and actually enjoyed it! Anyways, I exercise 5 days a week - I do cardio (C25K paired with other activities) three days a week, and then on the other two days, I spend one day doing yoga - either at a local class or my Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown DVD and the other day doing strength training - either lifting weights at a class at my gym or doing a weights workout from a magazine. Hope this helps!

My husband and I have been doing this together and the way our schedules are, we can only do 2 runs a week (usually Sunday and Wednesday). So far we have been able to stay on track and not repeat a week (just finished week 5 last night) though I can't vouch that it's harder or easier by not following the three days a week. We did pull a "no-no" and ran two days in a row and I wouldn't recomment it. It was in the second week and we were SO sore the day after. I am also a member of Curves and I have Turbo Jam DVD's that I occassionally do at home on off days. I say just go with what you can and your body allows. Good luck! :)

It is as flexible as you need it to be, but I think the 3 day a week runs works best. I did C25K last fall and stuck with the 3 days a week for 9 weeks and was able to run a 5K shortly there after. I wouldn't recommend doing more than 3 runs early on due to having to build up endurance, as you get further along you can probably add more days of running if you think you need to.
As for the off days, take some days off to let your body rest; but you can also do weights, ride bike, walk, just about anything on those days.
Hope the program works as well for you as it did for me!
