Painting toddlers nails

i have. 19 month old, and I have been painting her toenails for awhile now. Well yesterday I decided to paint her fingernails too Nd let me must say....

I felt like a toddlers in tiara mom for doing it :sad:

I paint my daughter's nails. She's 5. BUT, I didn't start until she was old enough to ask me to do it. She picks out her color and I paint them for her. Because IMO, it's her body, and her fashion statement. Not mine. I don't think there's anything inherently WRONG with painting a toddler's fingernails, I just don't see the point.

It's the only way my 2 year old will let me cut her nails. If I get to cut them, she gets them painted. Works like a charm

i try not to do my little ones fingernails since she always put her hands in her mouth but i have been doing her toes since she was like 12 months old. she loves it!

:laugh: I paint my little girls nails all the time, been doing it since she was about 18 months or so. Even do the white tip thing with them when she's having a good patience day. I used to ask her if I could paint them, now she asks me if we can change the color/design like every other day...I created a girly monster.

They only way I can cut my 2yr olds nails, is if I paint them hot pink, every time. I have tried to fool her with clear, but she could not be fooled! lol! I have been painting them since she was probably a year old.

Exactly what the PP said-only way I can get my 3 year old to let me clip her nails is to play "beauty salon" and she loves it. Nothing at all wrong with that!

I have a 3 year old who keeps asking me to paint her nails because she watches me do mine. (I think her 15mo old sister wants it done too.) I told her we would do it for her birthday, thankfully she forgot! I think I am trying to avoid this whole growing up thing. :ohwell:

I paint both of my daughter's nails .. my oldest asks for it and the baby thinks she's grown so she has to have it too.. They're 3.5 and almost 2.

I was painting mine and she kept putting her hands up and saying "mine peesh? Peesh?!" lmao so I did it then she s holding her sippy cup with those pink sparkly nails and I was like uhhhhhhhh

I must be missing this female chromosome, I cannot for the life of me understand why people want to paint their nails. If your hands and feet are soft and healthy looking I can't imagine taking the time to put colour on them. Makeup hides flaws and accentuates features, highlighting fingers and feet? Doesn’t seem like an asset worth pointing out, they are utilitarian not assets but then again I guess you could argue breasts are the same for nursing mothers.

Are the fumes ok for a 19 month old? Be sure you aren't using acetone nail polish remover, very toxic.

My daughter is two and I started painting her toenails a few months ago. She saw me doing mine, then said she wanted some "pinks" too. :happy: So now whenever she wants her toenails painted, she asks for "pinks". I don't see anything wrong with it, and she gets a kick out of it.

I have friends whose little boys want theirs done too. Why not? It's just colored paint on their toes, no big deal. They just want to copy mom!

I paint my son who is 3.5 his nails With no bite because he bites his nails and he feels left out when I'm doing mine and Natalies toes

I paint outside and I usually don't even use remover, haven't yet. She is so rough and rugged the polish generally wears off after a week or so, probably because I only use one coat too. I used non-acetone to take off her nails last night then she had bath time

I've been painting my daughter's toes since she was around 2 years old. Now she asks for her finger nails to be painted as well & tells me when they need to be redone. It's our girl time. She has 3 brothers.

I did a terrible job but keep this in mind she was sitting on me just like this while I did it. (she's 4)

I paint my girls toes all the time. The older ones get their finger nails done too. I usually don't paint my 17 mo old's, just because she still puts her fingers in her mouth all the time.
There is nothing wrong with it. I don't use bright red or anything "adult" colored. I usually use a light pink color.

Outside or inside, the chemicals from nail polish seep through your child's nails into her/his blood stream... many of these chemicals cause cancer. Kinda nuts

That was the first thing that came to my mind. My wife has done my daughter's nails, but she would leave her one thumb bare because of she sucked it

I don't have any kids, but I am not a fan of anything like jewelry (earrings) on babies or toddlers or those weird head bands people like to put on their babies... it's just not my taste, and I think babies and toddlers are cute enough au natural. Same goes for nail polish, I guess. But each their own, right?

:laugh: Don't worry, I think it's cute And yes, there are chemicals in nail polish, but they won't cause cancer *rolls eyes.* People have been painting their nails for years, it's totally fine. If the smell is too harsh though, they make nail polish called BonBons, they're like 50 cents a bottle and even smell like different fruits

And the nail polish would have to contain HcL to actually seep into your child's bloodstream, by the way. There are still quite a few layers of skin under the nail, even as a toddler.
