I give them away to friends who are plus sized that are not in the mindset just yet to begin this journey or donate to goodwill sometimes, unfortunately one of the people I donate clothes to is a 15 year old girl who is around 240 lbs pretty much prediabetic already

As soon as something is too big, I give it to my housekeeper. She takes them and donates them to her church. I don't let myself keep bigger clothes around.

After going from a size 52 suit to a 42...48 pants to an approaching 32, I learned that you can cut down a suit 3 x's, until your pants have 1 pocket over the *kitten*...I am cutting down my third round of suits right now. The poor beat up, constantly altered suits I no longer wear --) donate, donate, donate.

I am glad you ran this thread..it reminded me that I have about 20 white dress shirts to donate, neck sizes 22-24...I now wear a 16 3/4 neck.

I used to give them to My mom ( she used to just sneak my old clothes from my sell bags anyways lol) or the consinement stores for money and anything that was to beat up I throw away . I don't have much clothes now that I'm losing weight and most are already from when I was smaller a year ago and are very tight or I hope to fit again , the rest are new and could fit me for the next 50 pounds I lose,

Hahaha it's actually kind of funny. My girlfriend was super super tiny at 5'6'' and about 110 pounds and had pretty tiny clothes to match I could never dream of fitting into. Meanwhile I was just about bursting out of my bigger sized clothes. I've lost some weight and can fit into her size clothes now, so she's passed a bunch to me she wasn't using so I don't have to buy new clothes as I'm still losing... and meanwhile she put on a few pounds to a more reasonable weight for her size and I was able to pass some of my clothes to her in return. It's the circle of clothes.

I love this question. The following is a quote from my success story blog.

"I am stationed in Japan, like I said, and on March 11th we had a very
devastating earthquake as most people know. It was terrifying, but the
details of that are for another blog. I mention it here because we started
collecting donations on our base. I knew that basically none of my clothes
fit me any more. (I mean not even close. My clothes fell off me. I went from
    a size 18/20, 2XL to a 6, small. I also went from a 40D to a 34B.) I went
through every article of clothing that I owned and started bagging up all of
my clothes. I have seen many posts here on the MFP message boards about what
to do with your “fat” clothes. For me, it wasn’t hard. It wasn’t even a
decision. I knew I was going to get rid of all of them. Even before the
earthquake, I was going to donate them or give them away. I knew they were
going to be leaving my house. Even the ones that I liked. Which by the way,
as a fat person, why is it that I liked any of the clothes that I had. The
only reason that I liked anything that I wore was because I thought that it
made me look not as fat. Why would I possibly want to keep that. I wanted
to reward my new self with new clothes. Now, my uniforms are VERY expensive
to replace at the rate I was losing weight. ONE uniform costs me $120 to
replace complete with patches. I have about 16 different uniforms not
including all of our uniform coats and jackets. But, even with my old
uniforms, I gave them away. I barely even thought twice about it. I didn’t
want the reminders of my depression in my house anywhere. Not in a bag in
storage, not anywhere. I donated my civilian clothes to the earthquake
victims and gave my uniforms away. I swear I couldn’t get rid of them fast
    enough."

The ones that cost a bit more or have a desirable 'label' I would stick on ebay (most of them are from there anyway) to get a few pounds back to buy more, some go to charity shop and rest go to school who can 'sell' the clothing by weight for school funds

I don't know yet. A big part of me wants to just hide them away in a cupboard in case I get fat again. I know it's not a good way to think, and I might be seeing myself up for failure, but I have lost and re-gained SO MANY times that, as much as I tell myself this time is different, I can't help but doubt it a little :( I will probably just keep most of the tops either way. I don't mind baggy clothes.

I get over this way of thinking then I will certainly donate some but I will probably have to sell some too or I will never be able to afford new clothes! I also have some clothes I love which I may try to get altered to fit.

I usually go to dressmaker and constrict my clothes
  • Take them to a consignment shop. You can buy new-to-you clothes with the money from selling your old clothes.

Whatever you do don't keep them. I have kept them in the past only to grow back into them. You can write off $4,999.00 a year from donations to goodwill. I also have given away a lot of clothes in the past few months.

I am holding on to my size 60 suit. Down to a size 48 now.
  • I'm still wearing all my fat clothes! 6lb off so far tho and only a week in......... so in a few months time, I reckon my gorgeous boy rats are gonna be loving all their new home made tunnels, ladders, bridges and nesting materials ;D...I'm gonna keep 1 pair of my fattest jeans just to compare, and keep me on the straight and narrow.

I donated most items and I also consigned some as well. When consigning, I was able to build up an account so I could buy clothes at smaller sizes during my weight loss journey.

I would say go to this site called bookoo dot com and locate your area and sell them on there! its much easier than EBAY because you dont have to ship, its better than Craigslist because its kinda catered to military bases so its more safe!

I dont really have any FAT clothes because last time I lost weight I gifted them to my sister in law and i bought all new size 16 and 14. So now i am in the 14s really good but i still swap into my 16s sometimes! so until i get to a size 12 i will hold onto them! I havent been able to shop anywhwere but Lane Bryant and Ashley stewart in a while so everything is name brand but i dont care what name is on it as long as its CUTE!

Now my NSV is a pair of pants i bought from The Limited about 5 years back when I had lost weight unintentionally, they are a size 12 cassidy fit!!!!!!!!!!! When I get back into those...................Im going to go on a SPREE! New everything! I already wear a Limited L tops due to my upper half being so much smaller than my bottom portion so a M top from there and a 12 bottom would have me ecstatic!

I've given a lot to charity, but now some of my "investment pieces" are falling off me, I've started selling on eBay. I have to afford the smaller replacement clothes somehow!

Thank you!! It's amazing what can happen when you actually listen to your doctor. He told me I would have to lose weight in order to stop feeling like a human pin cushion (testing 6x a day and insulin 4x a day). So, I changed my life. I will always be a diabetic but my doc said at my last appointment that I am no longer "classified" a diabetic. My A1C has been consistently in range. Woohoo!!! I am living proof that it can happen and try to share my experiences with as many as I can.

I agree with everyone who says don't keep them! I use Freecycle to give things away, it is a Yahoo group. See if there is one in your area.

I usually give to the Salvation Army, but with all the flooding that's happened here in Northeast PA, I'm going donate them that will GIVE the clothes to those in need, not sell them.

( I realize that the money earned from the Salvation Army goes to help needy people, and helps provide jobs for those in need. I'm not saying Sally's is a bad thing. )

If the clothes are expensive or specialist (Like, custom made or extra long) I sell them on Ebay if they are in good condition.

Other clothes I pass onto friends/ family.

Clothing that's 'well loved' (or just plain- 'what was I thinking') gets recycling.
