ahhh another working weekend. :grumble: ...so I'm thinkin' they need to make a law that says people can't be sick enough to need medical attention on the weekends! it would work for me!
so I missed 2 of my 4 workout days this week. I know I will pay for it on Monday with the Slave Driver. But I suppose that's why I need her... accountability! :ohwell:
Off I go... have a great weekend, ladies!!0 -
Cazz, you got this!!! Show 'em what you're made of!!!!
April, what a beautiful walk that must have been... I love nature walks!
Well, ladies... I did my first 12 mile training run! It was hard, it hurt, I'm not gonna lie. Probably the biggest thing I learned was not to do a 10 mile speedwork run two days before a long run like that. It's too much. My knees and bilsters are mad at me. But the other thing I learned is that I'm stronger and more athletic than I ever thought I could be! I was not huffing and puffing, my heart rate stayed in a good place throughout the run and I cooled down quickly. I'm sitting here icing my knees and my blister looks like a sixth toe on my left foot, but I feel ok! Making some lunch soon and hubby will be home for dinner, so we may go out which will be nice. He's golfing tomorrow for the first time in forever with some guys for a bachelor party. I'm glad he's going, but it's his one day home, I'll have to enjoy what time I get tonight!!!
Anyway, thanks for sticking with me with all this running talk, I know I bore people (especially on facebook) but somehow I think you understand better than they do how much this change in me means. I'm so much happier and healthier than I was before and I thank you all for sticking by me through it! My race is in two weeks, and then I fully intend to slow down the running and start doing more weight lifting until it's time to start training for the next one!!!! You girls are amazing! Get out there and try something you never thought you could do.... I did, and it's amazing!!!!!0 -

My Positives for Today:
1. Autumn is here !!I feel the wonderful change!
2. I have gained and lost the last 10 pounds so many times I could make another person-BUT clothes are looser.
3. Am Blessed with so many great MFP friends and Family.0 -
Today I went to the mall with my son and he wanted to go in the Halloween store to look at costumes. For the first time in my life I bought a sexy Halloween costume! I am hoping I have the guts to actually wear it...but I did try it on and thought it looked cute.0

No talk away, I think its amazing. I can't run, well I havent really given it much of a chance tbh. I can exercise for hours but can't run to the end of the street, I am very jealous. Maybe I might try couch to 5k or something.0 -

Go for it!!! I don't have plans to get dressed up for Halloween, but maybe I should!!!! LOL!
And BJ, thanks... I started with the couch to 5k and if I can become a runner, I believe anyone without a physical reason why can also become a runner!!! You may not be crazy and totally obsessed like me, but you CAN run!
Oh, and so you don't think I'm superhuman or something, my knee is KILLING me tonight. Ice, ibuprofen and wrapping... that's my own prescription. If it's not good on Monday I'll call my chiropractor for some rehab and kinesiotaping... until then I'm home remedy-ing myself. Ouch.0 -
OMG last night was one crazy night. Got violated many times.. ehh.. haha..
I just got done working out in the garage with my mom.. Were starting a weight loss thing next weekend.. Where gonna put $5 in a pot weekly for 12 weeks. Whoever loses the most percentage of weight loss, gets the money.. then starting all over again. I need the extra push.. I do soo good and then something happens and i just give up.. I dont know what my fears are, but Im going to over come them!
About to head home. Going to weigh in on my wii fit, since thats where Ive weighed for this group.. There is a little bit of difference between moms scale.. and the wii fit.. So we will see.. Im going to weigh in, and then get caught up on here.. Maybe do a nother small workout at home..0 -
Even though I worked today, I had a great day! Somber, to be sure. But a great day nonetheless! :bigsmile:0

Results as of Sunday, 9/11:
Miles: 61.16/150
Crunches: 575/1000
Lunges: 290/1000
Challenges for WEEKS 3 & 4
Challenge 1: Drink AT LEAST your 8 Glasses of water DAILY & Add some color to your diet. (Reds, Oranges, Greens, ect)
~5/7 days of 8+ cups of H20. Still working on adding color to my diet
Challenge 2: Give yourself a mini makeover of some kind, to help you feel better about yourself. To remind yourself how much you love, you!
~Got my hair done
Challenge 3: 200 Push ups over & "homemade" workout
~60 Pushups done. I have a homemade strength training routine that I attempt to do 3 times a week. However, was only able to do Strength training once this week0 -
I love these strength challenges! Typically I struggle to prioritize my strength training workouts - in spite of being a cardio queen (hey, obviously cardio can't fix it all or I never would have been overweight to start with!)
Still have a ways to go on all these challenges, but many thanks for keeping me motivated!
Crunches: 450 / 1000
Lunges: 150 / 1000
Push-Ups: 80 / 200
And a random thought... I was at the mall yesterday, noticed a new Halloween store so decided to pop in and check it out. Holy cow, ALL the costumes were seriously skin-baring! Definitely NOT anything I can wear to the office costume competition! More like something I would have worn to frat parties back in college!!!0 -
Happy Monday! I had a great weekend...baseball on Saturday with a win for the home team...Sunday, had lunch with my bestie! Of course, Sunday was a bit sad with all the coverage, but beautiful rememberances.
Hoping to increase my lunge, crunch count this week, I am getting there. The pushups are not my friend, but I am doing them. Walking about 3 miles per day this week...supposed to be nice so I am going to take advantage of it. Still doing fairly well on eating..my weight loss is showing it!
Have a wonderful week...celebrate you!
Linda0 -
this last week has been so horrible for me. I am up 1.6 pounds since last monday. This is the worng direction!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been walking a decent amount. I try for 2 miles a day. That's a huge improvement from none. But I had a baby shower this weekend to attend and co-host. So I made goodies on Saturday (and ate so many of them I had to make more) and then Sunday was the shower and I ate more goodies (this time not just mine, but all the others)
So now its Monday and I have a HUGE headache (probably frrom all the sugar!) and I'm just frustrated. I lost the first 11 (out of 25) so easily and since then I have been trading back and for 2 pounds and I know this is just my body's natural weight. I still look a good 5 months preggo and still have major muffin, but I can't seem to get past 13 pounds lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok sorry about my very long rant!
Hope everyone is doing much better than me!!0 -
Nikki - Yay for finishing a 12 mile run! Your blisters may be screaming at you, but you did it and that's amazing! You are an inspiration for us new runners!
Molly - clothes fitting better is the goal, so congratulations on that, and the rest of the weight will come off in time. I've been back and forth over the same 3 lbs for a month (vacation, back home, weekend away, back home...etc) but it'll get better soon!
Belinda - awesome that you bought a sexy Hallowe'en costume! What kind did you get??
AprilVal - I hope you win the pot! We'll help you however we can. What are you going to do with the money when you win?
loveme445 and 321blueeyes - you're totally on track with the challenges! It's very motivating to see how well people are doing
Linda - just keep doing the lunges, crunches and pushups and the challenge will be done before you know it! When do you go back to school? Is it already started?
ckdub428 - a bad weekend is not the end of the world, though I totally understand your frustration. Maybe today you could fit in a longer walk, or a slightly faster pace, to kickstart your week? Or do some of the lunges/crunches/push-ups to get your body burning fat? Challenge yourself early in the week and you might see rewards later this week!
As for me, I got up REALLY early this morning to meet my new running buddy at my gym and we did 5 miles. So I feel that's a pretty good start to the week. Tomorrow I'll lift weights and get more of those lunges in (it took me 3 days to recover from Thursday, when I did 110 lunges!).
I saw this today and thought it was a nice reminder:
The scale can only give you a numerical reflection of your relationship With gravity.
That's it!
It can't measure beauty, talent, purpose, life force, possiblities, strength, or LOVE.
Don't give the scale more power than it has earned.
Take note of the number, get off the scale and live your life.
Have a great Monday everyone!0 -

School starts Oct 31. I have online orientation on the 13th of October...I will get my plan of study that day too. They did accept all of my pre reqs...even those old *kitten* ones from 1985-86. So hopefully it is just nursing classes that I need to take. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I feel good though getting back on the healthy bus....You look like you are doing awesome as well!

"Dont forget to weigh in..
How many miles have you walked/ran of the 150? Are you struggling? What can we do to help motivate you?
How many Crunches & Lunges have you done out of the 1000? Do you need some extra inspiration?
Challenges for WEEKS 3 & 4

Challenge 2: Give yourself a mini makeover of some kind, to help you feel better about yourself. To remind yourself how much you love, you!
Challenge 3: 200 Push ups over the next 2 weeks. & Put together a "homemade" workout and stick to it, over the duration of the two weeks. (homemade workout, using things around the house to help you workout - its helpful for those who cant get to the gym, or cant afford the workout equipment) If you need help with the "homemade" workouts I can give you some ideas.
As always: remember your daily 3 positive things. You may list them if you'd like.
Ok guys, I am back from friend's wedding in Spain (got in yesterday a day late after a work "slow down" by the air traffic controllers"- as promised I am also refocussing
I will not have the 150 mile goal but will have the goal to do:
30 Day shred at least 4 times a week plus 4 walks a week
I am co-leading a 7km walk through a local forest on October 15 so that will help keep me focused too I think
I see that we need to do 200 push-ups I guess good old Jillian will help with that (I hope we are allowed to do the knee version cause my real push-ups are still very weak - but I will try to do a few of those as well :-) )
and I know that the lunges and crunches will also be covered by her :-)
I will try to catch up with the old posts - LINDA - I see you are going back to school - how exciting!0 -
Linda- I read up a bit and see that you are going back for your BSN- good for you! interesting that it is all online but imagine that that's because as you are already a Nurse you don't need the clinical hours just the theory? I also have a BSN (it is my third degree) done through an accelerated program- funny, we had to sign an agreement that we would not work while studying as the program was 21 credit hours a term instead of a standard 15-16 credit hours, but for some reason the stress of the more hours and still working - worked for me and I suspect that you also have the type of time management where the busier you get the better your time management - so I am sure you will be great!0

You are right..no clinicals! It is through Purdue University, got a huge deal...will pay about 6-8,000 dollars instead of nearly 20,000 dollars or more. Stress in my life is like the air I breathe...never a dull moment. Sometimes I thrive on the adrenaline but the crash is what kills me. I will continue to work, only taking one class at a time, runs in 5 week increments. I thik a couple of non nursing classes like stats run 10 weeks. I am excited and nervous at the same time. My girlfriend has already started and is doing well...she says if she can, I can. I find her to be much smarter than me....0 -

******UPDATE**********
Ok since yesterday and my pouting I pulled myself together and have done 5 miles, 199 crunches, and 41 squats, with pushups, triceps dips and at least one more mile planned today!
Thank you to everyone who helped me out of my funk!!!
oh and I I weighed in again and was down .8!!0 -
Ok, I totally love you!!!! But I do love my Detroit sports teams... Grandpa taught me young to be loyal to your teams... I still root for my own high school even though my kids go to a different district. Thankfully, we never play each other so I don't feel disloyal to either team this way! But yeah, pro teams can piss me off sometimes... and I'm STILL a Lions fan, of course my Tigers are kicking some major butt this year! And the Red Wings.. don't get me started on the awesomeness that is Hockeytown!!!! LOL!
I sleep in Red Wings shirts and my Belgian husband NEVER runs a race without his Tigers hat!!!0 -
Linda- Good luck on Stats - when my mom went back to work on her Ph.D stats are what she hated the most- I didn't need them for my BSN as I already had several courses for my Bio and Psych degrees
I think part of the problem for my mom is that the same month she started working on her Ph.D. she also took on a new job as head of the ICUs for a new hospital in our area (my mom is a Nurse Practictioner, previous specialtiy was Cardiovascular Surgical, until she went into admin) in the end she decided starting as the ICUs head of a yet to be opened hospital, with all of the planning and meetings etc, as well as starting her PhD was too much and since she never wanted a PhD (it was her husbands idea) she kept the job and dropped the schooling (after she got through stats though) - then 6 months later she changed jobs as she missed her clinical time :ohwell:
anyway I am sure you will do great0 -
Well Nicki...the Tigers are kicking some Chicago *kitten* this year...but they are hot. Was able to see Verlander pitch...he is pretty good. Have to give credit where it's due...now you won't see me say the same about the Red Wings...just can't. lol
Jen...The stats class does scare me..but they say this particular class is not math based so I hope that takes the fear away. It is just the unfamiliarity of all online that I have to prepare for..no classes. But they have a discussion board which you are supposed to post on and answer others questions. All new experiences...I supoose all this MFP chatting has prepared m for discussion boards...don't ya think?0 -
Weigh day and I am the same weight again 139lb0
-
I'm down a smidge from last week, 0.2 pounds. Down is better than up, though! Tonight dinner is all-you-can-eat shrimp at Red Lobster for my cousin's birthday. I've already looked online at the nutrition info...here's hoping I can keep control of myself. Though, no guarantees, as I dont call those cheddar bay biscuits cheddar CRACK biscuits for nothing! *drool carb goodness*0
-
Been a rough week for my meal planning, think I will wait until next week to weigh. I'd much rather see some movement over a 2-week period than stress over a gain/maintain. Know what I need to do to fix it
Bummer too that I've been having problems with my quads & don't want to ruin my 1/2 marathon this weekend... so am falling behind on my lunges but will pick up again next week. So strange, legs mostly feel fine except when I sprint the bases at softball or when doing lunges :frown: Gotta get this fixed!
The one bit of good news - NSV! At my softball game tonight... halfway to first base I realized that my pants were falling down! Nowhere near actually falling off, but the waist was slipping down which has never happened before! Still plenty tight on the butt and thighs though so I expect that I can still use them another month or two.0 -
pants loose always a great thing!
Verlander is awesome, though I did go to a cubs game this year (against atlanta) and had a great time (and the cubs one) - funny story is- hubby while driving out of chicago to detroit said- who would ever chear for the cubs when you could bet a sox fan
the day we drove back into chicago, we went from Geneva train station into the city and hubby saw soe cubs fans- he then said- hey we could go to the cubs game  we had a great time too- so I guess he has changed his attitude a bit- but is still a tigers fan
now as for the blackhawks- I can cheer for them, after all, like the wings, they are one of the original teams afterall, been to a game even, I just can't cheer for them if they are playing the wings0 -
I will walk tonight, I will walk tonight, I will walk tonight
ok - now should i go outside (planning on that for tomorrow as the weather is scheduled to be good, today it is ok) or should i do leslie Sansone DVD
Advantage of outside, fresh air, trees, nature, disadvantage- muddy
inside: I walk faster and get in some resistance training- disadvantage- none really per se just is inside, which is neutral right now0
