My weight'll fluctuate anywhere from 5-10lbs over the course of a day. Your best best is to weigh yourself first thing in the morning before you consume anything , at least then its somewhat consistant.
  • About 3 lbs
  • my weight fluctuates anywhere from 2-4lbs in a day! Remember its more than just the number!!

I don't have problems wiht salt specifically (I flush it quickly and easily) but throughout the day I'd say 2-3 lbs fluctuation sounds about right. i don't weigh myself literally every morning and evening but I've seen maybe as high as 4 lbs of fluctuation.

I've been thinking about changing my weigh in time, right now its "as soon as I get home from work" but anytime I go out to eat or something before work it totally messes that up.

In the morning I weigh in around 202. Right before I go to bed I'm about 210 ish.
I hate it. But I can't seem to stop stepping on the scale!

It's normal for body weight to fluctuate up to 5 pounds from day to day.

I've had fluctations between 4-8lbs. Especially after a heavy lift day I will be up quite a bit. Sodium, inflamation, types of food comsumed all make a difference. I weigh once a week now or I go nuts!

I've seen 5 - 7 pounds before depending on so many variables I can't figure them all out.

You know, I've always been curious about all these type of replies- weighing up to 10 pounds difference over the course of the day. My body must be very strange, most times I've let curiosity get the better of me and checked my weight at night I've weighed less than half a pound difference from the morning (often exactly what I weighed in the morning) and by morning I'll weigh the same again or maybe a touch lower since I am losing weight. But always I am less than a pound difference between morning and night, and hardly ever even get close to a pound difference. The only exceptions are when I've really eaten horrendously- tons of sodium, tons of fat, at least double or more my recommended MAINTENANCE calories. That veeery rarely happens so most days I weigh the same morning, noon and night, how odd.

I'm sure it's not a liquid thing either, I drink at least 1.5 liters per day so it can't be my body is just holding onto the same exact amount of water...

There really is no reason to freak out, becuase no one can tell the difference when you weight 200 or 210. Mine fluctuates about 5-10 lbs. The more salt you have, the more your body will hold onto the weight. Detox your body is the best way to lose a few extra pounds, so eat clean. And don't worry about weight, in the end people don't recognize weight loss as much as they notice inches coming off your body and the loss of body fat.

I would say you are lucky. I drink 4+ liters a day, plus coffee plus, a few seltzers and if I eat too much sodium, boom through the roof. I'm 315 currently and i'm sure once I get closer to goal the fluctuations will shrink too (hoping).

I weigh myself a lot because I think it's interesting and my weight fluctuates generally by 2, sometimes 4.

ok but what I want to know is WHY do we weigh less in the morning then we do at night? The food you ate is still there, the water is still there for the most part. why do we weigh between 2-5 lbs less in the morning? Where is it going?

This topic is fascinating to me for some reason. I find that after being on my feet for 8-12 hours at work, when I get home in the morning I'm generally 3 lbs. heavier. By the time I wake up, I'm almost back to normal. It's so weird. I don't generally like to weigh myself after work...it's discouraging...LOL

Things take awhile to digest. Heck, some can take upto 6-8 hours to completely get through your system. You weigh less in the morning because most people get 6-8 hours of sleep, and don't eat right before bed, so you will see 8-10 hours of not having food or drinks. So your body will be slighly dehydrated and your won't have any food in your stomach. Also, keep in mind your body works hard while you are sleeping to re-energize your body and repair your muscle from all the activities during the day. If you wanted to try an exeperience, go 10 hours without eating or drinking and your weight should be similiar to when you woke up (i don't really recommend doing this as you need food and hydration as much as possible, lol).

Does it really? My wife is 5'2" and I can't tell the difference in her weight in the morning vs right after she eats. More than likley, it's more in your head than what others percieve, just my opinion. Take it for whats its worth. But feel free to ask others in your life if they can tell difference in your weight in the morning compared to the afternoon.

nope it is not in my head. My clothes get tighter throughout the day
  • Your body's weight, like temperature, fluctuates during the day. In the morning I weigh what I call my "base weight." Usually by noon I've gained around 3-5 lbs depending on how much water/fluids/food I've consumed. Then it stays that way throughout the day often until I go to bed, where maybe it will go down one pound.
    It's super natural and normal!
