Fiber is great, but to much fiber will have the opposite affect.... TRUST ME! lol Lots of water, 5.5oz can of prune juice a day, smooth move tea..... all of those will help. :)

I'm taking fiber pills now but I'm thinking of switching to prunes. God, I'm an old fart.:grumble:

unfortunately the best laxative of all (for me) is fast food.

yes coffee helps me too :) but at the current moment i think you might need something stronger to get over the hump. i would say try one of the over the counter stool softeners.

Make sure you are getting plenty of fiber....I love the fiber one cereal and mix it with light yogurt. When buying bread, make sure it is high fiber. There are some 12 g fiber tortillas that are very tasty!! Really keep an eye on fiber.....I keep my fiber grams 35 or more a day....good luck!

2 things work for me - brown rice (small servings, the calories can be a lot). AND, for some reason, sweet potatoes. I'm not sure what the fiber content is in those, but if I eat 1/2 a sweet potato for dinner, the problem is solved the next morning.

If you are eating enough fiber you should have no problem. Flaxseed helps and so does more fiber. Then again I have never had the problem of not being able to go...with me I eat then I go...LOL

I had the opposite problem, and it hit me at the most inconvenient times - like when I'm out shopping..good luck finding a public restroom LOL - what worked for me? Kashi 7 Grain flakes cereal. I ate that for breakfast every morning and after about a week of eating it...well you know the rest of the story. Also eating a lot of veggies and fruits - my staples are celery & carrots, pineapple, apples, bananas, raspberries, grapes, raw spinach leaves and also yogurt. be sure to drink alot of water, eating stuff like this with the water wll help you stay regular.

    Metamucil works great.

Metamucil only works great if you drink enough water with it. If you don't drink enough water, since it's a bulk laxative, it will just stay in one big bulk and stop you up even worse.

Even if I eat plenty of fiber and drink plenty of water, my system still doesn't seem to want to cooperate with me. I take a cascara sagrada every day and it really helps to keep things moving. You can find them at any herb store or in the vitamins section at most pharmacies.

Fiber is great. But good fats such as avacado and olive oil in your diet helps a LOT. These good fats helps MOVE things along real good :)

Very same thing happened to me. I increased fiber by taking flaxseed, then started drinking steaming hot water w/lemon in a.m., then when very little happened, I took stool softeners. When my nutritionist finally called me back, she said I wasn't eating enough 'food' and to be sure to eat all the calories set for me. Shortly there after, and only eliminating stool softeners, things began to move. Good luck.

I eat something fatty or sugary (not healthy) about 1 or 2 times a week and that seems to help me. :) Just don't use stimulant laxatives (like Exlax). If you have to use something, take Milk of Magnesium or Miralax.

Plenty of water too. Too much fibre will just make the problem worse, loads of water will get things moving. Lol!

The thickest, darkest coffee you've ever had. 32 ounces should do it.

I had the same problem when I first started MFP. I used stool softeners for a couple days and that helped the problem get going. After that didn't need them anymore. Eat lots of fiber, fresh fruits and drink the water. It will get going again.
