Had a high end of moderate sized binge today so I checked out of curiousity, 7lbs from this morning. If you go by the whole 3500cals=1lb, though, at least 2 of those pounds are bound to stick for a while :(

well my example - I weigh myself daily just to check and yesterday morning I was 162.5 ! (commence happy dance!). A few hours before bed ( maybe 8?) I weighed myself for shigs and gittles and saw 170. This AM I woke up, did my biz in the restroom, and weighed in AGAIN at 162.5 (more happy dance!) I've seen my weight go up as little as 2pounds to as high as 8pounds. No big deal to me, to be honest.

it's all water weight/food I've consumed/sodium. Doesn't bother me at from 7AM on.. Only ones that matter are my morning checks but the only ones that REALLY matter are my Friday mornings (that's when I log on mfp!)

You know, I've always been curious about all these type of replies- weighing up to 10 pounds difference over the course of the day. My body must be very strange, most times I've let curiosity get the better of me and checked my weight at night I've weighed less than half a pound difference from the morning (often exactly what I weighed in the morning) and by morning I'll weigh the same again or maybe a touch lower since I am losing weight. But always I am less than a pound difference between morning and night, and hardly ever even get close to a pound difference. The only exceptions are when I've really eaten horrendously- tons of sodium, tons of fat, at least double or more my recommended MAINTENANCE calories. That veeery rarely happens so most days I weigh the same morning, noon and night, how odd.

I'm sure it's not a liquid thing either, I drink at least 1.5 liters per day so it can't be my body is just holding onto the same exact amount of water...

I find the less you weight the less of a difference there is from morning to night
  • This is why most people encourage you to always weigh yourself at the same time every day. This ensures that you aren't seeing wild (and discouraging) fluctuations. I think most recommend first thing in the morning, before breakfast, but after your first bowel movement.

Otherwise, stay off that scale! You don't have to weigh yourself multiple times in a day or even every day of the week! Unless your scale measures ounces, you aren't going to notice differences that frequently. I mean, if your (realistic) target is no more than 2 lbs/week, you aren't going to notice a handful of ounces per day.

I like to weight first thing, but sometimes I don't go to bathroom until after I have had breakfast, then I think I'll be heavier cos I ate breakfast.

On weigh day I take a dulcolax the night before and I usually wake up around 5-6am needing the toilet, then I weigh after.

Strangely on my body fat scales I get an higher reading first thing in morning than I do at night but its always less than the digital scales usually be about 5 lbs.. though I have had a 1 stone and even 2 stone difference. like once i got 10 st something on body fat scales and 12stone 5 and three quarters on the digital one!

I wish I knew for sure if the body fat scale was the right one, but as I think I'm fat I always go with the higher number on the digital scale.. I figure the body fat number must not include water as it shows it as a seperate percentage.... so is that my weight without the extra water? (although I get a different number every time I get on and off whereas the digital ones are usually the same if I get straight back on)
  • My weight'll fluctuate anywhere from 5-10lbs over the course of a day. Your best best is to weigh yourself first thing in the morning before you consume anything , at least then its somewhat consistant.

    ^^ this

I've just learned not to weigh myself at night

About 2-6, really depending on my dinner and how much water I've had!

I occasionally step on the scales in the evening just out of curiosity, and I'm usually between 3 and 6 pounds heavier than that morning.

I've figured it out! My weight only goes up about 1lb throughout the day if I take a potassium vitamin

3 to 5 lbs here. I can also weigh in the am and then go pee and come back and I weigh a pound less. Very strange

I'm in a weight loss challenge and we have weigh ins twice a week and it can cost mo.ey so I sometimes do strange things. Here's one thing I've noticed, I'll wake up at 430 go pee and weigh and go back to bed. An hour later I've gained weight. Haven't eaten or drunk anything no exercise that would have induced swelling. Nuthin. A pound heavier once. .6 pounds a different time.usually its lower. My friend has had the same thing happen. Bodies are just weird.

What the what?! Are you saying you ate 7000calories OVER your daily calorie expenditure? That takes some doing and would be hella more than a "moderate binge"

    Yes, 7k over.

Thanks, but no, to me that is moderate. My binges are often significantly more. I considered it moderate because of the way I felt and how I felt strong that I was able to stop myself after that much and not continue on, even though I really wanted to. I have an eating problem, it happens, I'm working on it.

Haven't had one since that day.
