I got inspired to post this after recommending it in some other thread, for me it would have to be Katy Song by Red House Painters... it's sparse and lyrically brutal without reverting to cliches and builds up into a lovely climax, it's sad, enchanting and uplifting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFQ4nuUuwNo LISTEN TO THIS SONG BEFORE YOU DIE
The sound quality isn't the best though, which is a shame but it's the only version I could find on youtube!
Spotify link for those who have it: http://open.spotify.com/track/6aIZItn2r8NPrnvVhvcnOr (for better sound quality)
I want more beautiful songs now, I'm in the mood!

I don't like to make all time favorite lists. Lately for me, it's anything off 'Kind of Blue' by Miles Davis especially Blue in Green. That has been putting me to sleep every night recently.

And I'm actually learning how to play it on my grand piano!

That is a very nice song. Nice and sparse the sort of thing that'll leave you alone with your thoughts and as you say great for sleeping on0 -
Alot of songs are beautiful to me... but I do like... "Just Breathe" Pearl Jam & "Keys in the Conch Shell" Kenny Chesney.0

Brothers - Ennio Morricone - From The Mission0 -

"At My Most Beautiful" by R.E.M is definitely a favourite.
"Perfect Day" by Lou Reed is going to be my wedding song in January.
There are tons more, but those are standouts.

The soprano aria 'Oh Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini's opera Gianni Schicchi

I'm not even that big of any opera fan, I tend to mostly listen to dumb pop and hip hop when I work out, but this particular aria is transcendental to me.
I also think 'Running Up That Hill' and 'This Woman's Work' - both by Kate Bush are beautiful songs.0 -

I fully agree with Dance me to the End Of Love... especially this film clip of Leonard's version. Tears.

Antonín Dvořák's Serenade for Strings in E major, Op. 22: Larghetto (movement IV)
I realise that this doesn't qualify as a "song", but it's still one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed, and the fourth movement, Larghetto, is especially beautiful. :flowerforyou:

I have been REALLY into the Civil Wars lately. Poison and Wine is haunting. Some other favorites of this type of music that have a build up are:
The Cinematic Orchestra - To Build a Home

Mumford and Sons - White Blank Page
Manchester Orchestra - I can Feel a Hot One

Okay... my roommate does opera, so I recently discovered that I harbored a wrenching love for the opera song "Les chemins de l'amour" yesterday, as I accompanied her (rather poorly) on the melodica.
Others:
Hey Lloyd, I'm Ready to Be Heartbroken: Camera Obscura
Let's Go for a Walk: Of Montreal
Every Time I Go Around (Here): Frank Black
Shangri-La: The Kinks
Here, There, and Everywhere: Beatles
Wrapped up in Books: Belle and Sebastian (heck, all of their music is shockingly beautiful)
She's Not There: The Zombies
These are not necessarily my FAVORITE songs by these bands (although they're up there!) but are songs I consider to have an unabashedly pretty aesthetic.
Also, my boyfriend's band, Sally, has some darn pretty music. I designed the website too www.sallyband.com0
