  • Verlander is awesome, though I did go to a cubs game this year (against atlanta) and had a great time (and the cubs one) - funny story is- hubby while driving out of chicago to detroit said- who would ever chear for the cubs when you could bet a sox fan

My hubby would say the same thing....I grew up with the Cubs (Mom was a huge fan) But then I married my man...who despises the Cubs. he and my mom used to bet each other who would win the Crosstown series. of course, Mom is gone now so we miss those bets!
I'm gonna let you and Nicki cheer for your beloved Wings...but I can't. Not even secretly. Way too much rivalry there. I really can't wait for hockey to start. The Hawks were a bit messy in the beginning but started getting it together just a little too late. We will see.
Go on that walk today...I am in the process of trying to run a quick mile. I am at 14:32...pitiful. But I ran for two minutes, walked for one minute. So, I am getting back on the tread and trying again today.

Ok, I totally love you!!!! But I do love my Detroit sports teams... Grandpa taught me young to be loyal to your teams... I still root for my own high school even though my kids go to a different district. Thankfully, we never play each other so I don't feel disloyal to either team this way! But yeah, pro teams can piss me off sometimes... and I'm STILL a Lions fan, of course my Tigers are kicking some major butt this year! And the Red Wings.. don't get me started on the awesomeness that is Hockeytown!!!! LOL!

I sleep in Red Wings shirts and my Belgian husband NEVER runs a race without his Tigers hat!!!

I love you AND your hubby!!!! Yay for Detroit sports!

Ok, my run today did NOT go as planned, but I'm learning to be ok with it. I was also up a pound today and trying really hard to be ok with that too. Overall, not my favorite day, but it ended alright and I got a couple good deals at TJ Maxx!!!!

As for my run, I'm glad I go back for more therapy tomorrow. This IT band thing is KILLING me!!! The foam roller is now my nemesis and I'm having a love/hate relationship with it. Mostly hate...

Praying I can go for my long run on Saturday/Sunday (depends on weather and a few other factors) and still make a decent time at the race the following weekend.

pants loose always a great thing!

Verlander is awesome, though I did go to a cubs game this year (against atlanta) and had a great time (and the cubs one) - funny story is- hubby while driving out of chicago to detroit said- who would ever chear for the cubs when you could bet a sox fan

the day we drove back into chicago, we went from Geneva train station into the city and hubby saw soe cubs fans- he then said- hey we could go to the cubs game  we had a great time too- so I guess he has changed his attitude a bit- but is still a tigers fan

now as for the blackhawks- I can cheer for them, after all, like the wings, they are one of the original teams afterall, been to a game even, I just can't cheer for them if they are playing the wings

er the cubs WON- seriously what is wrong with my english lately - yesterday I wrote that my muscles were soar instead of sore!

so I planned a walk for outdoors yesterday but then neighbor came over (wish I could get her to walk with me but she works nights and the only time she has with her husband is from about 6pm when he gets home to 9pm when she leaves for work)

anyhoo- I did Leslie Sansone- 3 mile indoor express something or other (it is an old one, based on her hair style, but new to me) and used the resistance stretchie band

tonight I have a date with Jillian but tomorrow I will get in an outdoor walk and possibly a bike ride- weather permitting- I bought a new bike seat while in the US and am itching to install it on my bike- I have no biking skills but am hoping that if my seat is more comfortable I can ride for longer and improve that

Nikster- sorry about your run! I hope your weekend goes better

Thanks, Jen... today's run did go a little better. I had another torture, I mean therapy session with the chiro yesterday so I was ready to try my long run. I wasn't sure how far I'd actually make it, so I went out and did 5 miles, came home and stretched really good and felt good, so I went back out and did another 6. So I ended up with 11 out of the 12 I had on my schedule. I can live with that! It was getting really tight, which may have been partially from the dropping temps, so I didn't want to push it too far. Had it been race day (next weekend!!!) I would have pushed through after stretching some more, but not today.

Overall this week has been crazy. I overdid calories more than once and gained a pound at my weigh in... not exactly my favorite thing, but it's ok. Friday my friend is driving down (9 hours) to spend the weekend with me and run the half marathon with me and I'm so excited!!! We will go out for a big pasta dinner to carb load Friday night and race on Saturday. Not making plans for after that, just going to wait and see what we feel like. May sit around and watch movies, or we may want to go out... who knows!!! We were college roomies, so for sure we have a lot to catch up on either way!!!!

Hope you all have a great weekend. I get to sing my praises with the band at church tomorrow and then a short easy run sometime during the day (2-3 miles) just to stretch the legs. Other than that, we are cleaning the house in prep for my visitor!!!! Oh, and TOM is due to arrive before the weekend... oh goody! Just in time to have cramps all weekend while I run! Yippee!!!!

Congrats on your last training run Nikster! I'm running a 1/2 tomorrow, but just as a pacer for some fellow runners (1st race for most of them). My "real" race is in 5 wks.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but use caution at your pasta feed. First, best to stick with the types of food you have eaten the night before a long run during the training season - you never know what kind of GI distress might occur on race day :embarassed: . Second, thoughts about carbo-loading have changed over the years. The current recommendation is to eat some extra carbs/calories for about 2 days prior (i.e. 300-400 daily in small increments for 2 days prior to race rather than 600-800 the night before) as your muscles and organs are better able to absorb them for use on race day. Flooding your body the night before doesn't really give your body enough time to absorb the nutrients, more likely these calories will give you a less-than-desirable result on weigh-in day.

By all means, keep the pasta feed if you wish for the social aspect  , just wanted to pass those words of wisdom along to you.

No, it's all good, I've been eating pasta quite often on Friday nights before my training runs and I'm planning on carb-ing up more even on Thursday. I'll see what my friend wants, but a plate of pasta for me sounds divine!!! Plus I'm planning on an early supper, we need to hit the sack to be up early after all!!!!
