Painting her fingernails is nothing, it is fun, because a toddlers fingers with nail varnish on them still look like a toddlers fingers.

Now (and sorry here is my hobby horse) If you were putting on long acrylic nails then in my opinion you would need to check your behaviour as I would see this as sexualising her. I know I sound a bit serious but it is something I just cannot understand. Why do some parents need to dress their kids like mini (often sexy) adults? no wonder the up and coming generation is full of neuroses about their bodies and appearance they never get to be just kids.

I know this might kick off a lot of angry responses but those pageants creep me out all those babies dressed like adults in false eyelashes and more make up than a prostitute could shake a stick at, is scary. I would not have a problem with them if they were just talent/beauty contests and the children were natural. It is the make up and hair that weirds me out. Like little freaky dolls euuuuch.

I paint both of my kids nails when they ask for it...my son is 5 and my daughter is almost 3. I really don't think the "toxic fumes" they're exposed to for all of 60 seconds is doing them any more damage than, say, being exposed to city air.

As for hiding my flaws...I have short, stubby fingers and toes. Painting them (toes, especially) makes them seem not so stubby.

Agree! It teaches them horrible values as well, like that you have to paint yourself up to be beautiful and that beauty is only on the outside. It's ridiculous.

Oooooh debate time?! Lol how did I know this was gonna happen...

I don't even have her ears pierced. But I feel like it's your kid do whatev. I'm not worried about her getting cancer from nail polish seeping into her blood stream. I actually asked her pedi about painting her toes when she was 9 months old she said it's fine just not fingers until they stop putting them in their mouth because the paint will chip off, etc.

Over here in the UK we are starting to go down the pageant route. A lady has opened a Salon in Essex for children, where they can get pretty much all the beauty treatments that adults get. One little girls that was on the programme wouldn't leave the house without full make up, She was about 7. Another mum bought her little girl a voucher for a boob job that she could use for her 16th birthday, her daughter was about 12 What the hell is that all about.:noway:

Of course it's your choice what you do with your kid. Just my 2 cents... the earrings and head bands are just similar things that came to mind.

I don't see anything wrong with headbands OR ear piercings either, my daughter used to wear the cotton headbands but ear piercing I'm waiting

I just don't like them. Nothing wrong with them per se, but I just don't think they're cute.

When my daughter was about 2 1/2 she asked me to paint her nails. She instisted that I (Dad) do it. Now, I've never painted nails before and those things are very small at that age. Still, I did it because she wanted them painted and I didn't see anything wrong with it.

It's not like it's make up, I think nail polish is a lot more cute and fun than grown up! Unless you're paiting them hooker red and filing them to a point I'm sure it's fine :P

I'm sure you get childrens nail polish too, with less harsh chemicals, which would probably be a good idea

Ok I'm totally appalled at the "coupon for a boob job at 16" thing. Just when you think you've heard it all....People are insane! Poor kid.

Maybe check out Piggy Paint or Priti NYCPolish at ecomom.com. I haven't tried them myself, but both are supposedly non-toxic.

Nail painting is a long way from fake eyelashes and false teeth....face painting and high heels...college tuition priced gowns and disrespectful/ungrateful children

Basically, I think it's a nice way for your daughter to have some "Mommy and me" time. If she's anything like my daughter it won't last long anyway...lol

I paint my 3 yr old toes and fingers. She's my only. Girl so we have to glamorize. Better than putting make up on her right?

    Horrible chemicals in nail polish...
Yup. Piggy Polish is a good alternative to regular polishes. It's non-toxic and it's what I use for my daughter. We went away overnight once and came home to find the babysitter had painted my three=year-olds' finger and toe nails. I truly dislike nail polish on little girls, but I also know that it's not a big enough deal to fight about. We compromised and now I do her toes only.

It's the only way my 2 year old will let me cut her nails. If I get to cut them, she gets them painted. Works like a charm
Why don't you cut them while she sleeps?

She's still in a crib and doesn't nap during the day. It's hard to hold a flashlight and cut her nails - if I turn her light on she wakes up. I wish it was that easy :(
