Cardio Machine Calories... What a crock!

the other day I did cardio on the arc trainer; the machine said I burned 600 calories, HRM said 300. Same thing with jogging on the treadmill; machine said I burned close to 600 calories. Nope. HRM showed right at 300. Don't ever go by what the machine tells u as far as calorie burn! No wonder I lost weight slower in the past; I was eating exercise calories that I never earned!!! Well at least I'm on track now...I would totally recommend an HRM. I love my new polar ft7; Im thinking about taking it out of town for an impromptu romantic weekend. Shhh....don't tell him.

Lame... but way to get on track!0

Amazing, huh? I love my FT7 too. Though surprisingly the Octane elliptical, if I enter my weight and age, comes out pretty close but the others WAY overestimate, sometimes almost double.0

I found that it is because most machins are set at a default weight - my gym is set at 155 for weight but I can change it manually - you have to do it each time so it is kind of a pain0

Yep! I had always heard that about machines so I never tracked it exactly and didn't eat exercise calories, just ate when I was hungry. I have had the Polar FT4 for about a month and I love it! Wouldn't hurt it's feelings by exercising without it0

lol. that's weird, my exercise machine will tell me i burned 200 when my HRM tells me i burned double that, someone's wrong. lol just hope it's not my HRM0

Brilliant, isn't it ?
"Normally I have to work my *kitten* off just to burn off a cheeseburger. But with the new XYZ-2000, I can burn off 1000 calories in no time !"0 -
This is one reason that I'm fine not getting an HRM: When it comes to calories burned, I totally believe that "ignorance is bliss". :blushing:
If I ever stop losing by eating my incorrect exercise calories, I may change my mind, but I'm fine losing at a slower rate if it means that I get to eat more.0 -

I agree. I've lost 24lbs believing in my Arc Trainer at the gym and so I'm going to stick with it:happy:

*snicker* I suspect that I'm in this category, too. I am WAY over the average weight range, so that is probably part of it.0
