Thinning hair

Alright, I know most of you probably think this has nothing to do with weight loss. But it does.

I know of people who had gastric bypass and lost a lot of their hair because of the surgery. It had something to do with nutrition. Has anyone else had this problem? If so did you determine what caused it or how to fix the problem? It is really embarrassing when my 64 year old husband had much thicker hair than I do.

Really stressful. I know I am not losing weight too fast. I am trying to do this slow so I will keep the weight off and change how much I eat. Being natural blonde my hair is already thin. :embarrassed:

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Check your protein and vitamin intake. Your hair is made of protein; and vitamins A, C, E, B6, and B12 all play important roles as well. They should all be covered in any multivitamin.

Also as people get older sometimes their bodies can't absorb B12 from food (or pills) as well and they get a deficiency. It causes a lot of problems like poor balance, fatigue, and forgetfulness. It's possible that the thinning hair could be another sign, since B12 prevents hair loss. You might want to ask your doctor to check your B12 levels the next time you have blood work done.
