Relationships never end, they just get put on hold for awhile. Sometimes weeks or months, sometimes decades.

Maybe you haven't seen an "ex" in 20-30-40 years, but if and when you DO see them, the connection is still there, no matter how fractured that connection is.

Although I haven't seen an ex-fiance since 1985 I'm sure we would pick it up again within minutes of seeing each other. Isn't that what high school reunions are all about?

The only end is when one of them dies, just like marriage.

As to who has a harder time adjusting to the relationship being put on hold, I don't think its a gender thing, I think it depends on the fortitude of the individuals and which one of them wanted the relationship to continue without interuption.
