    Something is missing here!

Tea is a diuretic which means it DEPLETES the water that is in your body. So for every cup of coffee or tea you drink, you need to drink double that amount in water because that is what you have just taken out of your body.
Incorrect. Please read the pages of information given here. The diuretic value of tea does NOT negate the water value it contains....far from it.

there is no question that caffeine inhibits the release of antidiuretic hormone. this makes you pee more, so while not necessarily dehydrating if someone tells you that caffeine doesn't make you pee they're feeeding you a big load of pooh
Nobody is denying the anti diuretic effect of caffeine. What has been proven in multiple studies, though, is that the amount found in most drinks is negligible and cancelled out by the water in the drink. Check the links.

This. Check the links as they said.

I really should try agave. I'm not sure why I haven't yet, except that I'm afraid I won't like it. :-) I've heard it's sweeter than honey, so you need less of it.

I don't know if it's *sweeter* but it's less messy and has a lower glycemic index

I love when people just make up stuff in their head from stuff they overheard somewhere, and then post it as fact. Brilliant, really...

I'll have to pick some up and give it a try.

Eat a tic tac, drink a jug of water. Desolve a tic tac in water and drink it. To your body there is zero difference!

    I count tea :drinker:

If this is true, then how are people who live on tea, coffee and diet coke still alive? I seriously know people who don't drink any beverages that do not contain caffeine. They NEVER EVER EVER drink water. So if tea and caffeinated drinks take out DOUBLE the fluid out of the body, how are all these people still alive???

Just because water hydrates you BETTER than caffeinated beverages, does not mean that that the caffeinated beverage will dehydrate you, Only that they won't hydrate you as effectively as water. The dosage of caffeine has to be very very high to deplete water. If you were even ABLE to brew a cup of tea this strong, it' would taste so nasty you wouldn't be able to choke it down.

WATER IS A DIURETIC. Can people please stop throwing the word diuretic around, when they don't have a clue what it actually means?
  • I have never been sure on that whole tea and water thing...I always just add the tea into my daily foods. I drink about 3-5 cups of hot tea everyday. I will say this, for myself if I am drinking hot tea then I am also drink plain water as well because the tea makes me thirsty. :) So drink both and as much as possible!
