Sixers Love Yourself Challenge- Week 5

Ladies, I learned tonight that I like swimming for exercise. I hadn't really been in a long time and let myself actually let go and just swim but I had so much fun, and burned 595 calories, woohooo!!! I think the kids and I will do that more often. Wow, and I felt/feel great! And, I wore my bikini. I was extremely self-conscious and will definitely be getting a one piece (swimming laps + bikini top=trouble). But, it was all I had to wear tonight so I am proud that I didn't let that stop me from going. Dr.Tamm, so glad you are almost done moving in. Can't wait to meet your sister! Have a great night ladies.0

Thanks for finding me!! I was SO lost... lol! I usually am pretty great with figuring it out but now this time:blushing: ... Thanks Chipper! Hi DrTamm! I look forward to getting to know you all!
I am Dr. Tamm's sister! And apparently I am pretty excited to be here! :flowerforyou: So a little about me... *I like to talk so maybe not a little* I am in 3 different weightloss groups and they all provide something different but what I am really looking for is a support group! I am 23 and a 2nd year medical student- high stress level despite my constantly trying to remain relaxed and calm :noway: I use journaling, baths, and exercise to keep my stress in control. I am a big fan of motivational quotes, affirmations and hard work! Hmm what else, I am working on stress control and remaining optimistic
And Since I'm more than a number :-D ... Now I can tell you what I weigh. I'm 5'1. I maintained 130-138 all throughout college and ALWAYS thought I was too fat. I always wanted to weigh 120 so even when I was at a healthy weight[ a little over normal BMI] I still wanted more *mostly because I want a flat stomach and I'm hippy. So I don't think I was wrong to want to weigh 120, I just wish I could have enjoyed myself a little more while I was 130* My highest weight since medical school has been 155-156 despite continuing to exercise, i.e. running marathons, exercising daily etc. I however ate nothing but junk my entire first year of medical school because I hated my 1st apartment and basically made too many excuses as to why I never ate healthy.
I weigh 148-150 now on a good day and honestly I'm a little frustrated because I work soooo hard and I just feel like I'm not seeing the progress I want. And I'm too scared to try a fad diet. So I just keep working hard and hoping/ knowing that one day I am going to get a breakthrough! * If I can just get the scale moving I know I can keep it going! Oh and I'm aiming to eat 1200-1550 calories a day, though I still struggle because I need to do more planning. I am willing to give this my all and I look forward to making progress I just need to shock my system!
So My stats are: 5'1, 150lb [35- 29-43] Hippy
My goal weight is 115* within my healthy BMI*
goal measurements : 34-26-38 still hippy
Want to lose 35 lbs *by June something but will take success when ever it comes!
Hope this wasn't too long! Any questions for me just ask!! I will continue to lurk until I can join in, and I will stay active in the meanwhile!0 -
Hi KGE8580
I went swimming yesterday for fun/exercise too! I don't swim well, well actually i CAN swim I just don't like deep water... lol, but the pool I go to now is 5 feet the whole way! So I used the kickboard and really got a GREAT workout! I only did 25 minutes but my heart rate was up! I think I may start incorporating a 1/2 swim session in 2-3 times a week until I become a stronger swimmer! I have a one piece bathing suit with a skirt! lol... I bought it at target for 30 dollars. Glad you enjoyed your workout!0 -
Hi gonabfit, so glad you are joining us. I am a newbie too! Adding swimming is probably a great idea if you enjoy it. Like I said, I didn't realize how much I enjoyed it! We were there for like 2 hours. Wow! We had so much fun. And you are right about the deep pool part because I swear, I did NOT realize how fast I would get tired out from swimming. Just a couple of laps and WOW!, my HRM was beeping at me saying my heart rate was too high and I was really winded. It was GREAT! Again, so nice to meet you! Have a great night.0

welcome gonabfit :flowerforyou: .....glad you could find/join us.
i didn't do good today. went to one of our fav places for lunch and it's a buffet. sooooo good. we did learn not to go on weekends, it's 3bucks more per person.:noway: it was good anyway and we ate our moneys worth.
tring to get back into the groove. still a struggle for me. the scale has gone up 2#s since i am now eating normal again since surgery. i guess i should had expected that. that whole week i didn't eat more that 1000 calories, cause it would go in one end and come out the other, plus, just wasn't hungry. now that i can eat and it stay i am back up to my set 1500. so need to accept it and go on.
boy, dr tamm and gonabfit.....your mother must be so proud of you two. both of you in the medical field. gonabfit, what will be your specialty?
katie....got the book today....
well, need to go and close up the blinds and finish watching "the sixth sense" good movie.
later ladies....0 -
Have you read through it yet, Cathy? It is so much fun to read. Here is a new Haiku for today:
"Double cheeseburger,
French fries, and a Shamrock Shake.
Glimpses of Heaven."
Too funny!0 -
no, didn't get home until after 5, been gone shopping all day.....we left at 9:15 this morning. son needed to go and get tools and cloths for his new job. he did very good on his spending. didn't over buy, and was penny pinching. he wants to leave home again. he's been looking at apts. he wants to go out someday and look at a few. great  after he leaves i can get my garage sale stuff ready for a nice day, and start packing and put boxes in that spare room. we are having to move in nov. landlord has a buyer for this place. he already has a new place for us to rent up the street. can't wait to go see it. says it's huge and has 3 bathrooms, spanish tile, huge kitchen. he has renters in it now. they have notified him they are leaving nov. so can't wait to look at it. says if we like it he will offer it to us to buy in a few years.
just telling DH i couldn't find the box of kleenx. (we are in the den on our computers) and said oh, yea it's on the treadmill. boy, that's dedication. i was on the treadmill yesterday with a bloody nose. that's why i had the kleenx.
well, going to watch some tlc tv and bed soon.
see ya tomorrow........0 -
Hi! Today I walked outside with spurts of jogging/ competing with my bf. all and all we did about 5 miles... not high intensity but hopefully still counts! I would like to squeeze in some taebo later. I have 4 weeks until my spring break and though I have tried to do it the "right" way I feel like I need to do a diet. nothing unhealthy but I need a jumpstart and am going to REALLY regret it if I am uncomfortable on my cruise because I was unable to lose anymore weight before then. I am thinking about doing the southbeach diet for maybe just 3 weeks. :-) Or maybe I won't... :ohwell: Well, we will see! I am going to continue with the weights and cardio as much as possible considering I will be studying up to 10 hours a day :-D.
*Oh and I promise I'm not usually this extreme about my workouts... I just need to get the ball rolling!
I want to specialize in obesity related diseases and nutrition! I think some part of us tries to help others with the issues we stuggle with the most... I'm a good teacher. and I'm VERY passionate about exercise nutrition. I'd like to do what Dr. Pamela Peeke does! *Check her out, she's on discovery health.
Question: How often do you guys post and do you just tell what you did that day? Thanks! Great meeting you guys!:blushing:0 -
gonabfit.....you are doing a great workout. i am going back to the gym tomorrow. starting slow again. i just had my gall bladder out almost 2 wks ago. pain comes and goes. that's why the slow start. i would love to pick your brain on nutrition and exercise nutrition....i am always running into walls. i am diabetic, so i have some obisity related diseases. but, as the weight comes off so does the medications. i am now completely off blood pressure, but, have to stay on 2.5 to protect my kidneys with the diabeties. which is a catch 22, cause my BP can run low. acid reflux is gone, now that they know it was my gall bladder. if i can drop under 200#s, he is cutting my metformin in half. so i really want that. just struggling right now. i am sorry for rambling....
people post when ever. seems lately everyone is falling slowly away. i know for myself i really need this group. i hope people start popping back on.
well, i have rambled enough, going to watch some tv. get my clothes ready for the gym tomorrow. excited to get back to it. but, looking for excuses. i don't know if i will weigh in on tuesday. i have put on some pounds and not happy about it. don't know if i want to share. we will see come tuesday morning.
have a great night, be back tomorrow....0 -
gonabfit- you will see that the posting is much more active during the week. It seems that over the weekend we just do more lurking than posting. We "try" to post our meals and a love for everyday. We do a lot of chatting which I personally love. Have a good night gals.0

Hello gonabfit! Welcome to the Sixers. I am guilty of falling off. I have had alot going on and am just struggling with my weight right now. This is a great group of ladies who are always there for you when you need it. It sounds like you will be bringing some good things to the group too! Again, welcome!
Well, my weekend was a busy one! Friday I went in for my ultrasound of my abdominal area. Ultra sound tech was not supposed to tell us what she saw but my DH figured it out and she as much as confirmed it. I have gall stones and they are big ones! There is only 2 but they take up a huge amount of space in the gall bladder. There is no way I will pass them. So the radiologist has to forward this info onto my dr. I anticipate a call from her on Monday and an appt sometime next week to see a surgeon. Saturday we went out to breakfast. Then Saturday afternoon I went and saw a movie with a girlfriend. We saw "He's Just Not That Into You". Great movie! Today was lunch with my brother, his wife and my 2 nephews. Then dinner on Sunday is always at my in-laws. Needless to say I didnt eat well. I dont feel in control of my body right now with the health issues. Cathy- did you feel this way? I feel like I need to get this surgery over with and move on from there. It is just so all consuming right now. I have to lose weight because I am in a wedding August 29 and I dont fit in the dress right now. I need to get it together. Sorry for the rant!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
Amy0 -
Hi gonabfit! welcome, this group is great for support, advice... really everything. :flowerforyou: Glad you can join us (I can relate to the high stress school environment, :noway: but I find that exercise really is one of the best ways to refocus and de-stress...)
Anyways... I am back from my research cruise (trust me not a fun cruise ... although it was kind of warm this weekend so that was good) ... anyways I went to the bf's sunday and i did not do so hot with the food... but we worked out together which was fun... ran/walk 3.5 miles, then strength training... so weigh in on tuesday should be interesting... probably 149/150 as always... erg. :grumble: oh well, the bf is coming down to stay with me this week and look at jobs... and we had the healthy food chat, and he is all on board with it... we even made a work out plan together (i think my healthy life style is starting to rub of on him (even though he looks great, I think he wants to be healthier)... well i hope everyone had a good weekend. i may be on later i have to go out on the boat again for the afternoon... burrrr but i will be back for morning weigh in.0 -
Thanks for responding everyone! I am rushing to get ready for school in 35 mins! lol.... procrastination is not good! Oh, I did Taebo basic bootcamp 30 mins this a.m.! I will get back on and catch up and comment on the posts! :-) Sorry for the short reply! Love=early morning workouts.. IF I get enough sleep!0

Guys... I have been so slack on posting. As some of you know, my husband and I are in the early stages of separating (divorcing). It's been tought emotionally, but he's finally come around and being agreeable. I want an amicable separation so we don't emotionally wound our daughter (she's 3.5 y/o). He's working with me. We are going to separate our bank accounts soon, look at if we owe/get a refund from taxes, where he's going to live, how in the world I will afford the house on my own (I can do this, but it lives very little wiggle room in my budget, and I mean VERY LITTLE)... But he is agreeable to working with me now, so we are making progress.
It's been tough, and I've been having mini-binges at night. One night I had a full binge (ate approximately 2500-3000 calories in under an hour) and I got a pretty scared. My mini-binges aren't so bad (I eat maybe a dozen cookies or the equivalent) but still not great. However, I'm getting my emotions back in check, so the emotional eating should subside. It's mind over matter, and I'm working on it. In the meantime, God has blessed me with little to no weight gain. I think He's worried I might crack if I gain weight back  . But since He's given me a pass for a couple weeks, I thought I outta say thanks by getting back on track myself.
AmyLou- how is the new Fray? I love the one song I'm hearing radio play on. BTW, check out www.gomusic.ru . It's a Russian music website. You can download songs for as little as 9 cents. Legally. It's where I purchase all my music now. Got the new Coldplay album (Prospekts March, a remix of Viva La Vida) for under a $1. No lie. Under a buck. I heard about the site from my zumba instructor who gets all her music there. Multiple people I know use it without complaint.
Chipper, those face photos in your ticker show the rewards of your hard work! You look AWESOME!! Isn't it a great feeling?
Kristin, I am so excited for you. I went through a nasty postpartum and didn't really enjoy my daughter's infancy (which is fine). However, I could ask for nothing more than what I have with her right now... at 3 years old, I have the coolest kid in the world and genuinely love spending time with her. Kids are exciting and eye opening. You learn so much about yourself. I have learned such patience. I am so excited for you!!! Have you guys picked out names yet for either sex? LOL, Like Chipper says, we are having a baby sixer!!
Connie, you poor dear! Your babies are always sick, it seems, but with 3 in school, they are bound to catch everything and pass it around a million times. Is everyone feeling better? I hope you've been able to keep well through it all. You know, I should drive my tail up to visit you one day! You aren't *that* far away. You're up near Western, right?
Strawberry, your body might reaaaaaally like this weight range! I've been sitting at the 159 mark for a while now (but I've been slack too). I think it's harder when you are on the cusps of two 'weights' (i.e. the 140s and the 150s). Mentally it's harder, I mean. LOL I'm rambling now....
Deb, stress happens. Weight gain happens. I'm so glad your hubby kept his job. Try to get back on plan and don't worry about the weight gain. We're still glad to have you with us!!
Katy, I am so impressed with your weight loss. You are such an inspiration!! So tell me, why haven't YOU asked Alex out? Why are you waiting on his invitation? (I'm a forward girl, so if you are shy, you will have to beat it into my head to try to get me to understand!! )
And AmyLou -- you too? What gives? Ask these boys out, girls!!!!!
Katie, thank you so much for posting those haikus. They really make me laugh! How is that HRM treating you? I cannot live without mine anymore.
Beagle, you told Kristin "Your heart will be so filled with love it will ache! " Boy is that the MOST accurate description of parenthood EVA.
Pedal, I hope you are feeling better! Are you??
Shanell, your 'confession' made me laugh. Sometimes it's okay to run out and have a calorie-ladened burger and fries. Sounds pretty yummy, actually.
PettMyBunny, feel better dear!! These nasty winter bugs are sticking around for WEEKS this year, making everyone so miserable. I hope you are well on your road to recovery now.
AmyLou, your love was so accurate -- I finally feel like I 'belong' at the gym now too! When I started and was so large, I felt out of place, but like I needed the gym more than anyone else there. Now I feel more at home, even though I still need to lose weight and tone my wobbly bits.
Katy, the less you weigh, the less there is to lose. I've always heard the longer the fat has been on you, the harder it is to lose, and lemme tell you, my last 20lbs is STUBBORN. I'd say you are probably moving into the 1.0 - 1.5lbs a week range for loss. Don't stress it. Keep your goal in mind, and keeping working to reach it dear. All this weight didn't go on overnight, and it shouldn't go off that quickly either.
"Sara Lee puzzles
over her sudden weight gain.
A pound cake, indeed."
PetMyBunny, I ALWAYS mistake thirst for hunger. Thanks for reminding me to get my water in today!!!
DrTamm, how is that new furniture? I cannot wait for the day I get to buy new furniture!! (I have a feeling it will be around the time my daughter is 16 or so and old enough not to mess it up!! haha)
Gonabfit, HI !!!! :flowerforyou: Post as often as you like around here. I've been SLACK lately, but I've been known to post multiple times a day.
PDX Amy, Oh no!! I hope they are able to blast those gallstones and get you better!!! Plus, I am jealous you got to see that movie. I wanna see it but no romantic comedies for me right now...
My Daily :
Exercise and sunshine keeps my spirits lifted. Mostly exercise.
This keeps me moving forward in a positive direction.
Life is too short to be sad. I intend to live and be happy. Silver linings are always there if you just look for them!!
Also, I'm wearing a new suit today that retails for $280 but I picked it up for $29.99 at Ross. That's what I'm talking about!!!! :laugh:0 -
Hi Ladies,
Lauryn, So good to hear from you. Thanks for all the personals. It is totally understandable that you have not been here as regularly with the situation you are dealing with. Good Job on managing not to gain with all thats going on. Keep up the positive attitude: that helps in a HUGE way.
Welcome gonabefit! :flowerforyou: This is such a great group of women who offer lots of advice & support.
Katy & Pedal, Miss you around here:flowerforyou:
I’m really struggling to stay focused on losing weight lately. I have gained back more weight and am really embarrassed. I have NOT given up, although it is starting to feel like I have. I will change my ticker tomorrow to reflect my current weight. I have been avoiding doing that lately, because I didn’t want to have to deal with the fact that I am going up on the scale instead of down. Here is what I am going to do to deal with it now.
A couple of weeks ago I made up a point system to reward myself for things like drinking all my water, getting my exercise in, & planning my meals. I am going for 40 points to get to my reward (a massage). So far I have 12 points, but I am still gaining weight instead of losing. I am not getting all my water in or planning my meals.
Here are some changes I am making that should encourage me to build good habits. If I get in four fruits/veggies in a day I will get one point. The idea is to start eating the healthy foods and get full from them instead of grabbing the unhealthy snacks. I will get one point for drinking 4- 8ounce glasses of water. It was 6-8 glasses of water but I just don’t do it, so hopefully this will get me started until I can build up to the 6-8 again.
I feel good that I took the time this morning to think about what I need to do for myself and that is something I should do more often. There’s an idea, maybe I’ll give myself a point for that!
Have a great day ladies:happy:0 -

anyone i missed....sorry, have a great day.
i went back to the gym today. did a pretty good workout. nice and slow and only 20/30#s on the machines. side let me know when i was pushing it. i have been listening to jillians podcasts from her talk show on sundays. someone had called in saying they were on a platou for months and what could she do about it. jill said that if it lasts longer than 2 weeks it's something else. she said a person should workout 4x's for an hour each time and burn 500+ caloriers each hr. and eat between 1200-1600 calories. thought this was interesting. the caller said she hadn't been counting her calories, but, she just knew. jill said you would be surprised at what can be added it, and you not think about it. jill also said that with her being the same for months, she was maintaining and now she knew she could maintain. i thought this was interesting.
well, washer is done need to change it and start another.
later girlies....0 -

I just realized that for the first time since doing the sixer challenges I will most likely make my goal.
I am 1 lb away from my goal. I weighed myself this morning and I was 259. I finally made it to the 250's. 2 more lbs and I will have lost 40 lbs in a little bit less than 6 mths. I cant see a difference but I asked my hubby last night if he honestly could and he said that he could. I had him take some pics of me last night in just my pants and sports bra because I never took any beginning pics. I will not post them though until I lose more weight and I can see a difference in the pics.
Connie0 -
Congrats Connie on the loss and on almost reaching 40 pounds in 6 mths! That is awesome! Once you start comparing those pictures you will see the difference for sure!0

Ladies, I wrote a whole long post this morning and reached for my book to add a new Haiku for today and somehow lost my post. ARG....:grumble: Not sure, but I think the kitty had something to do with that one. So I will try to say all I wanted to say, here goes.
Lauryn- Yes, I am LOVING my HRM, totally obsessed with it. I am so sorry for all the craziness in your life right now. I know you have the strength to endure it and to kick those late night binges to the curb, for your own health.
Amy- Wow were you right on with the self-diagnosis of gall stones. Hopefully they will get this taken care of for you quickly. I know the out of control feeling seems unbearable try not to think too much about it or it will get the best of you.
Cathy and gonnabfit- I enjoy morning workouts as well. Unfortunately, with the family's schedule, I can't get to the gym as early as I like all the time. ahhh....some day.
Rhiannon- hope you are feeling better. Hoping to hear from you soon.
Katy and AmyLou- hope you are having fabulous days.
Deb- Love the point system, what a fabulous idea.
Connie-good to hear from you. Hope those kiddos are better. Congrats on the near milestone, well done!
Robin- the HRM seemed to work quite well in the water. Now I just need a new suit, lol.
Strawberry-good for you rubbing off on the BF. WTG!
Shanell-how are you?
Dr. Tamm- hope you are settling in.
Anyone I forgot, so sorry.
Ok, confession time. First, I was down two pounds this morning and that is ONE pound from my goal! Hoping to maintain that for tomorrow. But, today I was in the mall and had a cookie and a pretzel. I don't know what came over me, it was like I just HAD to have it. Ok, so I burned 368 calories this morning so I need to do some between commercial calorie burning tonight.
