Do you really care about starving children?
It's not a debate. Just want to see how many actually do care. IMO, people can "feel bad" for them, but if you really cared, you'd do something to help stop it. Whether it's donating money, donating time, volunteering at soup kitchens, working as a volunteer in an organization that fights against it. Just like weight loss, if it's important to you, you'll do what needs to be done.
I send money to "Feed the children" each month. It's not much, but I've seen first hand (in the Philippines) to how hopeless it is for children who may eat just once a day.

I'm not sure feeding the children really solves the problem.....
I care, in an abstract way I guess, just not enough.0 -
I must say, and Im ready for the abuse about it. I do not really care. As for my opinion countries where people just continue to have children even though the adults are starving themselves, are beyond any of my help. These people dont seem to understand that having children will not benefit them. These people and children have no quality of life.0

I think that if we all quit eating meat there would be plenty of food for people all over the world. The amount of food we feed the cows alone could feed the world twice.0

It always turns into a debate if you mean for it to be that way or not. I'm not religious in any means but this fits into god made it that way for a reason, if he meant for every single person to survive then humans would be invincible. over population happens everywhere in animals and humans, and when things are over populated something happens to make the number more realistic.
I donate Money monthly but it doesn't really matter. Donate to one place and 20 more will be at your door beggin0 -

I sympathise but don't really care or as you say I would be donating some form of resource. I do give to other charities that I care about and believe in.
Oh and I never let my own children starve lol.0 -
Heartless as it may seem, no. I don't care about tarving people in other countries. Whether they're children or adults. I care about my own country more and I'd rather my money go towards making my own country a better place, so that my cousins and eventually my own children can be sure of safety and security. I also don't support most charities, especially not one that have the disposable income to advertise on television. My fiancé ued to do some of the account for one of thoe charities and that whole "Please donate just £2 a month" line is BS did you know that next to none of that goes on whatever it i that just £2 a month can help with? No, it goes on tv adverts, manning phone lines, paying third party companies and goodness know what else.
I care about improving my area and the area my family live in, and donating money to a charity is rarely helpful. I get off my as and I make myself known in the area, I participate in fundraising events where 100% of the money goes to what it's supposed to because everyone involved is volunteering. I help out with my neighbours and look out for their children. I take care of my own back garden before I go meddling in other peoples, so to speak.
P.S my S button is broken and I can't be bothered to proof read :P0 -

That's a Noble Cause, and I really care about it. But I have found in LIFE that one can not take on every cause or they will be stretched sooo thin that they are NO Good to anyone. So I choose a Cause where I feel I can contribute more and more passionate about...HOMELESSNESS. Everyone should choose where they can BEST Help.0 -
The problem with organizations like Feed the Children is that the percentage of what they use to actually feed children and what they put towards "administrative fees", aka in their pocket. Feed the Children is actually one of the more questionable charities out there, you should check into Save the Children instead if you're looking for your money to actually reach the kids you want to help.
Having said that, I've seen enough of these places get caught with their pants down when it comes to the percentage of money going towards the actual thing they're supposed to be working to help, so yes, while I care about starving children and I do give at canned food drives and things like that, I don't ever just hand over money to any organization. In most cases, you're just paying someone's salary.0 -
Yes I do care. I care about starving people in general. I give every month to the food bank and I volunteer at the soup kitchen here.0

Most commercials I see for starving children are for children in other countries. I don't have money to donate but if I did I would want to donate to places in America. Some people fail to realize that America needs help too.0

Yup, I feel for them, but the focus of my "caring" is on other things.
What are you doing about the whales?
Endangered species?
The parents of the starving children?
Earthquake and tsunami victims?
Education?
I'm glad there are some of us to care for the starving children, some of us to worry about the state of our country's education system, some of us to take care of the homeless - and so on.0 -
collectively, we are smart enough and have resources enough to fix all the major problems we have...
war? We can knock it off, tomorrow, if we decide to.
hunger? solved, the very moment we decide it. we have WAY more than enough food to feed every human. In the US, we pay farmers NOT to grow on their land, so as to control prices and supply. If we truly wanted to feed everyone, we would have ALL available land put to use growing crops.
The trouble is, we don't only just "not care," we have so many powerful people/companies in whose best financial interest it is to keep things as they are. And most individual people feel powerless to do anything, so apathy sets in.0 -

Should a geographical accident of birth prevent a person having the same rights (eg the right to bear children) as those more fortunate?0 -
Honestly? I care about the children in this country. The other countries can worry about their own children...
I have volunteered my time at soup kitchens and I have participated in the Great American Bake Sale that works towards ending childhood hunger in the U.S.
My friend who is a kindergarten teacher in a high poverty area has horrible stories about children not getting enough to eat at home. She buys apples and puts some in kids backpacks to take home. They also give them milk and a snack right before they go home. It is sad but it is a reality. It breaks my heart because those kids can't help themselves. I also think that is why so many families resort to the dollar menu and five dollar pizzas to feed their families as opposed to real wholesome food.
Okay, off my soap box.0 -

Hi there! I couldn't help but chime in - I would think that women living in conditions where their children are literally starving to death would actually ENJOY having the option of not having as many children. In many cases the type of social/economic conditions that lead to starvation are also the same conditions that result in lack of reproductive choices for women. In many cases it's also ignorance, with people thinking it's fine to have as many children as possible because god will provide!
But taking another view - if they do have choices and it's really about rights to have children, that's fine - have 20. But don't be asking me for money to support them.0 -

This is why I like United Way, .$0.93 out of the dollar is used for charity with only a $0.07 overhead, they also use volunteer auditors. Impressive. I have always been heavily involved in volunteering as well, alas, since our move I have not been. I need to get more into it.0 -
I think that if a person can responsible, they should be allowed to have children. But nobody needs eight, nine, or ten kids. More birth control options, whether natural or medical, needs to become available to women in these third-world countries, so they can prevent unwanted pregnancy.0

Should it? Perhaps, depends on opinion.
Does it? Yup.
there's no such thing as "should", there is just what is.
When you and all your relatives and acquaintances are doomed to starvation because of your geographic misfortune, "should" you bring more people into this world so they can starve too?:ohwell:0 -

I feel bad for them but not enough to be sending any significant aid to third world countries. It's like throwing money at a bottomless pit without actually solving the problems that cause the starvation. And then you hear of extremist Islamic groups prohibiting western aid from reaching starving Somalians because it's dirty "Christian" money. umm ok.0

we have the same problem in this country by the way. Only, in those countries the parents actually have more morals and abortions are not allowed. Also, birth control is almost their whole months income, it is not like the U.S. where we can get if free. We are blessed to live in the U.S. and most people, do not realize exactly what goes on in other countries, call it ignorant or uncultured, I call it stupid because you could educate yourself about it especially before you judge.0 -

ouch! I have not heard this. I am sure it can/has happened. Money brings out the ugly in people; I've worked at a bank and seen it first hand. But does that mean that we should stop giving? Perhaps it does, or maybe we need to find more transparent charities?0 -
I guess I can say that I sympathize with them for the needs but no I don't do anything for them. I know it sounds harsh but I have friends and family that have needs that I can assist with before I choose to help strangers or their children especially in foreign countries. I feel as if we need to take care of our own first and thats what I choose to do. I take care of my friends and family first.0

exactly, my point. However most Americans do not realize what other countries go through and what privileges we have. In the countries where birth control is culturally accepted, it is far too expensive to get.0
