Why do you exercise?

Why?
It started because I knew it shifted weight faster for me if i was doing cardio - my food intake is fine.. maybe a litttle too much snack but otherwise, but I knew I didn't get off my bum.
But now I do it because of habit .. habit? Addiction? heh! I love exercising. I love getting sweaty, I love whinging about having to do more () and I kinda love the pain I get the next day, knowing I've worked damn hard to get it.0 -
I exercise because I know it's good for me. I also do it partly out of fear. Fear of not getting my cholesterol and triglycerides under control, becoming diabetic, heart disease ( all of these are present in my family history). I know if I exercise, It will go a long way towards prevention. That and the good feeling I get when I am done. Endorphins= Natures drug :happy:0

The reason I exercised before was to help me lose weight faster, but now I do it for serveral reasons: to keep my BMR up, to keep from getting lazy, to build muscle, and because by now exercising seems just as much as a necessity as eating.0
-
I feel so much better when I exercise. If I don't, I feel sluggish all day. As well, when I don't exercise, I usually eat more0
-
I started out exercising just for the extra calories
Then I got my heart rate monitor which told me I was burning less than 100 calories for a half hour of exercise. I'm on beta blockers, which force my heart rate down. I exhaust myself getting up to 118 bpm. Lots of work, very little return.
Now, I exercise for the toning and fitness. I also like the social interaction.
I hope that when I'm at a lighter weight my doctor will take me off the beta blockers.0 -
so i can stop looking like I'm pregnant, get my fitness up, look good and stay healthy0

I exercise, because it makes me stronger, and I enjoy it.
The side benefits are looking good, feeling great, living longer and better.0 -

Sometimes so I can eat more, sometimes to alleviate stress and sometimes because I like it. But I would like to see it more as building endurance, strength etc... My goal this year is to start lifting again, but I'll tell you0
-
I exercise because I want to look and feel good. I also want to be the guy grinning like an idiot because I just flew by you at mile 10 because you're already gassed and I'm just starting to lay down the hammer on my last 3.1 miles.
Oh and also because I love food so exercising lets me eat more good stuff.0 -
One part, because I know I'm supposed to.
One part, because I like the physical and emotional results from it.
One part, because I get to eat more.
And one part, because I enjoy it.
Some days, I really look forward to it. Some days, it's a chore. But usually, I can count on at least one of the four reasons above to get my *kitten* in gear.0 -
The main reason I exercise is to make up for some of the crap that I want to eat.
I also have read in a few different sources that regular exercise reduces the risk of diabetes, which is my main reason for losing weight. I have a family history with it, and it is something that I wish to avoid.
I am also starting to find that it helps me in everyday life. For example, when I'm shopping, or hanging out with friends, I don't want to be too tired to do anything. When I exercise regularly, I can lift groceries, walk for long distances, etc. I don't have to put my life on hold because I'm panting, out of breath, and wanting to sit down.
Last but certainly not least, sometimes I feel like when I'm sitting at my desk at work, that I am rotting there. My butt gets numb, my feet fall asleep and I feel my body getting stiff. When I get up, that gross feeling is broken within seconds of walking around.0 -
I am short, I cannot live on 1200 calories alone, so working out helps me eat more!
It also helps me greatly eat better, pms cravings are under control
makes me feel like i have done something good for myself and helps stay on course with my diet as well
working out will help me get to my goal weight faster and also fitter not flabby!0 -
I like medals and achieving goals so running helps me get both. I don't really think about burning cals, I concentrate on when I will feel amazing holding my next medal0

THIS! Some days are much harder for me than others. I have a treadmill, elliptical, and bowflex ultimate but would much rather be outside running or bicycling...but it is 29 and snowing here. It might be a chore for me to get motivated to exercise but I feel soooo much better after I have exercised!
Speaking of which, I need to get off of these forums and get some exercise! lol0 -
for 2 years I did 2 hours of cardio and an hour of strength training every week. i never lost more than a couple of pounds. But I continued to do it because my blood pressure was much improved, I slept well and had more energy and flexibility. my weight loss is solely to do with my diet apparently.0

To loose weight. It's something Im good at too, I never noticed before. It keeps me motivated "sometimes" when I can see the progress, etc improving.I've learned to love it0

I exercise so that I can run longer. The longer I run, the more I want to run. I would love to do a marathon some day, but my body seems to break down at about 15 miles.0

I hated exercise and sweating but @ 9 months after I had my first child I started walking a couple of miles 4 times a week with a friend while pushing a stroller. After @ a month I had a couple of people make comments on how good my legs looked. I know this is silly but it made me think, what will weights do for me if walking has made my legs look better? Joined a gym and have been hooked for 11 years. I have run several 5ks and did my first tri in August. It makes me feel better. I really enjoy pushing myself and seeing how much I can accomplish.0

i exercise because i need the stimulation and goal-setting to keep me mentally balanced.0

Oh lordy. A LOT of reasons, and not all of them are great:
1. To look GOOD, and maintain it
2. Health
3. To prove my HS gym teachers wrong (bad asthma and I couldn't even run a mile...now I can do 3 without stopping)
4. To stop hating myself. Still working on this one. Or, in nicer terms, to put my mind and body back in proper alignment.0 -
To be able to eat more
To increase general fitness
To look good
To feel good (endorphins!)0 -
I exercise for several reasons:
1) Although this wasn't always the case for me, now I use exercise as my 'me' time. It's a really great stress reliever for me now, rather than a chore, like it was before.
2) I love how I feel after I workout! Physically and mentally, I feel relaxed, refreshed, and more centered.
3) I know that the proper combination of weight training and cardio will get me the results I want, so I do it and I do it religiously. I want to see my body transformed. I don't want a smaller, lighter, but flabbier version of my previous body.0 -

ANY reason is a great reason. Trust me on that one0 -
I run because I feel good afterwards & makes me an overall happy person.0

I just love to exercise. It makes me feel good.0

To be completely honest the reason I exercise is so that I can eat more :blushing: However I do walk a lot and the purpose of that is to socialize, nothing better than a long walk with a good friend.0
