100 days is only 14 weeks- yet, you've lost 15 pounds!!! At this rate, you're losing 1 pound a week- which is perfectly healthy and recommended!
Keep doing what you're doing... because you're doing it the right way!
I was just going to say the same thing. 100 days is only 14 weeks 15 lbs lost is perfect. It is healthy sustainable weight loss which is great! You are doing fine don't give up you deserve it. Think about it like this at a pound a week in 52 weeks that is 53 lbs. Wouldn't that be a fabulous weight loss accomplishment?!

I agree-don't give up! You're averaging a pound a week. That is the smartest way to lose! I have taken a year to lose 64 pounds, and I am confident I will keep the weight off, because I did it the best way-slowly. I don't have loose skin or any other problems that can arise when you lose a lot so quickly.

I think you are doing great!

I was feeling like giving up, also. I kinda plateaued at 35 lbs lost, and still had soooooo much to go. I went on and joined a challenge. Just a small one where we lost 10lbs by christmas. I have almost met that goal! Next we are doing a 10lbs down by Valentines day. I'm super excited about it.
It works for me to be able to break up the big weight loss into little 10lb sections at a time.
As far as feeling deprived....well, just don't.
Eat a slice of pizza every now and then. Have a bowl of spaghetti. Just not every day all the time. I don't think I could stay sane without my coffee and half and half in the morning. I have just changed my workouts on the days where I eat the fattening foods to exercise off a few hundred extra calories. It works, and you can reward yourself with some yummy foods you crave.
    Good luck! Don't give up!

Are you lifting weights? As you get older, you need to build muscle because we lose muscle as we age.

Also, I would see a doctor. If you've stuck to this faithfully, you should have lost more than 15 lbs in one year. There could be something metabolically wrong wtih your body.

It takes a couple of years for the cravings to go away; however, I still succumb if someone brings junk into the house.

Don't give up yet. Go and see a doctor that is a specialist wtih hormones (endocrinologist).

Adopting a healthy lifestyle doesn't have to be so unhappy! If you're missing pizza and candy, then go ahead and eat them! Maybe just eat smaller portions to satisfy your cravings, or better yet, get some sugar-free/fat-free candy, or make your very own low-calorie pizza.

Good luck and don't give up!

15 pounds while dealing with a medical issue that can make you gain weight? Ummm ... you're doing better than all of us!

I don't know much about thyroid issues (Grave's Disease?) but I'm surprised that doctors would recommend such a low calorie diet! Surely that can't be a permanent recommendation!

Look I'd suggest putting your thyroid issue first. Once it's under control then worry about losing. If the doctors told you to lose weight to help the issue then I'd find out more about this 1,000 calorie requirement.

I just wanted to tell you my story briefly. Since June 1, 2011 I have lost 65 lbs and my blood sugars have gone from 150-180 down to 60-90 my cholesterol has gone from 230 to 131 and i went from 6-8 cans of coke zero a day down to 2 and sometimes 3. I started at just over 400 lbs and at that time I couldn't walk very far for fear of falling. Now I can walk almost as normal as I did when I was 200 lbs. The point of the matter is this I used to eat like a rabbit when I was trying to lose weight but for the first time in my life I have found out I can eat everything I did before just not as much and a little smaller portions. The one thing I haven't had yet is pizza but I eat everything else like the rolls you say you like eat one with a meal you can't deprive yourself of the things you like just don't eat quite as much as you used to. I've been out for chinese 3 or 4 times since I started this thing......what I do is go to the search box and type in chinese food and then pick out the lowest calorie things i can find and eat them. What I have is 2 bowls of egg drop soup about half of what they say is a serving of black pepper chicken and a chicken teriyaki stick a little lo mein and some fruit the first time i went out and had this i thought i was going to get sick that i overate. This DOES WORK DON'T GIVE UP EAT THE THINGS YOU LIKE AND LIMIT YOURSELF WHEN IT COMES TO THE MEAT TO A PORTION NOT MUCH BIGGER THAN A DECK OF CARDS. I AM NOT ACTIVE EITHER I HAVE LOST THIS WEIGHT WITHOUT EXERCISE. I WENT TO THE DR. LAST WEEK SO SHE COULD READ MY BLOOD WORK SHE SAID THAT MY A1C WAS SO LOW IT LOOKED LIKE I WASN'T EVEN DIABETIC ANYMORE.......

You have Grave's Disease and your doctor wants you to eat 1000 calories a day? That's strange. Your body should be burning through calories more quickly than the rest of us. Hyperthyroidism usually leads to weight loss and an increased metabolism.

Is your medication too high? Or is your Grave Disease so out of control that they'll have to effectively destroy your thyroid? That may cause a severe drop in your metabolism. :(

Anyway, what a terrible thing to go through!

I think you're doing great, however! I also think you should eat pizza now and then, and cookies, and candy, and potato chips. Maybe stop trying to lose weight for now. Just maintain the 15 lbs lost. Or aim for slower weight loss, like 1/2 lb a week. Don't deprive yourself. Eat a little more and lose weight a little slower. You need a diet you can live with.

P.S. I've been on MFP for a year, and I've lost 2 lbs. :) But I consider that a success, because I was gaining weight before that. I've managed to maintain and even lose a tiny bit.

Congrats to you.............15 lbs is fantastic. Yes it is hard. I have been trying since around mid Jan.2011 and I have only lost 16 lbs. I thought that was awful. Im not a healthy eater. I love healthy food but am a terrible cook and live at least 25 miles from any store with a decent amt of healthy food but its expensive. No matter what people say healthy food is expensive. My daughter has done weight watchers and fitness pal and she said she buys healthy stuff as much as she can but her husband gets pretty upset becuz its so expensive. I just try and eat commonsense and exercise and buy salad fixings and keep junk out of my house.
I wish you the best and would love to be your buddy if you want. Hang in there.

I lost 20 pounds in 3 years, I am over the moon

    I earned every pound

I have not regained it, I have made a lifestyle change
Before vacations were about eating, now walk 4 to 5 miles in morning, followed by the same in the afternoon

Dessert, I am a sugar addict, I no longer deprive myself, I have everything in moderation most days, some days my resolve is shaken

I read success stories, knowing mine is just around the corner

It's a journey, you will learn about your body.

We are too harsh on ourselves, if a stranger had accomplished 15 pounds in 3 months you would have been in awe, jealous, envious.

Start journalling, figure out your triggers, what makes you eat, what helps you workout? build a strong support group

I for one am proud of you losing 15 pounds in 3 months and so jealous of you!

    With love

Don't give up! 1 lb a week is great! I have hypothyroidism too and I know how frustrating it can be. Like everyone said - your weight loss averages about 1 lb a week. That is somehting you should be proud of instead of being discouraged by that. I haven't been on here very long but I have struggled for a long time. Hopefully your new Dr. can help you. Feel free to add me if you want:)

Don't give up!! You've come so far already, there is no need to give up!

At the rate you are losing (about 1 pound a week), you are doing FANTASTIC!!!

All of us on here struggle with out weight, but we can't let a few ups and downs on the scale tells us how to feel about our bodies. Keep plugging away, and you are going to make it!!

And please don't deprive yourself!! That makes this journey so much harder!! Keep those most loved foods in your life -- just try to be smarter about the portion sizes! And if you do have a pitfall, just drink a bunch of water, and pick yourself right up again!

I've struggled a lot with my journey, too. But if I had given up (like I always had in the past), then I'd be right back to where I was. I re-started this journey in July, and 5 months later I am halfway to where I ultimately want to be. If I can do it, so can you!!

Feel free to friend me!! And good luck on the rest of your journey!!

I have had hypothyroid disease since I was 19. I think you are right on track! You are doing well. My opinion is you need a reality check. Here is my reality for what it is worth: It took me exactly 110 days lose my first 15 pounds. It was hard. It was slow. I was doing everything right! Did I want to give up? Yes. My recipe for success? STOP BEING A QUITTER! I always quit diets because I got hungry or because "it wasn't working and it was too hard". I'm not an idiot, I am smart. This was not an intelligence issue it was an emotional issue. Look at my profile if you are interested to learn more about me.

Guess what? I started 5 years ago to change my eating habits and to lose weight. FIVE YEARS AGO. I started at 205 pounds. I wore a size 16 and felt so unattractive and unhealthy and out of breath just walking. I was afraid. I didn't have an alternative except to get fatter over the years. I wasn't buying that.

I took some turns and twists on my way here. I found MFP in February to lose the last 35 pounds and today I am 137.8 pounds - just 2.8 away from my goal. I now get to go shopping an by pants in size 4!

I am 54. My gyn said most women gain 10 pounds going through menopause. I never exercised. I lived on white flour and sugar. Do I miss them? Yes! Do I eat them? Very rarely! What do I eat? Mostly veggies and fruits and whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans, little meat, little cheese, little chicken or fish. No salt or sugar. I lived on sugar. Literally. I can change. You can change. Has anyone ever said to you, "Maybe you don't want it enough?" I could have killed the person every time I heard that one! But you know what? They were right. When I decided that I wanted it enough I found the way, I did what made sense to me and I did the hard work. I wasn't happy but my back was against the wall. I had two choices: get fatter or start losing weight. I chose to start losing weight.

My tastes have changed. Did anyone take me by the hand? No. Did anyone else feel sorry for me? No. My husband ate slabs of baby back ribs in my face. He ate ice cream, cookies, cake right in front of me just inches away. Whose battle was this? His? No. It was mine. I am the one who wants to lose weight. I am the one who has to take responsibility for what goes into my mouth. And I did it. I also cried because I felt sorry for myself. But I did it.

What about exercise? I hate exercise. I never exercised a day in my life if I could avoid it. I started walking 30 minutes a day. I was out of breath. I hated it. I felt sorry for myself. Tough. Months later I started a video exercise program at home with 2 pound dumbbells. I hated it. But I did it. I worked up to 8 pound dumbbells. Still want it over with. I even got an active dog so I could feel less sorry for myself when I walk him. He loves to walk so he gives me joy now instead of dread when we walk. Now we walk 2 times a day, or we swap one walk for a bike ride and he runs along with me.

I can live effortlessly without sugar and salt and other stuff. Something takes over my mind. I enjoy life now. I feel pretty. I feel like a girl again. I feel like an attractive woman for once in my life. It is so worth it. In every single way. If I didn't start this journey 5 years ago, there would be no telling how fat or what disease process I would be harboring in my body today. I love life. I feel good. I feel joy. I have energy. Still hate to sweat and avoid it when possible. I can easily say "no thank you to pizza". I gained 2.4 pounds by going to a holiday party last sunday and dinner out with friends on Tuesday night. But constant vigilance with food afterwards means I lost all but 0.2 of the weight just in time for 2 more parties today. I no longer fear dressing up, buying jeans, or anything. Yes, life is grand! I still have no time to do all the housework, yardwork, and laundry that I'd like to accomplish, but at least I also don't have to struggle lugging an extra 68.2 pounds around on top of it either.

Keep up the good work. In a year's time you'll be so much better off. Even if you take 5 years to figure it out, like me. 5 years passed whether I was working on my weight and health or not!

    Best of luck to you!

Obviously you really don't want to give up, otherwise you wouldn't be on here announcing it. Girl, I fell off the 'diet' wagon over the Spring/Summer break to the tune of a 30 lb weight gain! I REGRET IT SO MUCH!!! It would have been EASIER to not regain the weight, than what I have to go through now. Trust me, you will regret it.

In life, everything WORTH having, you really have to work hard to get it.

You SO did the right thing coming on here first. Now come on!
