Not touching this with a 10 foot pole. Get your flame suits on, people!
  • I don't know much about it, but I've heard the drops aren't really HCG and in order to get real HCG, you have to get a very expensive prescription. The "diet" is dangerous. It's not good for anyone to eat only 500 calories a day. If you do that, once you start eating normally again, you'll balloon back up.

Had a friend do it through a doctor. Paid A LOT of money for 10 pounds over 3 months.

She's gained it all back plus more.

    Not worth it.

The label of HCG itself claims that it is not an FDA approved weight loss supplement and it has not been proven to do anything that it claims. It does not suppress appetite and it does not affect the distribution of fat loss. The only reason you lose weight is because you are starving your body on less than most anorexics eat in a day. Very low calorie diets are only appropriate when prescribed by a doctor to a very dangerously obese patient.

Thats what I wanted to know, thanks. I guess I will always question if there is possibly something out there that will magically help me lose wieght.I think I am starting to realize that its a myth.Good thing ive never tried any of it, i would be soo pissed to gain back weight right after losing it. Yea, i dont think i could live on 500 calories.it was hard for me to do 1200 lol
  • I've been doing the "fake" hcg. (costco has some online) for about 44 days now, and I've lost 22 pounds! I cheated over the thanksgiving holidays, but started back up on the monday after. I feel like I was cheating while on the diet, because I seriously wasn't hungry. I always thought, no pain no gain, but hey, this works for me! I will be on the 1500 calorie diet now for 3 weeks without starch or sugar, and then I'll start the cycle again come January or Feb. I'd love to lose another 20 pounds before spring!
I admit, I was a little skeptical at first, but then after seeing the results on my sister, I thought I'd give it a shot. Glad I did!! Like all things tho, if you have some medical problem, I'd be afraid to try something so drastic without a doctors approval.

I've lost all the weight that I have just following MFP's recommendations. It's healthy, sustainable, and much easier.

Why don't you try eating sensibly and exercising? What is the rush to lose weight?

Be patient and do it by yourself. You will get more satisfaction and be healthier.

Good lord. Do we need to add Dr. Drew to the list of dough-headed "professionals" pushing this crap, along with Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz and The Doctors?

And, to make things worse, those warning labels only apply to HCG injections. The "drops" are totally unregulated and have never been tested. So not only are you buying a discredited product, you could well be buying a FAKE discredited product.

That's like wearing TWO "Kick ME" signs--one on the front and one on the back.

Yup. I think the rule of thumb is: if it's on an afternoon talk show, it's bullcrap. They are all being paid to push stuff, just like Oprah gets paid to give away stuff.

    There's nothing magical about HCG.

Eat 500 cals a day and presto you have just done this ignorant diet.

I'm sorry but what is HCG? If it's a miracle diet I would automatically say it doesn't work.

My doctor told me (I didn't ask so I don't know why he brought it up) that the injections work but the drops don't. You can take that with a grain of salt. :)

Always do your homework. If they recommend something that sounds too good to be true, or is a quick fix for weight loss -- Google it, adding "myth".

Hi there, friend. :-). I just wanted to let you know one of the huge downsides to the HCG 'program' (aside from starving yourself LOL) - losing weight that fast on a super low cal diet apparently makes you lose a higher percentage of muscle than if you do it the MFP way with a moderate deficit and hopefully exercise. Yes we want to lose 'weight' and yes it's common for some of the weight to be muscle, but it seems the HCG 500 cal thing makes people lose MORE muscle than they might have if they'd lost more slowly. Losing more muscle than necessary is not good b/c 1- if you don't have decent muscles your thinner body won't look as good when you get to your goal and 2- muscle loss can slow metabolism which can mess you up when you start eating regularly again. Yes there are some people that are happy with their results but there are also lots that have experienced undesirable side effects and unsustainable weight loss. All in all it's basically an anorexic diet along with a hormones that you are not supposed to have in your body right now (or a placebo if you're not getting it from a drs prescription).

It's frustrating and slow sometimes in this weightloss journey, but doing it the MFP way really is the safest and most sustainable way. Keep up your MFP efforts and try really hard to be patient. It totally works. :-)

It's natural for pregnant women to have the hormone in their body. Anybody "adding" it is unnatural. And when you here advocates say "it stops hunger", then why are pregnant women always eating? Read REAL research and not sites that advocate it. Read a peer reviewed (study by a University or reputed Medical Journal) study and you'll find out the truth.

it may be a quick fix, but it isn't a permanent fix. 500 calories a day isn't even enough calories to sustain bodily functions. Your body will likely revolt as soon as you go off them since you're effectively starving it ...and when that happens, it will try to counter and prevent it from happening again by.... storing more fat.

There is no magic quick fix or miracle diet that works on a permanent basis except just limiting your caloric intake and exercising. Glad you asked about it first though!

The HCG diet is a dangerous scam. The ONLY reason people lose weight on it is the extremely low calorie food plan. HCG in ANY form has been repeatedly proven to do NOTHING to help with your weight loss or make it safe to eat only 500 calories a day.

I know some people that put their faith in the HCG diet, and became very ill from malnutrition as a result. It is NOT safe!

Here are a some good links about the HCG diet that you might want to read before you get any farther into this:

  • I know it's unhealthy but I understand why people fall for these types of weight loss scams. "Lose 18 pounds in 4 minutes!" Losing a noticeable amount of weight takes a good amount of time. If it were easy I guess we all wouldn't be here. I try to encourage people to pace themselves. My before and after picture is pretty cool to look at but there are 5 years in between those pictures. Five long years full of small everyday choices to better myself and I haven't put a single pound back on. To anyone considering one of these fads I beg you to stick with your regular modest diet and exercise plan. You won't get there as fast but you will get there the right way and you won't gain it all back just as fast as you took it off.

HCG does work very well. Yes the calorie restriction is causing the weight loss, but the hcg drops help with hunger control. In addition it also acts as a cleanser as it helps flush the fat toxins out of your body. I did the diet 7 days and lost 10 pounds. I feel absolutely great on the hcg diet. I hate to see people diss the diet before they try it. Its more then just the drops at work. Really its you at work: fighting urges, restricting your food in take, and eating healthier. Even if you do this a short period it is a great start to eating healthier. i have tried lots of diets and this is the only one that has brought me success in such a short period of time. The success is physical and mental. Check out my blog where I am keeping track of my weight loss www.mindbodybenefits.wordpress.com. Please subscribe and if you ever have any questions about this diet feel free to ask me. My contact information is on the blog. Happy Loosing!!

Did you take measurements before and after, b/c it has been shown repeatedly in people that had measurements or accurate BF%'s that the HCG diet makes people lose a lot more muscle than they would if they followed a more moderate plan. Losing lots of muscle as a big part of your 'weightloss' is not desireable.
