I use some text speak or slangy speech just to be quirky sometimes. Otherwise, it drives me nuts too! And whats with all conversations being surface level conversations. You can only talk about your day or what youre watching on tv so much. TALK to me. Tell me about you. What makes you tick. Your inner workings. I find that fascinating. The rest is filler and boring!

    bt I undRstNd wot U R saying
^^^ This is what I don't understand. I see people use a mixture of capitalization and lower case within a single word. What's that about? It seems like a lot more work than it's worth, and defeats the purpose of abbreviating.

I don't care about text speak and abbreviations in text messages, etc., but like someone else said, it's important to be able to recognize the appropriate time and applications for how to communicate.

I'm much more sensitive to ignorance than I am to creative shortcuts. At least the shortcuts have their place.

And honestly? I learned how to type using the actual, correct spellings of words and it totally slows me down if I have to stop and think about how to abbreviate or txt-speak anything! I type pretty close to 80 CWPM spelling everything out on a keyboard...not sure about my smartphone.
