  • Your post made me giggle cuz I've done this as far back as I can remember. I blame it on being blessed with the ability to switch into right brain mode at any given second. Not only has it affected my spelling, but also my reading. I once stared at the word "bump" on the side of a coffee pot for approx 30 minutes before I switched back over to left brain and actually comprehended the word. I love my creative side and wouldn't trade it for anything. :flowerforyou:

Lol I was putting it down to the over helpfulness of my iPhone. Its true technology makes us lazy. I think ageing has a lot to do with it too.
My manager is an ex school teacher and he often shouts out how to spell words (complicated ones). I have to quickly google so I don't look thick!

Years a go I would have trotted out the spelling no problem lol.

    Glad I'm not alone.

ive got really bad spelling, i spell things how i say it, as i dont know the proper spelling! ive got a spell checker on my phone that i have to use quite alot because people dont understand what im saying half of the time! :blushing:

when i write on these message boards i have to write it out first on my phone, then let the spell checker correct it all, and then i have to type it out! its a pain in the backside! and its embarassing too! especially if i have to fill forms or something out infront of someone! my words are all mumble jumble =/

I only get bad at spelling when I've been drinking. >_>

Naturally, this is why smart phones are of the devil. Put me and my Twitter app in a bar? HOURS of entertainment.

I normally don't go out when I drink that way I don't have to worry about a DD...but, I always end up on Facebook when I get drunk, and I post about 2347856283465 stupid things that are nearly incoherent with tons of mispelled words and very little punctuation, lol.

I don't own a car, so all I have to worry about is walking straight and/or how much the bus driver will hate me when I stumble on this his or her bus. Of course, I also don't drink a lot, which is why I think I post so much when I do go out.

Entertaining thread and all, but seriously, if you have a sudden loss of normal mental function, see a doctor immediately.

It's probably nothing, or its stress, but it has a slim chance of being a very big catastrophic thing you'd want to address.

Yes, been there! For me it's when I start questioning, then over thinking. Then whatever word it is just seems wrong!
I am typing on my iPad right now, & I know it "corrects" me to some random word sometimes, and that's even worse!

Typing in all capital letters is considered shouting (and it is also irritating to try and read it) :flowerforyou:

    Thank you! :flowerforyou:

i think that this comment was really not needed.... and if i want to type in all capital letters... then so be it.... who r u to tell me how im suppose to do certain things..... Thank u.... very much....
It's commonly accepted that all caps means you are shouting. And it is in fact more difficult to read. It was a friendly suggestion.

I was simply pointing out that in the etiquette of typing, the use of all capital letters is considered to be:-
    (a) an angry tone, and,
    (b) shouting
And in addition makes it very difficult to read, thereby causing most people to ignore the content of the post. :flowerforyou:

I agree with Thomas, the caps are way more annoying than a few spelling errors.

And it's "you" not "u", and "are" not "r". You start a thread to discuss your issues with correct spelling and proceed to defile the thread with the most horrible offender of all...text-speak! It is the texting that has caused your spelling dysfunction in the first place, most likely! Too many people spell worse now than they did in school. It's such a shame.

I have always been a poor speller and it really bugged me...

Until I found out the Einstein was a poor speller. When asked about it his reply was..."I never commit to memory things that can be looked up."

After I read that I quit feeling bad about not being able to spell.

Well u didnt ignore it now did u.... and i really didnt know that i was in english class... and i really dont care if someone ignores my post... how about u ignore them from now on....

I hope you don't think I'm being rude, I'm just trying to offer an opinion.. but takling in Caps Lock on the internet is actually considered ill manners, hence why someone asked you to stop. They probably know you didn't intend on being rude, but yeah... that's just internettiquette.

As for spelling, I consider myself a great speller - I work in a school and support low students... however since working intensively with a couple of student with really low literacy my own spelling is starting to suffer - I had to think about how to spell "Office" the other day - and ended up writing "Offise" :/ I've been told it's a symptom of working with low-lit kids! hehe
