every day. when I get out of bed and when I get home from work. I can tell you within a pound what it will read. Some folks say don't worry about it and I agree. I don't worry about it but I still check each day.

once a month, on the 15th in the morning after nature calls, anymore than this would drive me insane.

Almost daily. I don't have the will power to do it once a week so Monday through Friday I weigh myself after I shower for work. On the weekends I work out before I shower so I skip it since my routine is different.
  • I only weigh myself once a month now. That is only because I am pretty close to my "ideal" weight that I really don't need to check it very often. I am more or less "maintaining". But I believe it depends on how much weight you have to lose. If you have a great amount of weigt to lose, I would say the best thing would be to pick one day at the end of your "exercise" week and weigh in in the morning. If you have about "20lbs" to lose, I would say weigh every 2 weeks, but if you are very close to the "goal" or right at it, there is not a good reason to freak yourself out every day about a few lbs gained and a few lost. ( can gain anywhere from 3-5lbs in a week, from water fluctuation, among things that I may have eatin that are "bloaters") Hope you figure it out darlin, but don't stress the scale, best thing is to do "measurements"! Or go by "how my clothes feel" (thats how my husband does it!) ;d

    Hi!

I have been on MFP for only 3 days. I'm just curious, how often does everyone weigh? For me, it seems that in the beginning, I become too discouraged by the the scale. The inpatient part of me kicks in and I feel defeated.

I check in every day. I wish I wouldn't some days:)

Once a week. I think there are too many fluctuations throughout a week that can discourage you.

I check once a week. Same time, same day every week. (Saturday mornings right after my shower, before breakfast)

once a week.not gonna go nuts over daily.
  • Once a week.

Weighing daily isn't good for you, mentally. Many become obsessed with weighing daily, and you're not going to see actual results that quickly. Weight varies with what you've recently eaten, if you've gone to the bathroom, or are retaining water.

Make sure to weigh wearing as little as possible. I recently found out my work out clothes weigh 2lbs on their own!

Most people seem to recommend weighing about once a week. Personally, I'm a little obsessive and like to do it every day. The thing is, when you do it every day you will either see very very small drops or you may even see it go up for several days before coming back down. It can drive you nuts if you're not prepared for it. Over the first couple of months my number consistenly went down about 0.2-0.4 lbs each day. Then I started really working out more and now it jumps around a bit, even though I know I'm staying very close to my calorie goal. I've seen more informed people talk about water retention and glycogen and other things I'm not educated in LOL so I assume that's what's going on when my number is up for a few days and then suddenly drops back down to lower than it was before. I know I'm still making progress, but my scale does a little roller coaster ride before the number drops back down low again. Anyway, I weigh just about every day (wearing only my undergarments, after using the bathroom but before eating - logic being that I want to see what *I* weigh, not what *I plus some other stuff that is about to get out or that I just put in* weighs LOL), but I only log in the numbers that I know 'make sense' i.e. the ones that are lower than the last number I logged. B/c I know I'm following the plan correctly, I don't let the 'weird' numbers phase me.
I do the exact same, I even try to guess the number lol
