would you still order it?

I always thought it would be a great idea if restaurants had to not only list how many calories foods on their menu had in them But also how long it would take to Burn Off that many calories!

I was going through my weight loss study notes and found this chart

caloriesburned.jpg

Damn it cut off the rest of the chart! Sorry!!! but the full size photo (with body weights up to 400 lbs) can be found here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Lizzy_Sunflower/view/exercise-equivalents-exercise-and-weight-control-160282

cooked veggies are squishier, so you can pack more of them into the cup than if they were solid/raw

That's why I try to log the food before it goes in my mouth! Lots of times if I see that huge calorie number I won't feel like eating it anymore.

I bet because they shrink when cooked, so 1 cup of cooked veggies is actually a lot more (when it was raw) than 1 cup of raw. Or something. lol

This is a cool post though. I need to remember this next time I want to binge on something stupid.

So it takes 81 minutes to burn off an apple. So deos that mean I have to do an extra 81 minutes of exercise, or as long as I stay with in my calorie goal I am fine???

I am so confused right now. I don't mean to be such a nim whit. I am over whelmed as well my Docs told me yesterday I was malnourished and border line anorexic.

Glad I don't care for Big Macs! On a related note, have you ever seen how many calories are in a DQ Blizzard? The smallest one has something looike 400 calories and a big one with lots of stuff in it is over 1400!!

  • Pretty sure if you walked through McDonald's and took a survey, 100% of the people chowing down would agree the food is fattening and bad for you, so not sure labeling it further is going to help...

Aslong as you stay within your calorie goal, you will be fine. I'm one of those people who thinks that going over calorie goals with an apple is no big deal (as long as the rest of your calories weren't from that DQ Blizzard!).

A 'drink' ie shake contains more calories than a Big Mac?

    That really is shocking

Just eat whatever amount of calories your doctor wants you to eat. Sounds like you need to eat. Good Luck!

Not going to give up eating what I want just because of the calorie count or the amount of exercise I would need to do after eating it. I don't eat fast food enough to worry about it and besides that's just not realistic. In short, eat in moderation and be happy:happy:

I probably shouldn't even post this, but that's actually discouraging me to diet. You mean if I ride my bike for an hour I can treat myself to some wendy's??? I'm all over that!!!!!

It's actually somewhat misleading... people should pay more attention to the quality (or lack there of) of those calories, not the number of them and thus how long it might take to burn them off. Not to mention that a cup of 2% milk is just as "bad" as a 12oz can of coke!!!

    *shakes head*

I actually did that today! I knew we were going to have Chick fil a catered tonight (so no option to order a salad, or grilled sandwich)

It allowed me to structure my day so that I don't go Crazy over my goal AND yes I am eating that brownie for dessert!

I was totally shocked when I looked up that pumpkin latte from starbucks the other week! It had over 400 cals!!!

I poured it out..... I just didn't have the calories to work with that day

I haven't eaten fast food in the last 3 months....and any time I feel remotely like I want it...I think about it for a few minutes and remind myself that the employees usually make the food really poorly on top of it being poor quality in the first place. I'd much rather just run over to the market and grab convenience food there.

I do my pumpkin lattes like this: Grande Non-Fat, No-Whip Pumpkin Spice Latte w/ 2 pumps (of the pumpkin sauce).
That is 195 calories. Normally it comes with 4 pumps of the sauce and it really does NOT need it. Thinking I might get one now lol

Meh, its only an hour or so on the bike... I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure if you get a Big Mac to order a side of fries too.
