How many calories should a good breakfast have in it?
Mine this morning had 400 with 13 grams a fiber..
Just wondering..I know this is probably a rather stupid question

I normally have between 100 and 200 because I'm trying to keep my intake between 1000 and 2000, and I like to eat a bigger lunch and dinner. But that's just me0

I try to keep my main meals around 600-700 and snack to get the remaining calories.0

there are no stupid questions here...well...unless you ask....nevermind...
my breakfast can be anywhere from 200-500 depending0 -
It really doesn't matter when you eat your calories.
If you like a big breakfast, then eat one!
I average ~ 160 calories at breakfast, ~350 calories at lunch, and ~600 at dinner. . . and then there's usually a ~100 to ~200 snack in there somewhere either in the afternoon or evening.0 -
i usuually have between 350-400 calories at breakfast. Everybody's body works slightly differently and if I cut too low i am STARVING all day. i am not a girl who can have a serving size of cereal for breakfast. I will gnaw your arm off in hunger about 10 am !!0

What most people have (when not dieting), should be about 300 calories a meal (with the exception of dinner, since it's probably more around 400- 500).
So, if you're trying to loose weight, that's a little much. But whatever works for you.0 -
I average about 140 for Breakfast and have a snack before lunch. I like to have more for dinner...0

238 calories, half a cup of oats, with a teaspoon of brown sugar and a dash of 1.5% milk, two coffees with milk and a sugar. I eat that around 9.30, but the coffees are spread over the morning.
That's the only thing that keeps me going until I can eat again at 2pm when I have a break at work and make a huge salad with chicken for lunch.0 -
I'm not sure the science behind it, but I heard once that in terms of fueling your body through the busiest part of your day it makes sense to eat more earlier in the day. The saying is "Eat like a King for breakfast, like a Prince for lunch, and like a pauper for dinner." This isn't always the way I do it, but I do know on days I have a much more substantial breakfast I tend to eat a smaller later lunch, and sometimes only need a very small dinner.
In general I think whatever works for your body and hunger cycle will be best... but it makes sense from a purely logical standpoint, I think!0 -
my nutritionist says my main meals should be around 500 each with snacks in between!0

i have like 200-300 for breakfast. sometimes i find it hard to even eat a bowl of cereal, im just not hungry in the mornings but i know i have to eat to help kick start the day!0

It really depends on your particular needs. For a long time my breakfasts averaged around 250 calories. That's not enough for me anymore. I'm starving by 10am if I eat less than my now typical 350 to 400. I also try to keep my macros pretty well balanced and include protein, fats, and carbs in my breakfast; I stay full much longer that way than with either protein or carb heavy meals.0

This for me too a lot of days. We eat an early lunch since my oldest has to be at Kindergarten at noon so a lot of days I can get by with just a cottage cheese double and maybe some fruit or a half bagel thin and some margerine. I prefer to eat more for lunch and dinner.
Every now and then if I am working out a lot and know dinner and lunch will be lower calorie I'll live it up at breakfast with some fried eggs, bacon or scrapple, etc.0 -
Don't fall for the "you have to eat smaller meals spread out" myth. Some info: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/397321-should-i-eat-lots-of-smaller-meals
Don't fall for the "don't eat after X pm" myth. Here's some info: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/390149-should-i-eat-at-night
There is a wealth of mythbusting, helpful info like this here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/457-unofficial-mfp-faq0 -
Personal preference. No one can tell you a perfect amount to have. Experiment and see what makes you feel best.
My breakfast = zero calories0 -
If I skip breakfast, then I'm more likely to eat garbage for the rest of the day.
If I eat a decent breakfast, then my cravings throughout the day are milder and easier to bear. I tend to eat between 300-500 calories for breakfast.
Normal breakfast is this:
2 slices of bread (multi-grain or whole wheat)
2 Tbsp of peanut butter
1.5 Cups of coffee with non-dairy creamer.
Sometimes I sub the peanut butter for an egg.0 -
this is a survey question. it doesn't matter. there's no right answer.0

My meals are mostly broken up like this:
Breakfast: 150-200 calories
Morning Snack: 100-200 calories
Lunch: 300 calories
Afternoon Snack: 100-200 calories
Dinner: 300-600 calories
Nighttime Snack: 100-200 calories0 -

Personally, I like a decent, hearty breakfast... and lunch... and dinner. :laugh:0 -

Only 300 calories a meal for a non dieter? I don't think so. More like 500-600.
Mine is anywhere from 300-500.0 -
I have a big breakfast and lunch and try and keep my dinner a bit smaller so I don't open the flood gates for night snacking! I don't think it really matters when you eat your calories as long as you do space them out throughout the day somewhat!0

I had been eating granola for about 450cal breakfast and just switched back to oatmeal which leaves me around 300. I find myself getting hungrier way earlier.0

10. Myth: "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch a queen, dinner like a pauper."
Truth
Also connected to this saying, is the belief that you should reduce carbs in the evening as they will be less likely to be stored as fat. While this might sound good on paper, there's nothing to support it and a lot that shows it to be wrong.
The strongest argument against this are the numerous studies available on body composition and health after and during Ramadan fasting. This meal pattern of regular nightly feasts has a neutral or positive effect on body fat percentage and other health parameters. This is quite an extreme and telling example. People literally gorge on carbs and treats in the middle of the night to no ill effect. And yet, in the bizarre world of bodybuilding and fitness, people worry whether it's OK to eat 50 grams of carbs in their last meal.
If the scientific data on Ramadan fasting aren't enough, there are plenty of other studies showing no effect on weight loss or weight gain from eating later in the day.
In one study comparing two meal patterns, which involved one group eating more calories earlier in the day and one group eating most calories later in the day, more favorable results were found in the group eating large evening meals. While those who ate more in the AM lost more weight, the extra weight was in the form of muscle mass. The late evening eaters conserved muscle mass better, which resulted in a larger drop in body fat percentage.0 -
That's more scientific that mine!
But I think if you look hard enough you can find research that backs up most any position, in most any discussion. I say do what works for you. For me, if I eat a good breakfast, I'm less hungry later in the day. Probably doesn't work for everyone.0 -
Hehe just spreading some information!
You can find information back up just about everything yes, but finding peer reviewed clinical studies can really narrow it down.
Look into Intermittent Fasting if interested. Meal timing is irrelevant.
Personal Preference some feel better eating at different times :]0 -
I've heard:
"Eat like a king at breakfast
Eat like a knight in training at lunch
Eat like a pauper at dinner"
But I tend to find what works best for me is:
"Eat like a knight in training at breakfast
Eat like a king at lunch
Eat like a pauper at dinner"
I think it is true that if you eat too much too close to bedtime you gain more weight from those calories consumed. I stop eating 3 to 4 hours before bedtime, around 8pm for me personally which works great when I stick to it.

Nope, time and frequency of meals doesn't matter.

I believe you should eat at least 200-300 calories in the morning to restart your metabolism..... 400 is fine, nothing wrong with that if it works with the rest of your day.... Try to eat a high protein breakfast though -- keeps you full longer and gives you lasting energy because it takes longer for your body to burn through than carbs....0
