What were you eating habits before MFP?

How did you eat before? What was your downfall? Did you even look at calorie content in things?
I work at a major grocery store, and while doing price change overs I was looking at calorie content of things I used to eat. NO WONDER I gained so much weight so quickly - 490 calories for a french bread pizza and I would eat two in a sitting, as well as a "snack" size bag of chips, and a full calorie pop or two. Multiple Hot Pockets as a snack. I also used to make something to eat while cooking. Making a pizza? Chips and salsa while waiting. Somethings in the oven or being delivered? I'll make a sandwich.

About 4 servings of pasta. 3 Tbsp. of butter. inordinate amounts of cheese.
That.
Once or twice a day, everyday.
Seriously.0 -
I ate fast food and frozen meals all the time!! (conveinence) I probably consumed 5000 grams of sodium and no telling how many calories each day!! I never looked or counted calories, until I woke up and realized I was fat!!0
-
i ate pretty much the same as i do now0
-
Mindless munching all day0
-
Beer.. until it was all gone
Pizza.. until it was all gone
This and that.. until it was all gone.
I couldnt ever waste food. It was wrong.
Did I say Beer?0 -
I ate poptarts and whole boxes of cookies in one sitting! I would love Pizza and drink sodas/juices all the time! For a period of time through my last work we would grab a donut every morning. *I thought I was doing well by only grabbing one!* I loved cheese too, except on salads... I hated Cheese on salad0
-
I would eat whatever seemed most delicious at the moment. And I would drink as much beer as possible, and then a pint or two more for good measure. I secretly think that all my success is due to no longer drinking so much beer every day.0
-
probably had one too many cocktails and with it snacks while cooking dinner......
portions were probably twice what i needed......
fast food too often, even at the healthier places....0 -
i ate pretty much the same as i do now
me too..but I'm much lesser quantity.0 -
Oh gosh, the butter. All the butter as often as I could. I would cook with multiple table spoons, a loaf of sourdough bread and butter was a snack.
Tall cans of beer.
Whole boxes of Mac and Cheese.
Vending machine foods all day.0 -

a massive muffin or donut0 -
No breakfast, no lunch first meal would be about 3pm but would drink plenty of coffee prior to finally eating something.
Pheww and when i did decide i was hungry enough to eat i would more than make up for the skipped meals with huge portions, extra snacks, chocolate, plus desert....not to mention the takeaways because i was to tired or couldnt be bothered cooking.
Looking back im surprised i didnt end up bigger than i am now.0 -
Too much full fat dairy. Way big portion sizes at dinner. Pizza. I never ate a lot of instant noodles, but I never realised how many calories they had for so little satiety.0
-
exact same eating habits for the past 4 years except for when I went through a binge episode for 2 months...eating all snacky processed foods.0
-
I mostly didn't eat a lot. I avoided fat and ate "low fat" or "light" versions of everything. I'm sure I ate out too much and restaurant portions will kill you, no matter that you're ordering the lowest fat thing on the menu or even a salad (which can be upwards of 1000 calories!) Despite "watching what I ate", I slowly put on 15 pounds over the past decade mostly because I wasn't active and I'm getting older.0

Breakfast = McDonalds bacon egg & cheese bagel, 2 hashbrowns, 1 large iced caramel coffee - slightly addicted to the breakfast so this was like 4 times a week
Lunch = 2 breaded chicken sandwiches with cheese (I added them up the way I made them at home and they added up to 900 calories) or 2 heaping bowls of cheesy pasta
snacks = all kinds of crap
dinner = (see lunch and snacks), half a large pizza, anything fried, lots of hamburger helper, etc
dessert = big bowls of ice cream smothered in sugar sprinkles
Oh and Lunch often happened twice.0 -
My downfall was WAY overeating, eating out, and gorging at night from boredom.
I would eat huge portions while out to eat because it tasted GOOD. Literally to the point of my stomach feeling like it would explode.
At night, I'd eat just to eat.
Makes me sick now.0 -
For years I ate McDonalds twice a day every single day. For years. Multiple times a week I would eat some other fast food as well. Candy bars all the time, 6 cans of mt dew a day. It was terrible. I am sure it took many years off of my life as well. :frown:0

No breakfast. Often skipped lunch. Got REALLY hungry and binge ate starting around 2:00pm eating mostly chips and cheese dip or Lay's barbecue or cheddar and sour cream chips. I would often finish a whole bag of chips in 1 day (not the snack size). Drank 4-5 regular cokes per day. Dinner was usually some kind of rice or pasta dish. I usually filled the plate to the brim and finished it off. Dessert was a bowl full of ice cream.
I was easily taking in 3000-4000 calories per day.0 -
Mine was strictly portion control. The foods I eat now are the same as before. I had a bad habit of eating fast and not giving myself time to register that I was full and as a result I would eat multiple portions in one sitting. I don't like chips or sweets and I haven't eaten fast food in probably fifteen years or more.0

My downfall (and still is) was fast food and pizza. When I went to college, I was no longer getting Mom's home cooked meals every night. I started commuting and never had time to cook, I just wanted to pick something up on the way to homework. I'm still trying to learn recipes and how to cook but it's difficult with an extremely low budget. Mostly I'm watching portions and trying to make better choices now.0
-
Lots of processed snacks like donut sticks, fall harvest cakes (any season), frozen foods and tons of diet coke !!! I gave it up thank goodness. I only indulge in a soda maybe every other week if that.0
-
Went out to dinner almost every other day. Lots or red meat and sodium. I love cream sauces, butter..*sigh*
Forgot to add MCDs sweet tea daily or some kind of boba or starbucks..0 -
been tracking my calories through mfp for about a month. before then, i never considered my caloric intake for the day.
i just went in and entered my typical food intake as it was before i changed my diet. wow.. just wow.
i'm amazed i don't weight more than i do after looking at what i was putting into my body on a daily basis. makes my stomach hurt just thinking about it. i'm definitely a 'late-night binger'.. i could scarf down an insane amount of food in a couple hours of 'snacking'. i still haven't entirely fixed the problem of wanting to eat so much late at night (its a mix of physical and psychological elements im sure..), but if i get the compulsion now, at least i can practice enough discipline to grub out on some frozen grapes or crackers and hummus.0 -
I didn't eat a lot most days, but then I'd binge and eat an entire bag of Doritos, the whole can of cheese dip, a package of gummy bears (like the big pound package) and a two liter of Dr Pepper. That was probably at least once a month. And I'd have frozen pizza all the time. But I easily drank a 2 liter of Dr Pepper every single day. Or 2 bottles.0

Wasted massive calories on drinks like soda & juices.
Take aways: give no fark for calorie content, just bang for buck fullness.
minimal protein, high fat, VERY high carb I would estimate.
alcohol was pretty much the same though. Only ever had a drink on the weekends and was always spirits with diet coke. (don't know why I did diet coke with spirits only?)
Having said all that, there really were no "habits". Just eat whatever was on hand, cheap and filling at the time. No wonder I was 20kg overweight.
These days, I still do takeaways (pick healthier options generally) and have "bad" foods but it's all recorded and fits into nutritional goals0 -
Fast foods once or twice a day . . at least. I was totally addicted to luncheon meats, bologna, hotdogs . . and oh yea, candy.
At least 1-2 candy bars per day.
That has ALL changed. Thank God!! I was slowly heading towards a heart attack or worse . .0 -
I ate pretty similar, but when I don't watch my calories or at least be mindful of what I'm eating, I sometimes go out of control on portion sizes. I've had 1/2 a box of cereal for a meal before.
I feel so much better being mindful of my eating. Also I don't really like Frosted Flakes anymore. I actually prefer Corn Flakes with a little honey and unsweetened almond milk.
Also, I became a vegetarian in July.0 -
Great question. I just ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted it. I drank a lot of juice (I cut pop out a couple of years ago already), ordered out A LOT, and the most important downfall was that when I was full, I still continued to eat because I enjoyed the taste of what I was eating so much; thank goodness I don't do that anymore. I never looked at or cared about the nutritional value because for me, if it tastes good, I'll have it.
Now, my habits are a complete 180.0 -
so much candy!! i would definitely buy some sort of package(s) of candy every day. sour patch watermelons and milk duds. and i was addicted to sausage, egg, and cheese bagels from dunkin donuts for breakfast, which now would be more than half my daily calories! sometimes i'd trhow a couple munckins in there too. actually i am not sure how i didn't gain weight until this year.0
