Somebody walks on my property, and buries money in my back yard? I'd consider it a gift. Case closed. It certainly wasn't lost, it's most likely illegally gained. I'd probably donate half of it to charity and keep half.

buried in the back yard... hmmmm first automatic response is turn it in. wait it out, then get it guilt free. I can imagine a scenario of an older person, not trusting banks burying their money in multiple places around the yard. They pass on, family sells the house. Not sure of the legal ramifications, but morally I think it belongs to the heirs, of course they would need to provide some evidence to support that theory.
...and that's yet another reason I love you!

I'd turn it in. You never know what that money is attached too. but if it is buried in a yard it can't be good.

While I agree that morally you should, of course, hand it in I would be troubled.

That amount of money would completely change my life, I have a lot of debt and am in financial trouble at the moment so the weight off would far outweigh the moral deficit, especially if I'd lived there a while and it was safe to assume it's been forgotten about or was very likely ill gotten gains anyway.

That said, those same facts would also suggest it won't be claimed so if I did hand it in, I would probably get it back too (with a clear conscience) as that is the law in the UK.

Honest people very rarely move money in duffle bags.
If it was in my yeard its mine, in the street I miht return it because someone MAY have legiitamately lost it or it could help solve a crime.

What if you were the one who had lost the money or buried it? Would you want someone to be honest and turn it in? I would

    exactly.

Why on earth would someone bury 150k in a garden? On my property? Do something as silly as that and you will lose it. Why not use a bank?
