  • It is working for me as well. I started out excerising pretty regular but fell out of it and am still losing. Just the major change in eatting is working for me so far and I am loving it!!

Glad you are finding success as well!!!!
  • I am, as of now lol I am going to start exercising when I can.....Everyone in my house sleeps diff hours than I do, I don't want to wake them.

So glad it's working for you! :flowerforyou:
  • I've been ill for the past 3 - 4 weeks so I haven't been doing much exercise and I've still been losing because I am staying under my calorie goal. However, as soon as I am better I'll be exercising again as it helps to tighten everything so you don't have sagging skin after your weight loss. Plus it makes you a fitter person

I am too...but I need to start exercising anyway because it has been slow moving and I don't want weird saggy skin if I can help prevent it!

But good luck to everyone :)

Right now I am, but my exercise is limited to walking (I don't even think I can jog right now) Because I am still recovering from a surgery. If you are sticking to your calorie goal (or are under it), MFP already puts you at a deficit, so you will continue to lose some weight without exercising.

I've lost 3 lbs since I started back about 14 days ago without exercise. I mean I have logged my shopping (exercise) & cleaning (exercise) but I haven't been "working out" or doing anything different other than day to day normal routine. I just started logging EVERY thing I eat no matter how bad it was and it's made me take note of what I'm doing and made me subconciously cut back and so slowly but surely I have lost a few pounds. Like you I know it won't continue so I plan to start my exercise and start actually DIETING in January after I get past these holidays! Meanwhile I'm just trying to be more AWARE of what I'm eating and how MUCH I'm eating! And of course trying to get in the habit of LOGGING!!!

i am!! I started at 58 kg (127lbs) and 173 cm (5 feet 8). I'm losing slowly and i'm not in a hurry, because i already look 'skinny'. I call my diet a lifestyle now, i'm enjoying both feeling healthy when i eat well and the days off.
My weight loss depends on what i eat, how late my dinner is, what time of the month it is... But now i'm at 110lbs and my goal is 105.
I've never exercised even though everybody here's hating on me because of that haha :)
But the important thing is, when i have a day (a weekend, or a week off) i DON'T gain it back, i guess because i lost it slowly!

I am not normally sedentary, work on feet all day, but I have consisitenly lost weight without adding "exercise". I watch what I eat, log everything. Some days are wonderful and others suck, but it makes me aware! I need to start exercising to tone up, but can lose without it. It does take honesty with yourself and your diary though. Good luck!

I do sorta feel bad for not exercising, I mean i should be getting fit and i know i should do it..

I'm not too worried about sagging skin just because i haven't actually got too much to lose.. i know i should do it though.. i started 30DS a while ago but shortly gave that up. the calorie watching is easy, the exercise is a different story!

I lost my first 7 kgs without working out. I did go for latin dance 3-4 per week though. I was dancing in latin bars (so let's day 6-7 dances is app. 45 minutes each time).

You don't have to exercise to lose weight. All you need is a calorie deficit. If you're burning off more calories than you're taking in, you'll lose weight regardless of whether you're exercising or not. Your body burns calories whether you're sitting on the couch watching tv or walking your dog or running a 5k. MFP recommends you eat back all your exercise calories anyway, so in the end, aside from the benefits to your cardiovascular system, it's like you're not exercising in the first place. At least as far as calorie burn is concerned. That is, if you're actually doing like MFP recommends and eating back the calories.

I love exercising, but I've lost a few pounds not doing anything at all. food is just that crucial

Losing without exercise is, in my opinion, easier than losing with exercise. It's easier for me to live off of the meager calories in a diet if I'm not pushing myself in the gym. That being said, losing weight with exercise in the long run will net you better results. A lot of folks say diet is 85% food 15% exercise, and I find that to be true. I can burn around 1000 calories in an hour on the treadmill if I put my mind to it, and I can eat 2000 calories inside of 20 minutes at Five Guys if I put my mind to it.

I just don't enjoy any sort of exercise.. I'd love to get the buzz that some people get when they do it but I don't and I find it hard to stick to it!

I don't understand really, I mean last week i increased my calories to see if it helped (with no exercise) so I felt as though I was going to gain if anything.. got on the scales yesterday after eating 1400 instead of 1200 for a week and I'd lost 3lbs!!

    It makes no sense!!

Wish I could be so lucky, nope doesn't matter how well I eat, if there is no sweat there is no loss. Wasn't always this way, and I hope that as I get more in shape, my metabolism will change if not to what it used to be, something more than the sedentary couch tater one I gave myself!

Think of it like this... if you have a flashlight with low batteries, the light is dim and doesn't operate to it's fullest abilities. Same with your body. When it's fueled properly, it works most efficiently. Your body has to work to burn calories. In order to work most efficient, it needs enough fuel. When you overfill is when you have problems.

If you are losing without exercise then you are losing weight, not fat. See the difference? :-)

I lost my first 20lbs that way. But I wanted to exercise.
  • I lost the first pounds without exercise but added some exercise in to tone the body. Want to lose fat not just weight :)

I don't mean to sound mean but 105 at 5'8 is way below a healthy BMI. Going too low causes the body harm. But I'm glad you are feeling healthy and eating well :)

^^^ This. When I had a eating disorder as a teenager I was 115 lbs at 5'8" and that was way too low for me and was below a healthy BMI. I now weigh 143 and my goal weight is 145. Much healthier for me and I feel better at this weight than I did at 115 when I was 16. While I understand that different people are built differently, a 5'8" person is not meant to be that small. Glad you are eating better than I did when I real small or are even eating at all. I didn't eat much at all back then.

I lost the my first 30 lbs without exercising and just counting calories. But once I hit a plateau, I joined a gym that is open 24 hrs. Last week was my first week exercising and I can tell it is helping. I am hopeful it will get my over this plateau.

I have been, but only because I haven't been able to exercise consitently b/c of some health issues. I lost more when I was exercising, but am also down to my last 15 pounds so I know that has some effect on how much I lose per week right now. That said, it is not recommended to be on a calorie deficit for very long without any exercise, as you will actually lose muscle mass in addition to losing fat which can actually lead you to look sorta flabby. Good luck! I am going to be back at it as soon as I am healthy again...should be able to start this week!

Yes you can lose b/c it's all about food intake and what you eat. You are 19yrs old . . . when I was 19 I can live off pizza and sleep all day and still lose weight or maintain. Everyone's body is different and changes with age, when you turn 30 and or have kids that's a different story. Exercising strengthens your cardiovascular system, gives you muscle tone, and exerts energy/endurance.

Have only been on this journey on MFP for 8 wks. I am virtually a couch potato now that I have retired--moving from the recliner to the bed and v/s. I have gained about 50 lbs in the last year with this routine. ugh!! I started out walking_( my exercise routine is very limited due to progressive back injury) and I soon was feeling so much better--my back pain was better and my energy level was so much better(no midday naps) and my breathing was improving. Now?? I am once again not exercising. any excuse will do. I am still losing about a pound a week without exercising. But, the difference in the way I feel --Blah when I don't and less stressed more energy when I do is the reason I need to do some form of exercise. Weight loss is weight loss--it is mostly water loss for everybody in the beginning--but then you start to burn either muscle or fat after that. I don't want to lose what muscle tone I have left. So, I will strive to do some kind of exercise.

I was also very concerned with anyone who was 5'8" weighing only in their 120's and now in the 115 range and striving for 105. Perhaps you need to rethink what a healthy weight for you would be.HUG

Diet is the biggest part of weight loss. You can exercise all you want and not lose weight if you're eating too much. So of course it's possible to lose without exercise.

I will say though that if you're not doing some strength training, even if it's just light, you may find that you reach your goal weight and still have some flab to lose. That's where I am right now. I was unable to do much exercising for the past few months and now I'm nearly to my goal weight, but I'm not happy with how I look and feel. I know that losing more weight won't get me what I want -- I have to exercise and get some muscle if I want to burn the fat.

The moral of the story is that if you don't want to work out right now, that's fine. But if you happen to get to your goal and find that you're still flabby in places that you don't want to be flabby, don't lower your goal weight. Just work out.

Strict calorie deficit and sedentary lifestyle brought me from 285-250. I stopped HARD at 250 and couldn't lose another ounce. I'm down in the high 230s now that I've added exercise. (I'm on my last 20lbs to lose.)

    The other thing is -
During the first phase I had no energy, sore joints, always felt like CRAP.

Feel MUCH better all around now!

I've had a lot on the last couple of months and haven't been able to make it to the gym.
The most exercise I get is the walk to and from school to pick my youngest up, which is half an hour.
Add to that the walk to the supermarket (1 mile) and around it (while shopping) twice a week, plus a trip to town once a week.
It's not what I'd call real exercise but the day-to-day stuff really does add up.

I' losing, on average, under a pound a week. At least it's going in the right direction and is more likely to stay off as I'm losing it slowly

Somewhat- I dont exercise as much as I want to- I'm at once or twice a week- I am losing- but I know it would come off faster and I would feel better if I was exercising more.
