I plan to get in a big burn work out somehow before! Then I will watch portions and enjoy what I really love to eat.

My plan as well! Enjoy the holiday and then get back on the horse on Friday! And I am NOT taking any leftovers to my refrigerator unless its a salad.

This is my plan.....I am going to enjoy myself BUT I am NOT going to overeat. And I am not going to waste my calories on stuff that I can have anytime I want (i.e. mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, rolls etc.) I am going to enjoy a sensible helping of dressing & noodles (which I only eat once a year) turkey, some salads and some dessert. And then exercise that night.

I'm logging like I would any other day. Thanksgiving for me is about family and being thankful for the gifts in my life, not about gorging on food. I'm sure I'll go over my calorie allowance, but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't be aware of what I'm eating. It's along the lines of the "eat to live, not live to eat" mentality.

I'm running a 5K in the morning. Then...I'm not logging anything. But that doesn't mean I'm going nutzo.

I don't know what I am going to do! I want to get a good workout in during the AM, but we cook at moms (which is where I will be staying while in town). I would like to just say, "Ah, one day without logging won't kill me, but I'll feel naked if I don't.. I've gotten way to used to logging EVERYTHING regardless of how much it puts me over.

I don't want to generalize because then I will worry all day that I am under estimating.

I'm going to say I'll have:
a small portion of turkey (3 or 4 oz)
green bean caserole (greenbeans, french onions, cream of mushroom, and cheese to top it off), I am guessing this comes in at about 160-200 calories per 3/4 c.
mash potatoes or mac and cheese
    deviled egg
    dressing (Yummmmm)
and a slice of some yummy dessert.

I will NOT be logging my food as I now this ONE day is not a big deal. I'll enjoy my familiy and not worry about calories I'm consuming because I know it's ONLY one day. I'll be on my bike Friday morning enjoying a 50 mile ride so I'll need the fuel anyway!!

Initially I was planning to log but the thought of entering all those recipes for the calorie count of one meal is making me have second thoughts.....Instead, I'll hit the gym on Thanksgiving morning and enjoy the rest of the day FULLY (emphasis on FULL). Back to business on Friday.....

Definitely logging my food for the day. Mom's also on MFP so I'll just quick add calories based on what she comes up with per serving for the pies. Everything else is pretty generic - turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans or coleslaw, cranberry sauce.

Hoping to get a little activity in that day but if it doesn't pan out, I'm not going to stress about it too much. It's ONE DAY!

Definitely not logging my food on Thanksgiving. I will portion control and not OVEReat, but I will enjoy my dinner! :)

I do not plan to log! However, I don't plan to over do it! I will enjoy some of my favorites but not until I make myself sick! Going to try to work real hard to enjoy the food and treats only on that day and not carry it over into my Friday and Saturday.. We'll see! Fingers Crossed Also, I'm going to get a good workout in that morning. This is a once a year thing so if you don't log or if you eat something loading with calories and fat realize it's just one day and try to get back on track the next day!! Good luck to all!!

Are you going to enter in new recipes for each thing, or just generalize it?? Or are you even going to log? I just am not sure if I will because I don't know how each thing is made except for what I make... I know that my mom makes some things with lots of butter... I don't plan on worrying about calories but I plan to portion control.
I won't be. Free for all that day.

Running the Turkey Trot 5K that morning - will probably not log thereafter. I am hosting so I will be too busy preparing/serving/stressing. LOL. I may keep track on paper and log later that night (estimates) - however, this is a day of no work, no studies, and lots of family time. I will just get back on track the next day...

**** I will however have to make a huge effort to watch the red wine so I don't get carried away.

i am hosting it so i wont have time to workout i will be cooking and baking but i plan to try to do a late night workout the night before.
  • I am going to generalize but in this way -> say a normal piece of pie is 200 calories I am going to log it as 300, that way I keep my calories in check for sure.

I won't be logging. I'll be too busy enjoying time with my family and stuffing my face full of great food.

I plan on being careful with portions and logging. Hey, I'm curious to find out how much I ate. I'm hoping to get a work-out in the am too.

Not going to log it. One day doesn't matter in the scheme of things. This is about lifestyle changes, not one holiday.

Not logging. Run in the AM, then chow town, without going too overboard. There will likely be some afternoon leftover grazing too. Then, back to normal on Friday.
Lacking the resolve to read through every post, this is the one that best describes me. Add a half Marathon on Sunday morning, too.

Most importantly though, I am going to EAT on Thursday. Can't friggin wait.

Treating it like any other day. I am dedicated to this as a lifestyle change, to treat it like any other day tells me I am on a diet not a lifestyle change.

Probably do an hour of cardio in the morning... and meet my total calories (eat back all work out calories)

I m not looking forward to the packed gym the following week from all the guilt trippers.
  • Originally I was really depressed that I wasn't going to have a Thanksgiving here in Europe. But now that I'm watching what I eat and trying to reach my goals, I'm kind of glad I'm not going to have food paraded in front of me over the next couple months. It's always the hardest time of the year to watch what you eat.

IF I did have to deal with it, I think I wouldn't count the calories I ate on Thanksgiving. It's a celebration, and I think all this time of hard work deserves a little break now and then. What is life when you can't enjoy it? So just have a little of everything. Don't over stuff yourselves and enjoy the day without worrying about every horrible calorie. Make sure to get up the next morning and workout like it never happened.

Good luck fellow stuffing/pumpkin pie/potatoes&gravy lovers.

. It's not such a big deal to go over your cals one day... but 3 days in a row can spell t-r-o-u-b-l-e :)

You hit the nail on the head. I have cooked dinner for all of my family and my husbands for almost 20 yrs. I seem to have tons of leftovers. This leads to days on end of eating heavy. So this year is the first one where we are going to his families house at 2pm for our first dinner of the day and they don't have a lot of food just turkey, ham, maybe a potato dish and a veggie. Then I have decided this time to only cook 1/3 of the food I normally cook. I want no left overs afterwards. That is my goal. I probably will log but it probably wont' be as correct as I want it to be. See I tend to eat a tablespoonful of each item and it's hard to log that. That is what I did this week at work with our Thanksgiving dinner and it came out still to a ton of calories. I am gonna try to get everyone outside after dinner before football to take a brisk walk too. The key I believe is doing great up till that day and getting back on the horse the next morning when your walking miles anyway shopping for great deals....I have to work that Friday so anyway. Good luck everyone. God bless

    Nichole
