Let me start out saying I love Pepsi and Coke. They are my vices when it comes to unhealthy food. I love Pepsi in a can or bottle and love Coke from a fountain machine. Having said all that, I've seen Coke from a can or bottle eat away at rust. I remember when my girlfriend's brother was working on his car and asked for a Coke...I assumed he was thirsty...nope, he poured it on a couple parts that were rusted together, waited a few minutes and they came apart easily....pretty nasty, but that still doesn't stop me from drinking it...unfortunately.

That just proves it's mildly acidic. No one's disputing that. Did you know there is acid in your stomach?

Wait... If I mix it with Jack Daniels does it become healthier??

in my mind, jack is a base, so it counteracts the acidity in coke, so yes, it becomes healthier! :D

    LOL

I understand the whole, "Don't tell me what to do. Just b/c you don't want to drink soda, doesn't mean I have to stop" mentality. I do not drink soda and have never been a big soda drinker.... unless accompanied by liquor... ha! (double whammy of calories for ya!... go big or go home) psh.. BUT... I doooo, however, appreciate this post. I always like random information about things being consumed by many in our daily lives. The human body is simply extraordinary and if all of this is true about coke... what machines we are! Thanks for this post!
Well yes, this would be a pretty interesting post if any of the information in it were true! Why are you grateful for false information?

As I said, "if all of this is true about coke". I am entertained by the post. I'm not necessarily taking it to heart, but interesting, none the less.

If Coke can clean a toilet, blood off the street, and dissolve a T-bone, just think how clean my insides are.

As for the ph being 2.5, our own stomach acid is between 1 and 2, therefore stronger than coke, so i hardly think it's gonna eat us alive if the stuff already in our stomach is far stronger!

You beat me to the punch:

Gastric acid is a digestive fluid, formed in the stomach. It has a pH of 1 to 2 and is composed of hydrochloric acid (HCl) (around 0.5%, or 5000 parts per million), and large quantities of potassium chloride (KCl) and sodium chloride (NaCl).

I work with substance abusers and some of you guys sound like alcoholics and people who smoke marijuana. You get a little negative information about your drug of choice and you get defensive. I AM NOT saying that you guys are addicts. Here's what I am saying - If it is hindering your fitness, health, or weightloss goals then quit drinking the carbonated beverages. If it is not, enjoy!!! Take this information for what it is: Information.

Yeah, we sound like drug addicts because we object to being fed information that is clearly false. If you paid attention, you would see that no one is saying that drinking Coke is good for you. I don't even drink it myself. What is being said here is that the original post is a bunch of junk.

I'm addicted to Coke (the beverage, not blow) when I'm puking my guts out. It's a homestyle cure for common food poisoning and gastroenteritis.

Who gives a flying you know what if it can melt the paint from a Studebaker. If it stops me from throwing up, it's nectar of the Gods.

That said...Always, always, always read Snopes before posting.

It is a fact that coke is acidic. It is a fact that coke eats through rust. It is a fact that regular coke has empy calories. Why do you think that is a bunch of junk? Additionally, you (ElizabethRoad) might be the most addicted to coke because you are making the most noise!!!!!

    Done with this topic!

What in the world are you talking about?
  • Put off? Whatever for? If Coke can clean a toilet, blood off the street, and dissolve a T-bone, just think how clean my insides are.

Actually I have cut way back on soda since joining MFP, but it was mostly from seeing the calories rack up in my food diary.

    QFT here!

But now I'm considering seeing if the nasty DIet Coke I bought and can't stomach might clean my toilet.

Though it's not pretty sky blue like Lysol cleaner :) Make sure you flush the coke down or it will have looked like someone had something explosive going on!

Has nothing to do with hinderance. It's information that's made to "scare" people when there's really nothing to be scared about.
You didn't happen to buy into the statement from that banks and mortgage companies that the housing market is fine and there's no need to worry about a crash a few years ago?

The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

If you're scared of a little citric acid you must be terrified of oranges, lemons and limes.

I was just wondering what the acid and sugar combo in an orange was?

You don't want to know...you could most certainly unclog your blocked sink with it.

I hardly ever have a soft drink, but when I do I drink pepsi so I guess I don't have to worry about it.
Coke sounds like a great multi-purpose product to me. If you need to find me this weekend, I will be cleaning the toilet with coke.
