Grandma? Grams? . . .Gramalicious?
Options
I have been given the best news ever . . .my son and his wife are due to have their fist baby this April (it is my first granchild) and they asked me what they want my grandchiold to call me. Mind you, I am 43 and feeling a bit too young to be called "Grandma".
Do any of you have unique/fun names you either call your own grandma, or perhaps you are a grandma with a unique, hip name your grandkids call you. . . your suggestions/ideas are welcome!

No really.... I like Mimi too. Congrats!
My mom likes to be called G ma. lol It doesn't sound right to me, but whatever makes her happy. Mimi sounds best.0 -
Thank you! Mimi is pretty. . . And the nickname of my daughter Amelia.
I like gram or gran maybe. Definitely NOT granny.0 -
GILF!!
No really.... I like Mimi too. Congrats!
LOL, love it, but I don't think they will like it. . .hehe:devil:0 -
I know a NuNu and a Nonnie too0

My grandmothers were both just plain "Grandma" but my dad's stepmother was "Grammy" to us. My mom goes by "Nana". My mother-in-law, also pretty young when we presented her with her first grandson, chose "Gigi", an alternative spelling for G.G. Her name is Georgene, so G.G. is short for "Grandma Georgene".0

Congratulations! :flowerforyou:
I'm older but I like being called Grandma. My youngest grandson (he's 6) calls me Gram. I don't know where he came up with that. It's cute though.0 -
My cousin says he's not a Grandpa. He's a G-Daddy.
Anyway, I've heard of grandmothers calling themselves Glam-ma.0 -
I am Grandma or Gramma. My mom is Gigi ( for Great-grandma). My husband Is Grampa or Grumpa, which is funny because he is not a grumpy person. The grandkids just think it is funny.:laugh:0

Alot of times.... the kids call you what you want. I am "granny".... I didn't choose that. At first I was "Bama" which I kinda liked. My two year old grand d would not call me anything at all.... for the longest time. She had names for our huge extended family....and I got all the hugs and kisses and cuddles, just no name. Then FINALLy, I got "Gee"....(Like Bee) and now, she's copied the older cousin and calls me Granny. In the long run, the name doesn't matter at all!!!
One of my grandmothers was "Gram" so that reminds me of a little old lady..... the other was "GiGi"... but I think that was grandmother in another language!0 -
My mother in law felt the same way, though she was 54 when my first was born. She did NOT want to be grandma. Anywho, her name is Pam, so my kids call her GramPam. Just a thought. Good luck and congrats.0

I have a Grandma and a Nana0
-
I kind of like the sound of Gramalicious- I might stick with that
My kids call my mom - maw maw
They call their other grandma - Granny
But if you don't mind I think I will steal Gramalicious for my future grandchildren....haha0 -
Love some of these! Nonnie is cool because I don't hear it often. Love Gigi too!
My daughter Mimi calls my husband's mom Oma--she's 100% German . . .but wouldn't want to steal it :noway:
My husband, who is some years younger than I, wants to be called G-Dizzle! LOL0 -
Mimi, Yia-Yia (Greek, pronounced ya-YA).
Not suggesting this one, but my eldest named my mother "gwana" when he tried to say grandma. My dad (divorced from her) has, ever since, referred to her as "guano" (bat poop), not to her face, of course  .0 -
My ex-MIL is known as Nanny. Funnily enough because everyone has the 'y' added to the end of the 'name'...you know...mommy, daddy, nanny...ect. My ex FIL became Poppy because my daughter thought he should be called Poppy instead of Papa.0
-
Congratulations!! My daughter calls my mom and my MIL "MomMom" and my grandmother "GG"0
-
I called my mom's parents MiMi and PiPi and my dad's parents I call them grandma and grandpa (often times it's G-pa, cuz he's cool like that)
My nieces call my parents (their grandparents) YaYa and G-paCongrats!
--edit after I saw you don't want to feel old lol and that my mom/dad were young when their first granddaughter was born so they love being called yaya and gpa and not grandma/grandpa so they don't feel old lol0 -
Nana?0
-
My neices and nephew call my mom Gammi !0
-
Congratulations! I am older then you, 51 and have 8 grandchildren, nothing like it! Our oldest is 11, so I was about your age when she was born, I loved/still love hearing, "Oh, you look way to young to be a Grandma!" But I am weird like that! Anyway, whatever you decide to be called, enjoy!0
-
Thank you all for the congrats and well wishes. . . I am wicked excited, if u couldn't tell
I really like your suggestions! I think I read somewhere that Lola means grandma in another language. . .but I think that one would make "Copacabana" run thru my head every time. . .0 -
We called my paternal grandma Grammy. My maternal grandma died when my mom was a kid, we refer to her as Grandma. My mom has already stated that she will be a Mimi.
Mega congrats.0 -
Congrats!! and nice kids that they'd give you a choice!!! I told my parents that when I have kids they will be called "Slagathor" and "Pasghetti"0
-
my mom was the same way when i made her a grandma at the ripe old age of 37....she goes by g-ma, both my kids have always called her that and she is the only one that gets that title any other grandmothers in their life have jsut the normal grandma title, it fits perfectly and i cannot imagine my kids calling her anything else.0
-
My son doesn't call anyone grandma. My mom is nanna, my grandmother is grammy (also used by all other great grandchildren) and even my stepmom got in the mix with mema.
Come to think of it, I'm not even sure my son knows what a grandma is. :laugh:0 -
congratulations! never gonna forget when my mom became a grandma! awe. my kids call their grandma's 'grandma cindy' and ' grandma julie'. sooo.. everyone's different.0
-
Congratulations!!
Sometimes the kids decide for you... My Aunt and Uncle are Nana and Bumpy to their grandkids because that's the way they could pronounce Grandma and Grandpa when they were itty bitty and it stuck!
A co-worker is Gigi but sort of by mistake. Her mother was supposed to be Gigi (as a cute abbreviation of Great-Grandma) but when her grandson heard it, he decided she was Gigi. You just never know!
Another cute story, sort of unrelated... My mother was dubbed Lala by my cousin's youngest. She wasn't Mommy and she wasn't Grandma and Great Aunt Marilyn was just too much to try to say so he decided her name was Lala. This was around the same time the Telletubbies were coming out so we latched on to that and got her a bunch of trinkets with the little yellow one.0 -
you know what the best thing is? when the child makes up the name for you and it sticks!!
like i was calling my MIL grandma cause she hates gran or granny or anything like that so i just stuck with the tried and true and now my son who is two couldnt get his Gs down and calls her meemaw...and its stuck and it will forever be her name.
on a side note, i used to call my grandmother "gammas" and it morphed into G...i really miss G. she was a fantastic lady. im sure you will be just as fantastic of a grandma...its not the name, its what it means and that's the special part of it all.0
