So.. I know there are a bunch of protein shakes and protein bars and what not, I'm just going to be spending a while at the gym today and would like to know what are good things to eat to re-energize quickly that of course doesn;t have a bunch of sugar and all that...
Thanks!!

  • Hmm never needed to eat at the gym xD

how long are you going to be there? would be better to have some whole foods and not some processed bar.

I like Clif bars. I am not sure of sugar content because that is not an area of focus for me, but 10mg protein, only 240 calories, and actually tastes good, which is rare. Plus, I can do 2 hours of hard high-intensity high heart rate cardio - spin class or elliptical - and not be ready to kill someone to get to food after, lol.

I have a tiny fabric cooler that I throw in my bag with a greek yogurt and small amount of fruit. It has tons of protein, good sugar, and is quick to eat. And it is tasty!

Who eats at the gym? People who know what they're doing.
  • OP, you don't need to eat anything. However with consideration to how much you seem to be doing at the gym.. a high carb snack may be beneficial to your gym performance. I would suggest something like a banana or standard protein bar or something similar.

But.. why are you doing so much? Seems very extreme.

And how do you classify people that do 3 hours of cardio at the gym?

Ok on a serious note, bring gatorade if you're going to be at the gym for more than an hour.

But as far as three hours of cardio....

I do about 1hr 30min daily mon-fri at the gym ,but Thursdays I kick it up to a few more hours since I'm already pumped from Zumba, plus I don't have my son Thrusdays so I milk it as much as I can to get in that cardio... I really didn't think 3hrs of cardio is excessive...

Question: what makes you think doing that much cardio yields any benefit beyond doing, say, 2-4 hours of cardio per week? Do you think excessive cardio will help you lose fat faster...?

hahahahah!! I love that!!! I'll be taking some gatorade then.... 3hrs of cardio is only once a week. Everyother day I'm there for 1.3 hrs... chill :P

I like to order in pizza.

Be kind, though, and wipe the grease off of the machines before moving on.

Still incredibly excessive. It's downright counter intuitive to fat loss goals, quite frankly.

If you're really trying to get results, I would suggest upping your workouts to atleast 120 min Mon-Sat plus your Zumba class. Your body only needs one rest day a week. Also, you should really pile up the protein. I suggest a snack before hitting the gym. Some nutbutter on toast or a protein shake would do wonders for you!

Just as an aside, you may wish you refrain from using someones physique as a means of determining their knowlege about nutrition. I don't mean any offense by this comment, it's just that it's far too common for people to assume "hey that guy is jacked, I should get my nutritional knowlege from him".

    Generally not a good plan.

    Trolling?

That will probably hinder progress. There's a reason why marathon training has been seen as one of the worst forms of weight loss routines. Excessive cardio is as likely (if not more) to be detrimental to fat loss as it is to be conducive to it.

Still too much. I would read the links posted above. You aren't really helping yourself

do you do any strength training? have you considered adding it in to get results with less time spent?
