    a) W5D2 complete, yup, I inadvertently completed the wrong day! DANG, now I have to do it twice
    b) It was really hard to get through, mostly the last minute and a half
    c) Guess I'll be doing it again. Doesn't make sense to go back to day 1, right??

Hi everyone, sorry for the late update.

    a. W4D3 - Not complete.
    b. I made it about half way through before my calf seized up. My knees didn't feel too good also.

I'm taking the week off and may not continue. My knees are bothering me more and more. Not so much that I can't run through it, but enough that it bothers me to walk up and down stairs now (which wasn't a problem before c25k). I'll probably focus on more low impact exercises and keep working on my nutrition for a while and see if I can both lose some weight and strengthen these knees before coming back to running.

I look forward to seeing the rest of you make it all the way though! :)

Hey! At least you're ahead of the game. Congrats for getting that out of the way!

Dave, sorry to hear that your knees are becoming a problem, and we hate to see you go  Take care and I hope you can pick up where you left off when you start up again. Best of luck to you

Just a thought Dave, What about starting back at wk1 and go through the motions with us!!! I hate to see you leave!

    W5D2: completed 10/11/11 walk 3.5 run 5
This was so hard. The last 8 minutes were killers. I kept looking at the time. Like you Felicia the last minute and a half was torture.
I am nervous about the 20 minutes straight I may have to do this one again!!! I don't believe my endurance is up to 20 minutes yet.

Hi Dave, I hope your knees will feel better. Please take a rest and don't give up yet. Please we can do this together as Tonya suggested try to start back and take fish oil not the capsules but the real oil. I have been taking the Norwegian Salmon oil and it helped me tremoundously.

    a.W5D2 done 10/11 walk 3.1 run 4.5 incline 1%
    b. I came home tired and decided to do it. The first half was ok the 2nd half I kept looking at the time and wishing it will be done any minute.
    c. I think D3 will make us stronger.

One thing that is helping me is doing the calf raise exercise, I try to do it every time.

    a. W5D2 done
    b. The run was fine, but I was very worn out after it was finished. I really wanted the last run to be over sooner!

Thank you all for the encouragement and comments. I'm really disappointed. This was easily the longest I've made it through any diet/exercise program. It was nice knowing exactly what had to be done and when and having a group to share the experience with.

I'm going to take your advice and go back to week 1 and probably do that a few weeks while I work on strengthening/stretching the knees and the calf.

Yasmin, I've been taking Fish Oil caps for a while now (a variety of brands) but haven't tried the straight oil. How much are you taking and are you mixing it with smoothies?

I am going to find a way to make this work! Thank you all again for your support!
  • a. W5D1 completed! walk 3.0; jog 4.5
    b. Wasn't as difficult as I had built myself up to believe it would be. I imaginged that I was a kicked off Biggest Loser contest that was training for the marathon. That helped keep me motivated. ;-)
    c. Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts . . . . . . . . .

Funny, I was thinking that day 3 might kill me ;-) But -- that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger -- Right? What are the calf raise exercises that you do?

    a. W5D3 completed! YaaY!!! I walked 3.5, and jogged 5.2-3, 0% incline. The mileage completed was 1.82 in 20 min!!
    b. It was soooo doable. I just got on the treadmill, and focused on my breathing. I use a focal point, which happened to be a set of weights across the room. My mistake was looking down at the time, realizing that I had 5 mins remaining, that's when it became harder, but I plugged through it!
    c. I'm gonna do it again this week, just to be sure that I'm comfortable with the run.

I know if I can do it, so can you, seriously, it wasn't that bad.

    Dave,
I think it's a great idea to revisit the program from the beginning. We are all routing for you. I'm sure you'll breeze through the first few weeks!!

Yaay Dave, I'm so happy that you are going to continue with the program. I'm taking Carlson Fish Oil with Lemon Taste teice a day, and I take it as it is.

Thanks you guys!! Good luck tonight Tonya!

I know you all can do it and I can't wait to celebrate your successes this week ♥♥♥♥
  • a. W5D2 completed. Walked 3.0; Jogged 4.5
    b. It wasn't too difficult. (I can't believe that I am saying that about an eight minute jog -- The first week I thought I was going to die!) My jogging speed is starting to feel more like a fast walk. I considered increasing the pace, but I don't think that this is the right time for that!
    c. I bought ear buds that are suppose to be for sports. I really focus on my music, and it distracts me when my ear buds fall out, and I spend a lot of time messing with them. It may sound silly, but this is a little thing that I think will help. I'm planning on doing day 3 tomorrow.

w5d3: done job at speed 5
NEVER in my wildest dreams would I have thought I could jog for 20 minutes. I thought about it all day. The first 10 minutes flew by. I laughed when the guy said, "you are half done" I never looked at the time till it said 2:33 left. Then I looked at it again when it said 14 seconds left. I counted down with it at that point!!!!
I checked out next wk. I feel like because I did this the rest of the wks are going to be smooth sailing. I am going to be OPTIMISTIC from this point on.

My one problem I am having and if anyone has any advice please share. My shoulders burn so bad while I run. It usually starts the last 5 minutes every time. When I feel the burn I try to hang my arms to make sure I am not tensing up, but it is so persistent.

    Smiles to all!

Tonya, that's WONDERFUL, glad to hear that it wasn't too bad. It's amazing what we are all capable of, and we seem to be the number one doubters of ourselves. WTG!!!

Regarding the shoulders, I had the exact same problem, but addressed it right away. It's because of our posture and arm position while jogging. Try relaxing your shoulders and running from your core. I felt myself tense up and kept having to place my arms and shoulders a little lower than usual. Give it a try next time, k?

    a.Wk5D3 Done!!!! walked @ 3 jogged 4.5 with .5-1% incline.
    b. I started doubting myself after the 5 min run and my right leg started acting up. I kept telling myself you can do it and if this leg doesn't carry you it is going to kill you. I'm glad I went thru it and it was so worth it.
    c. I'm going to do a bonus run to feel comfortable.

Felicia I'm going to get you!! I was telling myself Felicia said it is not so bad you can do it.
